OT: WOW… Pete Rose has died at the age of 83

Trump has always been a sportsman and follows a few sports close. He went to Army/Navy, Super Bowl and Daytona 500 (where Air Force one flew over the field). He talked to Rogan about MMA for a long time and knew ex-fighters from years ago. Trump has even played ring roles in WWF events. He legit likes sports but its also a way to have relationships with fans.

Ohio (home of Vance) is fav state and I'm sure there are a lot of Rose fans in Ohio . Maybe he was friends with Rose I don't know, but sports fans cross political lines so throwing them all a bone in Ohio is the way he rolls. He showed-up at East Palestine train derail and North Carolina flooding when DC crowd intentionally ignored them.

He has been in both parties and is legit a crossover "populist" and that's why he gets so much crossover in votes and cabinet. Many don't realize a lot of blue voters stopped voting a few decades ago when their jobs got shipped off . DT brought them back. If you're ever seen a collie keeping sheep together by running around and making noise - that's how he keeps disparate peoples together. He even had Muslims and Amish coming over their lines. There is a wide gap between supporting Pete Rose and Mr Lia Thomas and T knows where the people are.
He's no fuc$%in good!

OT: NY Yankees 2025 Season Thread

As in seasons past, Yankees need about 7-9 starters to complete a season. Gil out 4-6 weeks so Marcus Stroman gets his shot. Talk of trading him should fall off.

Sorry about DJ but it looked like he was heading to a defensive replacment role on this team anyway. Peraza and Cabrera will complete for the job. The silver lining is that they may have a little more success with the offensive production than DJ.

Refs

There is a difference between officials being "bad" and being biased.

Do you believe that officials are ONLY bad towards Rutgers?

Was bias on the Davis backcourt? Or just bad?

Perhaps they are just bad for everyone.
I posted a few examples earlier of other fanbase reactions - it appears refs are "biased" against every teams (including when Rutgers is the opponent - which means the refs were biased against both teams somehow?)
The backcourt thing was bad. But that could just mean the refs LOOK to make particular kinds of calls and the ref responsible for the ball there was not in position to make the call. How many times have you seen the "autocall" against Rutgers on a defensive layup and that same amount of contact go uncalled on the other end? How many times have you seen a missed call result in points for Rutgers opposition.. or even worse.. an offensive foul resulting in a turnover because "we" complained about a call they missed that would have bene in our favor?

It is not just a Rutgers thing.

You see UCLA complaining about being the new whipping boys in the big ten and long before us Nebraska fans complained how they were treated by officials in their new conference.

The fans that see the mistreatment and call it out have been told things like.. well, star coaches get the calls.. winning programs get the calls.. star players get the calls.. we shoot too much from outside.. you have to go inside to get the calls.

The star players thing certainly seems true this year.. we have seen Harper and Bailey both get their share of calls... though, certainly, Harper gets a lot of contact on his layups with no call also. As for going inside/outside.. we have seen that this is untrue as outside shooting teams against us also end up with more FTs.

I'd like to see broadcasts continue to total the foul counts on-screen past the bonus+ level so you might see a total like 15 to 10 for a half.

I'd like to see fouls called by official.. by name.. in favor of and against certain team names. In a game full of stats, why can't we see this? Why can't the Big Ten hire referee-grading organization NOT made up by former referees looking to protect each other? Why can't we see the scoring of these referees?

I'd also like to see how certain refs do in relation to the Vegas line in games.

Yes.. I am mainly concerned with this stuff regarding Rutgers because I am a Rutgers fan and I do not see even-handed officiating in many Rutgers games, if not most. Even half to half it can vary greatly. If I had one criticism this year.. overall.. it would be the LACK of calls overall. We do not have a very physical team. We do not body check the ball handlers and screeners very often. On D we try to form a line and have active hands to cut down passing lanes.

Most opponents seem to like to physically push us around when we are on O and there has been an awful lot of grabbing of our players on screens and such and even, I hate to say, calling Rutgers for a foul committed by the opponent. To me, this is the height of absurdity and you never see it the other way. You may see a Rutgers foul go uncalled.. but calling a foul on the player who was actually fouled.. that has to be intentional.

OT: Things in sports that need to disappear

- Fans at golf tournaments yelling "GET IN THE HOLE", "MASHED POTATOS", "BABBABOOEY" etc after a shot. That stopped being humorous 15 years ago.

- Stoppage time in soccer. Seriously... every other timed sport has figured out how to start and stop the game clock without it being a hidden secret known only to the refs

- The need for every MLB pitcher to throw 100 mph. Its a shame that if Greg Maddux was a senior in HS or college, he wouldn't have a single scout watching him.

- Anticipated fouls in basketball. Simple concept for refs... wait until you actually see contact before blowing the whistle.

- "Load management" in the NBA.

- In game interviews with coaches. Nothing of value comes out of them.

What else?
I'm not sure any of these things are either real or need to be stopped.

I don't like pregame football stuff, guy sitting around a desk yelling and saying things like, "when you talk about [insert guy or team], you talk about [insert whatever they wanted to blab about]. So I don't watch it. Ever. Or the postgame stuff. But it doesn't need to be stopped.

OT: NY Mets spring training thread

Castillo from Seattle? But he’s got a big contract.
IMHO, we are wasting Batys potential value in a trade by making him a bench player.
Precisely what type of value do you think Baty has, and how much playing time do you want to give him? He's 25, has over 500 ABs in MLB, has a. .214 avg. and a .606 OPS.

Listen, he'll get a shot this year at some point. But to the extent he's not getting a lot of playing time, he earned it.

OT: Stock and Investment Talk

How much liquid do you guys keep in your accounts? I put an equally divided amount into JPST, SHV and WMPXX - but am trying to decide whether to increase it
Very little cash in our retirement and overflow brokerage accounts which are funds and ETFs (just buy and hold). My personal/fun account (for stocks) currently has a lot of cash (30-35%) but this fluctuates quite a bit depending on my company equity vesting schedule.

Stay calm and carry on! :)
