I have posted about what a great job Hobbs is doing but I am really not sure what he is doing with mens soccer which we have discussed on another thread but how he has kept this coach is beyond me. Had a little free time today of course but l looked back at our conference record dating back to 2006 and we have only 1 winning season in all that time!!! How does this coach still have a job is beyond me. I am not sure why he is neglecting certain sports and cannot find the small amount of money comparatively to football and basketball necessary to hire a qualified coach that can bring this program to where it should be. New Jersey is easily one of the top states in the country as far as talent for women's lacrosse and with the proper coach this program could be a top program with in a few years

Step away from the computer. It has been discussed numerous times that we can’t invest in every single program. I’m sure he would like to replace the soccer coach, but if he doesn’t have the resources to go out and find someone better than it’s going to be an endless cycle. Give it time. If men’s soccer is our biggest complaint, then it’s safe to say Hobbs knows what he’s doing

Are you speaking of the soccer or lacrosse coach?

Hey you should write a letter to the editor at the The Star Liar, bashing Hobbs, kinda like you did when Julie was the athletic directo lol...

Anyway get a grip, the team is 4-2 right now, and pay attention to what has been said AD NAUSEUM regarding HOW Hobbs is handling the Olympic Sports (see: triage-style). Regardless:

2015 2-16
2016 6-12
2017 8-8 (RPI 33rd of 112)
2018 4-2

....notice the trend since we’ve joined the B1G??? Unreal SMDH!!

I notice the trend; as I said in my original post I love Hobbs but to give this coach another contract is ludicrous; Notice the in conference trend and notice how noncompetitive we were against Penn. this coach is not good and this team is going nowhere where it has been for so long. I know her contract was renewed under Hobbs and as for how long I don't know but come on with that performance it should have never been renewed!!

Hobbs is an intelligent deliberate guy. He has a ton on his plate. He isn’t making a change just to make another hire where he can’t dedicate time or sufficient resources. It’s a sound strategy.

Like every sport, they will sink or swim and he will get to them as time and resources permit.

If you "notice the trend" then you would see that this program is clearly trending UP, not down, but apparently you're blind and I feel bad for your patients!!! (sorry, couldn't resist...) :grimace:

Anyway Penn is currently #11 in the nation. Last year we lost to Delaware - DELAWARE - 17-5. This year?? We beat them 14-10. Shit ****ing happens BUT at least we got crushed by #11. Forget about what happened with this program PRE-HOBBS because it doesn't mean dick right now Rich. Look at what HAS happened since joining the B1G and, since apparently you missed it above, I'll post for you again:

RU Joins B1G:

2015 2-16
2016 6-12
2017 8-8 (RPI 33rd of 112)
2018 4-2

..the program is getting BETTER what is so hard to figure out here? BTW - we still have a VERY difficult schedule going forward with:

#3 JMU
#20 PSU
#5 Maryland
#12 NW

(Cornell and Hopkins both "getting votes)

...remaining in our last 10, so lots left to see, lots left to prove, but room to make some great strides...or not...we shall see.

** fyi - when we joined the B1G I was 100% with you in terms of a coaching change in women's lax BUT things have, without question, improved! [thumb2]

Another point to be made, and I have no insight into women's lacrosse, but sports at this level are very tied to support levels. Coach Brecht is an anomaly. He was winning and beating teams with much more support. That isn't sustainable, and Hobbs recognized that and changed it.

It's hard to hold a coach accountable when they are competing with one hand behind their back. Raising the support level comes before coaching. Only then can you compare apples to apples.

Come on ladies ... match last year, or improve the record ... keep the trend going up!!!!!!

How did you expect that we are getting better and beat them last year!!

Dude JMU is #3 n the nation and, AGAIN, you have to look at the overall trend, the overall season, not one match for one game. Why is this so hard to understand? Shit happens like us beating last year’s 13th ranked program!! Do you not follow college sports in general just RU and then pick-and-choose your battles?

Year-over-year, since we join the B10, this program has gotten better. Period. One more time:

RU Joins B1G:

2015 2-16
2016 6-12
2017 8-8 (RPI 33rd of 112)
2018 4-3 (losses to #’s 3 and 11)

You are arguing about our women’s lacrosse coach.

Step away from the keyboard, and go outside for a walk.

In his defense, that doesn't matter. Well rounded, high achieving athletic departments care about all sports, and support them. There is a reason why UCLA and USC have hundreds of national championships between them. It's because they actually care, a lot, about sports like "women's lacrosse".

We will never be as good as we can until such time as all sports we field are fully funded and supported at peer levels. Or better.

RU needs to get its financial house in order (which it is, but it’s not yet ‘there’) first, I think, before we can fire somebody and then hire an upgraded replacement. Otherwise, you fire one coach and replace them with the person willing to take a job purely on the promise that in two years they’ll have the money. Good candidates won’t want that deal. They’ll go to the place that will give them budget now AND in two years.

I agree with the financial house in order but when we can find millions for football and basketball don't tell me that he can't find the extra $100,000-200,000 necessary for womens lacrosse or even soccer to hire top notch coaches. There is no excuse

Money is an excuse, we have much less than most BIG schools and investing $200K in women's lacrosse vs., lets say getting a guy like Noah Joseph - I get it. In a year or so we have more money for stuff like this.

You simply don't get it, at all, it's NOT just about money it's about building the ENTIRE athletic program the right way - but with an emphasis on winning - and there's simply no way in hell you can turn every sport around at once. Impossible. Gotta take care of a few at a time, as we've ALL been trying to tell you, but you just don't want to listen.

“…but when we can find millions for football and basketball don't tell me that he can't find the extra $100,000-200,000…”

There may be no excuse, but there are ‘reasons’.

See, here’s the thing. Rutgers has had to scrape and claw to ‘find’ the millions (which is more like ‘million’ in our case’. In order to ‘find’ that money, we have had to pass on that ‘extra $100,000 - $200,000’ for the time being. This is just simple math. If we need exactly $1,000,000 for the football or basketball needs, that ‘extra $200,000’ can jeopardize our wiggle room. It’s a sad reality for the time being. There really isn’t ‘extra’ money floating around at RU.

It’s a matter of priorities. Does paying the women’s lax coach an extra $100k-$200k at the expense of being able to properly fund your revenue generator make sense to you? If it does, rock on. If it doesn’t sit tight until we get the B1G money into the income stream.
