Some said it will take 7years to make RU good program.
But now instead of letting the program improve little by little like should be expected ,
some of the it will take 7 people are acting like:

Guess when a HC with a 79- 75 (28-52 conference) record at RU is considered the best HC since Young left Rutgers, you know the program wasn't a world beater up there with the North Carolina and Dukes.
Jordan might not make RU MBB into a top program, but he has a lot to overcome in that effort and it might be a little too soon to give up the hope he can.
Rutgers is pretty bad now, but that doesn't mean it won't improve little by little and be a program we can be proud of in a few years.
That's my hope.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled ( after a loss)

If it takes 7 years to build a college basketball program (especially when you are in the B1G and have NJ talent in front of you), you've had the wrong coach all along....and probably paid him way more than you should have.

Its been 25 years without one NCAA bid with different coaching staffs and the inability to recruit and keep top NJ/NY talent.

It took to the third year to get a young roster and begin the process. It actually reminds me a lot of Schiano's years...just needing to get players in years 1 and 2 to really start over in year three. And while improvement came in year 3 and 4, it took year 5 to get over the hump

Even though progress is every this straight line and consistently incremental....I would be happy to see this progress from year 2 to year 4...setting up year 5 and with experienced developed team and, hopefully, younger kids coming on board to back fill it to continue the progress. This is critical in the next 2 classes

Something like this

year 2.....2-16/8-5/loss in Big ten tourney......10-22 (last year)
year 3.....4-14/9-4/loss in big ten tourney.......13-19
year 4.....7-11/9-4/win in big ten tourney.........17-16

while it would be nice....we dont need TOP NJ/NY talent...........many teams dont have NY/NJ talent.......we need talent from wherever we can GET talent....

I've been saying for 3 years Year 3 would be Year 1. He spent Year 1 trying to just get a roster together. He took a small step back in Year 2 for several reasons but recruited good pieces. Year 3 is Year 1. He has gotten our roster to be a lot longer and more athletic but almost everyone is a first or second year player and the guys that aren't, are just pieces, not difference makers. I know everyone is frustrated but this program needs baby steps. Remember - we are still doing this with zero facilities to show. At least we have gotten the RAC spruced up a bit.

I agree and I would also say that Year 1 was more about just fielding a team. That wasn't going to be a long-term roster. Years 2 and 3 are about building a roster.

Have you seen the upcoming OOC games....5 out of 6 are difficult...4 we are the dog and 1 is a pick'em the other is a W.

I'd sign for 8-5 right now. Kenpom has us 7-6. It agrees with 4-14 in B1G.

The roster has two new players who seem to be good. One of them is anything but young. And it took three years to get to that?

This roster right now needs a few guys that you wouldn't call "good." Guys you would find on a Dayton Rhode island, etc. Guys that are willing to do the dirty work...rebound, defend, and make the extra pass.

It needs a heck of a lot more than that. You don't get called the worst D1 team because of a lack of role players.

RU needs to keep recruits in the program. That is the only way we are going to see consistent improvement. Guys like Mike Williams, Foreman, Doorson, Laurent and Diallo will be excellent players by the time they are in their 3rd and 4th (or 5th for the big guys) years. The problem for RU - going back many years - is the revolving door such that we are always relying on young players that are not yet ready. EJ will find good players, but without enough depth, they will struggle.

The revolving door is the new normal in college basketball and there is no reason to think Rutgers will be the exception. And it goes both ways. Coaches will just as easily push a guy out who's not going to contribute rather than clog up a roster spot for four full years. We need to get more talent. If we get 2 or 3 years then so be it. To think we're going to have a roster full of 4 year guy is not realistic. And it's clear that Eddie isn't even trying to go that route. He's so desperate to keep his head above water he's totally relying on jucos, transfers and 5th year transfers.

Willis....

Eddie took over in MAY of his first year...and was WAY behind getting anything going in recruiting for year one and the fall signing period in year 2.

