You don't have to hike up a mountain to have a great hike. Last week I ran to Dardanelles Lake, which is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. About 3.5 miles each way and there were many families with small children making the hike. Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake are much closer, right by Emerald Bay. Gazillions of other great accessible trails.
Golf = Edgewood. Right on the lake, behind the casinos, and is the location of the celebrity golf tournament.
You'll have to specify what kind of restaurants you are looking for but here are a few with a view: Friday Station on top of Harrahs. Need reservations. Edgewood. They have a fancy restaurant and also a sports bar. Restaurant needs reservations in advance, far in advance if you are booking around sunset. Sports bar not so much. Riva Grill, at the Ski Run Marina (doesn't need advance reservations). Boathouse (on Timber Cove Pier). Jimmy's (fancy greek restaurant at 5 star hotel near Edgewood). Beacon (very casual). Off the Hook (sushi, etc in Tahoe Keys). There are others but if you are looking for something else, then please say what you are looking for. There are many options.
The Heavenly Gondola runs between 9-4 and stops at an observation deck before continuing to Tamarack Lodge. From Tamarack there is zip lining, nature trails, rope courses, etc.
Assuming that you are coming from NJ, the wives will be disappointed with shopping options There are tons of touristy shops around Heavenly. There are more options in Tahoe City so you can make a stop if driving around the lake. Tahoe, as a while, will never be known as a shopping destination. I do much of my shopping on Amazon. Basic box stores are in Carson City and Reno. Not convenient.
I live here so am available to questions and comments.
