Just checked the Sparks roster out. They still have 19 on roster, and 11 guards to boot. Not going to be easy, SIGH.

As I posted elsewhere, there are not a lot of roster spots open. Part of the issue is that players who sat out last year are back. I suppose some foreign players will not be here because of the Olympics.

I don't follow that closely, but folks who do and post on the UConn board suggested that there are only 10 "obviously open" spots in the league. Part of the issue is the new contract that gives the players a better deal also additionally limited rosters. I don't know the details on that, either.

That said, you have injuries and also veterans who are unexpectedly flat to affect that.

As Knight Time Fan said, the WNBA is the hardest league in the nation to make a roster. There are just 144 spots--which is why there's been public calls for expansion recently.

No matter which team Arella was drafted to, she would have had to fight for her place. But I have faith in her.

Premier Lacrosse League is also VERY hard to make a team. Only eight teams with about 27-28 per team.

And, unfortunately, as I just read (not on a message board) not all teams are going to carry 12 players, due to salary caps and carrying certain players.

Let me just say this...if Arella can't prove she's better than Stephanie Watts (who was drafted in the first round despite having nothing on her resume to signify a first round selection) in training camp, she doesn't deserve to make the team. The good thing is, everyone knows who she is. Now she the opportunity to prove she belongs.

I still think the whole saga is very, very fishy. Hopefully she impresses Magic.

I think Arella will make the roster and prove to be a good choice.
This thread proves that when it comes to RU players: we wish them the best, but fear for the worst [roll]

WNBA has to find a way to add more teams. Maybe if they started with the biggest markets(NY and LA) they could play out of the same arena.?? Maybe they could experiment with doubleheader formats.??

With the success of the women's NCAA tourney, more players have become nationally recogizable. It is becoming more and more frustrating to not be able to see so many of our favorite players, really good ones, who get forced to play solely overseas.

Sparks are inviting the below 15 players to camp (Valdeeva is not joining team until after Olympic break)--meaning Arella has to beat out three of these players to make the team.

If I had to guess, I think final 3 spots come down to these 5 players:

Kristine Anigwe
Nia Coffey
Arella
Bria Holmes
Stephanie Watts

I like your list of 5 but would substitute Wiese in place of Anigwe. Anigwe and Zahui B are there only sizable posts.

I think they would keep Coffey, due to her length after losing Candace Parker. I'm in no way saying she replaces Parker. lol

I think Holmes and Wiese's spots are there for the taking. Holmes is not a knock down shooter and Wiese(from looking at her stat line) seems to be somewhat one dimensional as a 3 pt specialist.

Fisher may feel like Watts is a better 3pt shooter than Arella based on a couple of games in the ACC tourney when she was lights out, hitting something like 7 or 8 threes.

If Arella plays her game, she can beat out Watts, Wiese, and Holmes. She has to be sure to avoid trying to do too much, because we know that when she is pressing, it doesn't go so well. I'm confident that Arella will make the team provided there are no trades.
