I'm sure after this year the Covid seniors will be mostly all out of eligibility.

This may have been covered before but I don't recall. When the kids choose to redshirt or extend their collegiate wrestling career due to injury or situations like Covid, how does that impact their scholarship money? I would think the cost of additional years at university is an expensive way of extending their wrestling, unless they intended on pursuing graduate degrees anyway or have full rides that are also extended. When asking a kid to redshirt, are they also asking him to increase his college debt?

Yeah. Covid year. Olympic year. Red shirt year. Kids with a medical year could have an 8th year.

NCAA botched the whole covid thing. It was done with good intentions but the wrong people got the free year. The 2020-21 season shouldn’t have been a free year. The kids who wrestled in 2019-20 and lost their tournament should have gotten the free year. Instead, guys like Starocci and Brooks who weren’t even effected by covid cancelling their seasons are able to become potential 5x champs.

Someone like Jordan Pagano who was wrestling great into the tournament that was ultimately cancelled got nothing. Matt Kolodzik who pulled his Olympic redshirt and got like 4 matches got nothing.

Not true. Brooks did lose his opportunity in 2020. He could only be a 4 timer which is fair since he was favored in 2020 and didn’t get to compete

Agree. The guys that got screwed were the seniors that year. Hall/Cenzo could have been 3 timers. As you said, Kolodzik, Pagano got screwed as well.

Agree. The guys that got screwed were the seniors that year. Hall/Cenzo could have been 3 timers. As you said, Kolodzik, Pagano got screwed as well.

Apologies, it wasn’t Brooks. It was Starocci and Ferrari who both won as freshmen. Ferrari has since blown the opportunity.
