Any hope for improvement next year? It doesn’t seem like we have any blue chips redshirting and Suriano isn’t coming back. Looks like we need some impact transfers to be competitive again. This season has just sucked.

5 freshmen, our expected 157/165 got suspended to start the year, our 174 is hurt and our heavyweight wrestled one dual. Everyone knew this was going to be a tough season. No reason to start questioning the future now.

I knew it would be a down year, but this has been bad. Do we have a heavyweight for next year? Or are we just hoping Hamilton in a couple years? Hopefully he doesn’t decide to play football instead of wrestling.

RU fans were spoiled last year with 2 NC's.

Poz has the talent to start as a freshman (but i hope he red shirts).
O'Neil doesn't beat our 174/184 wrestlers and needs a red shirt.

We should have 1 AA contender (Alvarez) and 2 or 3 wrestlers (Aguilar/Janzer) who could challenge for AA/Blood Round next year. Unfortunately, about where the team was 2 years ago. Those missed years in recruiting really hurt our depth this season.

That's all true but I didn't expect this team to be this soft and unprepared to wrestle recently. I don't know what's changed, but something isn't working anymore. We have multiple guys that can't seemingly wrestle for a full 7 mins. That can't happen. We've lost more matches in the last 20 seconds of a match than I can ever remember. That's mental /physical weakness and being outworked by your opponent. That's unacceptable.

Typical overreaction from our “fans”. We are up and down as expected from a young team. Undersized Aguilar got in several times but got out horsed from a solid full sized 125lber. That won’t happen next year. Sammy found a way to win at the end of the match. He will improve and dominate these matches next year. At 141 our back up, up a weight, faded. 149, one of our freshman gunslingers got beat trying a big move by one of their best wrestlers. Good, tactically sound match by MVB against a very talented kid. 165 was fine. Great job by our back up at 174 getting points LATE for the major. Awesome win Janzer LATE. Gutty win at 197 by Pagano who showed a ton of heart. Just like Purdue, it was an exciting dual. A lot to look forward to next year. Lots of guys coming out of redshirt, Vulakh, Kanniard, Turley. New blood coming in with Poz, O’Neill and hopefully Shawver. Would love to get a high level transfer or two but this season has been fun and frustrating and entertaining as expected.

We don't always need to make excuses and it's okay to not be positive 100% of the time. Nothing anyone said here is outlandish or any different from what Goodale said last week. He called out multiple people for not being properly conditioned/finishing matches and even said the way they practice/their approach needs to change. I guess he isn't a real "fan" by your standards which is ridiculous.

Michigan has 4 guys (133, 141, 165, and 174) on ORS or else that match isn't even close so they are wrestling their backups as well.

Yes, there were a ton of positive take-a-ways from this match but let's not pretend everything is all well and good 100% of the time.

I agree. And, I am not always 100% positive but my issue is that we rarely put things into context properly. At Purdue, Correnti had to win that match, no question. JoJo, too, but not the same thing. Look at #5 overall PFP recruit Jordan Decatur of OSU getting worked over right now. It will happen to freshmen. Just because Sammy is figuring it out faster doesn’t mean JoJo won’t. The young guys need tough, honest assessments of their performances and paths to progress which I assume they are getting. Let the coaches do that. They also need mostly positive encouragement from the fan base rather than in the moment emotion based criticism. Like I said before Aguilar was in deep several times. He is small for the weight and couldn’t finish. Not a S&C issue but rather a physical maturity and genetics issue. Sammy still needs to grow into his body and improve on his feet but no S&C issue there. At 141, we have a back up 133lber, who missed the entire year last year due to injury, wrestling 141. He looked solid until the somewhat sketchy 2 and 2 call and then faded. That doesn’t make me question our skill level or S&C. We weren’t weaker physically at 149. We were less good at wrestling/less smart tactically, at least for today. The Michigan kid he wrestled is very good. No complaints at 157. Good gas tank. The better wrestler found a way to win. No strength and conditioning issues from 165 on today from what I saw. Do we have a ton of room for improvement? Absolutely. I hope Turley is figuring things out because I would love to watch him in an RU singlet for the next several years, maybe at 174. I can’t wait for Janzer to develop a few more attacks from neutral. He will be a terror. If he moves to 197 next year and we develop Poz, those weights are looking solid for several years. I feel for Correnti because he is a true tweener. HWT is an issue, like it is for many teams, especially OK State who just pulled two football players onto their squad due to a lack of production there. Their current HWT is several matches under 500. Could we recruit better? Sure, but college wrestling is hard. It is also hard to find good HWT’s. I am generally positive because after many years of wrestling, including a brief stint at RU, I feel like I understand good/bad wrestling, and, to an extent, what these guys are going through. We wrestled poorly against Cornell, much better against Purdue and pretty decently today. My perspective is pretty positive because of what I see not because of rose colored glasses.

