If Hobbs is doing his job, he is feverishly working right now to identify replacement head coaching candidates, what money he can put together to get them, and the particulars of his approach to each of those coaches to get them. Part of that should be his timetable and particulars on facilities. If, instead, he is still mulling over whether to fire EJ and what options he has to avoid firing him, we are in trouble.
RU's problem hasn't been firing too many coaches. It has been hiring coaches who can't succeed. The only way to stop this merry-go-round that has decimated the basketball team for over two decades is to make a proper hire. That takes work, thoughtfulness and preparedness. That's where Hobbs' attention needs to be right now. He has a big, long, fat window of time to get ready to conduct an organized and thoughtful hiring process. He better be using that opportunity to its fullest extent.
If he isn't, then yes, we will probably be doing this again in 3-4 years. But it won't be because we fire too many coaches. It will be because we're still no good at hiring the right ones.
