Why is the student section 30 feet behind the baseline?

when I was a student it was right on the baseline and insane. When billet came back from Virginia you could almost touch the players (like at duke).

Every year it keeps moving back a little bit. What gives?

They started pushing it back 5-6 years ago after we beat Nova and the students stormed the court.

Hobbs recently said he wants to bring the students closer. No reason to have a 30 foot gap between the basket and the students.

Yea I hate that. Bring it close to have them on the TV and create a better atmosphere.

If the reason is to just have the cheerleaders in that gap, then the reasoning is stupid. Bring the fans closer to the court. Also have the pep band play more...this is a college arena, not an NBA arena

I think they did it for safety and to avoid court storming which was dumb.

Back when the RAC was the RAC, opposing players and coaches would always say it was one of the toughest venues. Besides the noise level, they all commented that it felt like the students were on top of them. It seemed to change the outcome of a number of memorable games. Only RU can screw that up. Hope Hobbs carries through. I bet he will. The guy gets it. BTW he really pumped up the crowd today.