Michigan did not have an Olympic redshirt at 141. That is their regular. The Olympic redshirt Storr at 149 is wrestling this semester.

You are right, that's my bad. It was a regular RS this year but Mattin is a 2x R16 guy so either way the point still stands.

Funny I don't think Goodale agreed with you on that one. As I saw and heard him say, "Jesus Christ what the hell was that" right after the ill-fated move. I sat 2nd row across from Goodale and the coaches.

That’s the worst I’ve seen GA. Looked slow, sluggish was never in the match made some bad decisions.

It was a dumb move. But, you take the good with the bad.

How about Janzer though? Kid is tough as nails and a pitbull. You get 110% from him start to finish... absolutely love seeing that. If he can keep on developing offensively he is going to be scary good with his attitude.

Personally , as challenging as this year has been as a fan , it’s also one of my favorites. The future is bright . I believe that niko , Sammy , Jojo , Janzer are all potential AA candidates as their career progresses. Gonna really enjoy follow them as their career continues

look at the OSU dual , all are possible , niko is better than Malik , Sammy better than dectaeur, jojo maybe better than kinner ? , Janzer better than jordan . If we can find 2 more guys to outperform and then ultimately beat The OSU s of the world , then anythjng is possible

vulahek (sp) could be the best of the bunch too

the kids are young , enjoy the ride

I will have A LOT more to say both good and bad after reviewing some tape overnight.... But for now... My quick thoughts... We are a VERY young team EXPERIENCE wise... WE DONT LACK TALENT OVERALL... But they do need to develop...(even the Nolf's and Nickal's had a RS year to develop...) Aragona may have rushed himself... But he earned the right to make that choice!!! 2nd guess all you want.. But that wasn't our choice to make.... There is A LOT of talent on this roster... But it needs to develop.... Some will pan out... Some wont... Only time will tell...

This season is painful and difficult to watch even though I knew it would be a learning experience. I knew Sammy was the real deal and Vulah had potential to be a star. The talent is definitely there but when you have 5-7 freshmen or redshirt freshmen competing you will get the results we have seen. I am confident our coaches and RTC coaches will develop these kids to excel in the future.

I didn't go to the opening quad but sitting in person for all the home meets and this one tonight has been a tough row to hoe. As much as we like to say dual meets are meaningless, in person it sucks walking out with the loss.

Our season ticket group of 12 had plans to hit both Rider and Princeton this year. However, we might be backing off those. I don't think we could sit through a loss to those two at their place. On TV it'll be much easier to handle. But we'll be at all the home meets and B1G's.

Yea OK, were you there tonight? We also bought two student tickets to tonight's double header via the promotion Rutgers put out. My ass has been to every home match and will be at B1G's. Hell my ass has been to every home match for the past 5 yrs. I'm in the pin pool every year as well so I support the SKWC.

My wife and I were the original season ticket holders of that twelve. We would buy 4 and bring friends they had fun, then they became season ticket holders. That's how we grew our season ticket group. If I'm not a true fan like you say, well then, "so be it".

O and I never gave up my football season tickets either like so many did. Canceled an away trip to Illinois last year as well. I guess I'm not a true fan in that sport either. Oh well.

I disagree with that. Koleszar is a very loyal fan. Always on here giving positive criticism. Kind of a no-nonsense don't take any shit type person. Weren't the guy trying to bait me to give up our potential upper weight. Possibly jeopardizing the kids career . Sounds like you don't really care about the program.By the way he is going to be here within the next week and a half.

Is Rider sold out? Since i work in Lawrenceville, maybe i will go to my 1st away match

Rider tweeted this morning that tickets are available.
I bought my tickets last weekend and printed them out, easy process.

Not yet but good seats are few right now ..got floor seats last week but not many were left ...

Doesn’t Rider wrestle in a gym the size of a large high school? Doubt there’s any bad seats in the whole place.

Yes you're correct, basically our lower tier in the RAC is bigger than Alumni gym.

Taylor Venz just lost to Rocky Jordan.. Janzer’s win over Jordan looks even stronger now and is what I meant when I said it can affect his seeding earlier :)...
hmm Michigan state’s Cam Caffey, whom Janzer beat earlier, also just beat Venz and Illinois’s Braunagel..

And Assad!

And J Decatur loses to Nebraska Freshman Lovett

Is their OSU fan base losing it over pulling his redshirt?

Where does Venz drop to in the B10 rankings? 7th? Aaron Brooks beat Asad and may be the #1 now. Janzer has to keep winning

Not that simple to drop Venz to 7. Brooks has 1 loss and guess who beat him, Venz. Brooks will be ranked #1 in B1G.

Yeah. I looked at the B10 results from past years and he doesn't have a top 2 placement. He is a former AA 2 years ago and last year he got knocked off in the blood round. I remember B10 does their seeding a little differently.

He will probably be #3 or #4
Sebastian may pass him, but i doubt anyone else does.
I got a little carried away :)