Not even considering that factor...The roster turn over is really pretty solid and we have a young nucleus to grow up and add on pieces to...

If you don't see that then lets agree to disagree

I am patient because I see pieces that give us a real chance in 2 years if we keep it intact, develop it and add more to it...

I agree. Let's disagree. Much more than the improvement you hope to see next year, the gaping hole of this fall's recruiting class will start to show next year and beyond, possibly only underscored by the typically much riskier pieces that RU scrambles to add in the late signing period.

I don't know which side I am on. I agree Eddie needs time and I like some of the pieces he has brought in. But I agree with Willis I think it is terrible that we don't have at least two solid commits this fall.

We were in the Big East for 17 -- arguably the best basketball conference ever -- and didn't build it.

We watched 3 coaches implode during that timeframe and fired another one for being in Jr.'s way.

The talent for the past 25 years hasn't been good enough.Where they came from is irrelevant.

THIS....its a huge concern that RU has no one signed for next year. As I have been saying from the beginning Eddie needs to do a better job recruiting. Yes there are some nice gets but are they enough to seriously compete for a NCAA bid...I have my doubts. Remember Freeman is only here another year, I would normally feel okay if he was a freshmen...but who is coming in to replace him...we likely need another quality JUCO of his type. Looking at this year roster the addition of Sanders and Freeman help but we still have the least talent in the league and that's not going to change for next year as well. Eddie will have to overachieve with his coaching with respect talent. I just feel he is coaching more like the NBA and not college

this year is all about progress..not wins and losses but you have to set some minimum standard of expectation. I expect the team to get better. I think some fans are overrating our current talent based on wins over Newark and Howard. How RU looks against the Creightons, SHUs, Wake ands Clemsons will be compared to how they progress against the Big 10 conference slate

To be fair MadHat, RUJMM78 has a point, and really, I don't think its a matter of being impatient its the following................

1. New Coach comes in, we are told to be patient. We are told it takes years to build a program. We are told the team is young and it takes time for them to jell.

2. We are Patient for that Coach. Losing continues.

3. Coach gets fired for not winning or naked free throws or Throwing balls at players or defending a father at a Baseball game.

4. New Coach comes in, we are told to be patient.....................

You really want to say our fans are impatient? Really not fair after 25 years.

I would buy 7 years if the guy could coach. He can't. I've seen enough to know that he is not a college coach. His teams are a mess.

Basketball isn't a 7 year rebuild. If you are hoping to win in year 7 in basketball, you might as well be willing to wait 100. Basketball, with the right coach and 2 recruiting classes, can pay immediate dividends.

Understand your and RUJMM78 points and I've been waiting almost as long as anyone here.
But how inept this program has been, what it needs to overcome, patience is the only thing I can hang my hat on.
Between Hill and Rice they set back a program that was at best average under Waters, into a dysfunctional one that became a program that couldn't offer it's fans much hope for the future.
Any respect Rice was bringing RU MBB went down the drain because of his actions and made it harder for any HC that replaced him to succeed quickly.
So I feel their isn't a quick fix.
1) The facilities need to be upgraded, winning programs can get away with what RU has, but losing ones need to show something to recruits to get them interested. in the school.
2) The money RU is willing to spend on a HC and staff isn't going to bring in a program changer, only bring in gambles like Rice , hoping to strike gold.
Jordan get more than RU normally would pay , because he care for RU and RU needed the PR his name would bring by hiring him to replace Rice.
Even that became a problem!
That's why I think 7 years is needed.
When that 7 years was first brought up, I argued it should only taker four, but changed my mind after reading some posts defending the 7 years.

Agree or disagree, but I don't think there will be a quick fix, unless Rutgers invests in its MBB program more than it is doing.

Patience. Many of us have the Bob Wenzel virus. He, and staff, took our worst team in memory, and turned it around in one year. Did we use up all of our hoops mojo for the next 100 years in the process? Seems like it.

I hope Eddie gets it done.

I keep hoping Eddie can get it done too. Let's start by winning tonight. That would be nice.
