Robinson wrestles for Blair Academy (Blairstown, Warren County NJ)

Robinson, a rising junior at Blair Academy. This makes him a 2018

The VAWA freestyler matched the medals won by the Greco team in Fargo, led by Junior runner-up John Borst (Sherando) at 195 lbs. and Malcom Robinson (Blair Academy), who placed third at Cadet 126 lbs. closing out a successful week at the USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior Nationals. A total of 14 Virginia wrestlers placed in the top eight of their weight class, earning All-American status. And for the second year in a row, the Virginia team won the coveted Spirit Award, showcased by their loud cheering for all three of the finalists from the Commonwealth.

Robinson, a rising junior at Blair Academy, got things started for VAWA in freestyle, coming back from a contentious fourth round loss to eventual runner-up Jaden Abas (California). But the future Buccaneer grappler won six consecutive matches to earn the bronze medal at 126. He defeated 2016 National Preps champion (and teammate) Chris Cannon of New Jersey 5-2 in the third place match.

Is Robinson ranked nationally in any of the polls?
He wasn't at the end of last year. I would expect him to be this year when the graduating seniors are taken out. This coming year will be his first at Blair, kid has a lot of potential and now getting to workout in Blairs room everyday will only help him reach that potential.

In Flowrestling's most recent rankings dated 6/27/16, he is ranked 20th at 126 pounds (There are 10 Seniors ranked above him). In the third place consolation match (Cadet Division-mostly rising Sophs and Juniors) at Fargo in late July, he beat his future Blair teammate Chris Cannon who was ranked 12th at 113 pounds in last season's Intermatwrestle.com post season rankings (which included 3 graduating seniors ranked above him). It will be interesting to see which divisions both Cannon and Robinson wrestle in this season, but presumably Cannon goes down to 120. Robinson is probably ranked too low now and as Obrats stated, he will be ever improving in that workout room.

Here is the link to Flowrestling's 126 pound rankings (Robinson is mistakenly labeled as a rising Sophomore-not Junior):

Long time reader, season ticket holder and first post...

Robinson looks like a 141 pounder in 2/3 year? Just curious, much has been written about the team not being fully funded for out of state purposes, would Malcolm count vs instate or out of state?i assume its way too early to know.

The pickup is huge for potential inroads into blair!

While this is great, i really want the winner of Malcolm's fargo bracket! We need Raimo. He would replace Ash as the face of the program.

Since Robinson has enrolled at Blair he might have in state residence by the time he gets to Rutgers .

100% agree about Raimo.

If the coaching staff can convince Raimo and Grffin to come to the banks , RU will be cautiously penciled in as top 15 for those 4/5 years (replacing ash and perrotti as perennially AA's) and if Grello / Correnti and Mulligan can score some points at nationals, ru is looking like a top 10 squad.

What is concerning to me is that RU still doesnt make any top ten list for top talent in the lehigh valley. I am sure the staff is working their tail off, we need a break through of any kind on the other side of the delaware. open the floodgates!

Unless, his parents re-located to Blairstown NJ, he would not be considered a NJ resident.

Can someone with more knowledge on college commitments help me on this.
Can a student actually commit to a college prior to his Junior year? If so at what point does the student actually become committed to the point they can't pull out of it?
I don't know if I want to count too much on a commitment when the kid has lots of time to change his mind. It seems like we have had this happen before. Does anyone have the same concerns?

RU is at a huge disadvantage recruiting Pa wrestlers vs Penn ST, Lehigh, Edinboro, Lock Haven etc etc etc, due to RU not being fully funded for Out of Sate tuition/room/board. When giving out partial schollies for out of state wrestlers , the in state rate RU can only offer doesn't go very far.

We look at Malcolm as the replacement for AA
I'm sure the coaches have the highest expectations for all their recruits. What I hope you meant by this statement is that the coaches expect that Malcolm will be competing for a spot at the vacant 141 pound weight class after Ashnault's departure. I feel like any other interpretation of your statement about replacing AA would put ridiculously high expectations on a kid who hasn't even competed in his Junior year of high school yet. There are some seriously talented kids on the current roster and the roster in 3 years will probably even be more competitive. I'm sure Mike Van Brill, Paetzel, and others will have some of their own plans to compete hard for the vacant 141 pound spot in 2019.

Abro, your first sentence is correct, your second is not. There is a whole string about being fully funded somewhere on this board(lol, have not had my 2nd cup of coffee or I would search and link). RU can give a full out of state scholly or a full out of state 1/2 a scholly, however it takes more money out of the "pool" of money they have to offer.

There's nothing wrong about his second sentence. He's saying getting the equivalent of a full in-state scholarship means the out of state kid still has to pay a ton of money to attend. So it's a disadvantage.

That is incorrect. Myself and another poster explained how the process works a few months back. Here is the easiest explanation. Lets use 10 schollys instead of 9.9. And lets say RU costs 10k for instate and 20k for out of state. RU since they are not fully funded has 100k for schollys(this is RU' choice). They could give out 10 full instate schollys. IF they want to offer an out of state wrestler a full scholly, they CAN, however it takes 20k out of their budget. The dollars are equalized to come up with the 9.9 schollys.

.

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant is that Malcolm would compete to replace AA at the vacant 141 spot not that he would be an instant AA.
