In case you missed the World Cup Finals this morning, the US Team lost a close one to Iran. The highlight of the dual was the 86kg match between David Taylor and Hassan Yazdani Charati. The Iranian pushed Taylor around the match for much of the first period; however, in the second period David Taylor stepped up his offense and outworked the winded Iranian. It was a classic rope-a-dope scenario. At one point in the second period Taylor essentially broke his opponent and went up by six points before pinning him. What made the win even more impressive was that it was in Iran in a jam-packed arena of Iranian wrestling fans. The atmosphere in that arena was amazing! See for yourself. Here’s the link:

yeah as soon as it got held up in court that gave the Iranian government the cover they needed to let Team USA in.

from watching the matches and from following the wrestlers twitter and instagram, the level of support from the Iranian fans was phenomenal. really impressive. the team came up just short but over all, some really strong performances.

also maybe worth noting that half the starters (Molinaro, Green, Burroughs & Rey) are products of NJ public high schools.

The boys were great. We beat Georgia, Russia and Azerbaijan to make the finals.

Taylor beat three Olympic medalists this weekend. The Iranian was the Gold medalist in 2016. I think he is defineitly getting comfortable at his new weight!
