Will Christie sign the Rutgers Practice facility Bill ,by Tuesday?

1. Does it help him?
2. Can he lie about it to help him get elected?

Therein lies your answer.

most critical question - beyond all doubt -
What does he believe that that Republican primary voters in Iowa & New Hampshire will think about this bill.

he better sign it by mid day tuesday or it dies..along with chance of getting a decent new basketball coach

This is probably a dumb question ( I promise it won't be my last), but does he have to be in New Jersey to sign bills or can they be done by fax ?

The Lieutenant Governor, Kim Gualgo (sp?) can sign bills in his absence. And there is no such thing as a dumb question, as I try to tell my students.

Thanks, CamdenLaw. I hope the new AD and football staff start making a VERY strong effort at bringing ALL Rutgers students and alumni into the fold, regardless of which campus they attend. Doesn't make any sense to ignore about 40% of Rutgers students and alumni and not reach out more involving ticket sales, events, marketing, etc.

I don't *think* Newark and Camden combined are 40%, but thanks nonetheless. Rutgers-Camden produced a good turnout (including me) for the Temple game a couple of years ago, so there really is interest. Unfortunately, it takes about 70 minutes to get from, say, the Cherry Hill area to the stadium, and that holds down attendance from South Jersey when the Scarlet Knights are at home, particularly when games start at noon, as they seem to do so often.

Noon games are the WORST !!! Only people who live in Dunellen or North Brunswick can get to get to games on time. It is even worse for families with little Johnny/Mallory playing football, cheerleading, lacrosse, soccer, karate, etc every Saturday morning. ---That being said, I would not want to avoid playing Noon games by having a schedule of Tulane,Temple,UConn,SMU,etc. LOL

Camden and Newark make up about 1/3rd, or 33%, of ALL students (19k out of 60k, total, 3 campuses, undergrad and grad). They have their own budgets for athletics and students and alumni are more than welcome to get tickets. I have NO issue with either campus's students receiving FREE tickets FOLLOWING the student lottery, at NB, if there are tickets unclaimed, however, they should not be offered them - free - prior to NB students.

AYR,
I know Camden and Newark have athletic programs since I graduated from the Newark campus. As I have said before,I think it is a complete waste of money having sports at Newark (since the campus is so close). I would like to see the money go to transportation to football and basketball games in Piscataway. The Camden campus of the university is a little different due to geography. Even so,since Rutgers Football needs all the backing we can find,we need to find ways to get the alumni/students/staff at Camden and Newark more involved with the football program. To write off such a large portion of the university doesn't make any sense. I would also like to see the athletic department reach out to the community colleges (since a decent portion of these students end up going to Rutgers and even if they don't,could become Rutgers fans down the road). Just my two cents, others may disagree.

Way more than 2 cents-a very good idea.

Nobody is "writing them off" buddy, but we already have huge budget issues, as I'm sure you're well aware. Maybe down the road we can start to put some programs together but they ARE separate athletic programs, with separate budgets, bottom line. Nobody is stopping them from running student bus trips - as they have in the recent past - to the games.

Can anybody confirm /clarify -
Is this a bill that must be signed to take effect - and not signing is then a pocket veto
or
Is this a bill that would become law unless it was formally "vetoed" ?

Not signing would be a pocket veto.

yes, I understand what a pocket veto is -
my question is about the particulars for this bill
- - I am assuming that If Christie does not sign - it dies - it is 'pocket vetoed'
but - there are instances where no action can result in the bill becoming law (this 'accidentally' happened in Maine recently ) & just wondered if there was a chance that this applied here.

It depends on how you view the relationship between Rutgers NB and Rutgers Newark and Camden.

I'd agree with your suggestion if Newark were just a satellite campus that is part of Rutgers NB (essentially the same as Rutgers NB having a College Ave campus, Busch campus, and Newark campus).

But I don't think that is the intent of Rutgers Newark and Camden. They are separate undergraduate schools within the university system. They have their own faculty, admissions standards, curriculum, and graduation requirements. Like the multiple schools in the University of North Carolina system (where the campuses in Chapel Hill and Raleigh are less than 30 miles apart), they have their own athletic departments.

I think he'll sign this one. I seriously doubt he's going to screw over one of his former employees. All Hobb's has to do is give the Gov. a call and ask if he forgot to sign it. There really is no backlash from this for him, as it's just tax credits and they probably won't be used until after he's gone.

During a legislative session, a bill passed by both houses becomes law if the Governor does not act within 45 days. But, as with the U.S. Constitution, the situation is different when the legislature adjourns. In that case, the proposed law is vetoed if the Governor does not sign it.

You think its a waste of money to provide Newark students with the chance to actually play on the sports teams at their own university, and instead should just be a source of fan cash for the NB campus. The campuses certainly arent close enough that one could go to school in Newark and participate in intercollegiate athletics in NB.

PER bill 2880
agreement with the State by up to 10 percent of the total project 1 cost if the project is:

(a) located in a distressed municipality which lacks adequate 3 access to nutritious food in the judgment of the Chief Executive 4 Officer of the authority and will include either a supermarket or 5 grocery store with a minimum of 15,000 square feet of selling space 6 devoted to the sale of consumable products or a prepared food 7 establishment selling only nutritious ready to serve meals;

So I hope this means no papa johns as they use plastic (synthetic) cheese with no nutritional value on their pie :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
