Poor NIL is the biggest reason for our disappointing season

I grew with this. Never know what a rabid fanbase will do to collect funds for something specific.

I know that I was enticed to donate a scholarship and understood what the money was going to be used for and how it would help. I even did it for a good cause to name it for my wife, breast cancer, and chose women’s soccer as recipient. Has more meaning that way.

dumping funds for NIL not knowing where the money goes specifically is a crapshoot. It’s why every school relies on the mega donors bc they are specific with their ask. I need $Xmm for arch manning as our quarterback. Then they syndicate funds.

No one here knows specifically how much additional money to have kept cliff(he was def getting some NIL offered)

nj.com reported close to 7 figures. We should have been able to give him close to 7 figures.

. . .

“The Professionals “want Alonso back ! Hence the negotiations!

. . .

Again, at the right price, years, etc. Otherwise, they won't sign him.

At this point, I'm not sure of your position. Are you saying to pay him whatever he wants for however many years with whatever opt outs he wants? If not, what exactly are you saying?

Poor NIL is the biggest reason for our disappointing season

To sell your argument, the figures should be completely transparent. They are nothing of the sort. Shrouded in mystery.
They will never be transparent for competitive reasons. That hasn’t stopped UCONN, St John’s, and others from fully funding their NIL warchest. It’s understandable not to be able to compete with Ohio State and Penn State and similar programs in Football. There’s no excuses for basketball. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t win Championships in Basketball. The only thing we’re lacking is financial support.

The lack of NIL isn’t the fans fault, it’s Pike’s fault

The excuse that it was a lack of NIL that prevented pike from putting together a tourney bid quality roster (despite all the pikecanzee’s saying he put together not just a tourney roster but a 2nd weekend+ roster pre-season) falls directly on his shoulders.

There’s a narrative floating around that it’s the fans fault. Fans not willing to shell out $100/month, $50/month, $20/month, etc. That it’s the long time fans at the court clubs fault for not emptying their social security checks into funding a team. It’s all bs.

The NIL race is NOT being won and lost by fan collectives but rather it’s being won and lost by how many 7-figure check writers you can get to help you fund your roster. Folks saying “pikes trying hes going to the court club”. That’s where both you and pike are so fvcking lost.

In 2025, a college head coaches primary job is fundraising. It is the first and most important job that coach has in todays landscape. Greg has gotten creative, hes gotten folks not even associated with RU to pony up and weve seen the effects over the past 2 recruiting cycles. Pike seemingly has not.

I get pike is a hoops head and not into alot of other stuff but hes going to have to adapt or retire. Every waking hour he has away from the court this offseason should be spent pounding the pavement and meeting with any wealthy individual he can get in front of. The casual fan does not matter to NIL, it’s the whales who do.

We’ll see if he’s up for what the job now requires this offseason.

oooooooooooh the posters who bitch about every GD thing around here while not giving jack s*it at the same time are gonna love this one...kudos on the five page thread...

We're 3-1 in the B1G with a healthy Harper (and 2-0 with a healthy Harper and Grant playing). Just sayin'.

We were 1-1 against PSU and OSU in December with a healthy Harper/team, but still not yet playing Grant. And then DH missed the Indiana game, barely played against WI and played more, but very ineffectively against Purdue with all 3 of those games being losses. DH was close to 100% for the UCLA game which we won, and clearly 100% for the NE game on the road, our best game of the year - and Grant finally started playing in those two games, also.

And then we lost to PSU on the road after a very close first half with Harper turning the ankle late in that first half. He clearly wasn't himself after that and we lost. Same thing today. And if one is looking for silver linings, Harper was a non-factor today and Ace shot the ball terribly (but rebounded and played pretty good D), but with much bigger contributions from other players than we normally get (especially Derkack who played far and away his best game), we played a very good MSU team tightly.

I know these are small sample sizes, but just by my eyeballs, I still believe this team, with a healthy Harper and Bailey and an improved rotation with Grant getting major minutes and some of the other supporting players doing at least a bit better (and even without EO), can win more than half of its B1G games. Problem is I don't know when DH is going to be healthy again and if that takes 2-3 more games our only chance to make the Dance will likely be by winning the B1G tourney. And I guarantee you nobody in the B1G wants to face a healthy and hungry RU in that tourney (which we'll make if Dylan doesn't miss more than another 2 games, IMO). Not the season anyone was looking for, but we might still get an exciting last 9-10 games.
Numbers, you’re possibly right about the record, but sadly, we’re not.

I nominate this for post of the year. Nicely said, KK. But I think we all know the answer on whether Pike is up for this. If he was, we’d be dancing this year.

OT: NFL 2025 Playoff Games Thread

Buffalo is in trouble with Brentford likely out now with another concussion and then jumping offsides on a play that would've been a turnover for KC and now they're driving again towards another TD. 14-3 would be a tough deficit to come back from...

And as I was typing the above, Mahomes fumbles the exchange with Pacheco and the Bills catch a huge break. Love Pacheco, but I've had enough of the Chiefs winning and want to see the Bills win this game and win their first Super Bowl, although the Eagles will be tough to beat.

The lack of NIL isn’t the fans fault, it’s Pike’s fault

So ridiculous. The primary job of the head coach is NOT fundraising. That’s the fairly new job of the AD and the people on staff whose actual jobs are, uh, fundraising. I’m sure Pikes and Schiano are more than willing to do some glad-handing and schmoozing with potential donors, but it is NOT their primary job, nor will it ever be.

We have no AD in this important time in college athletics
