OT: Stock and Investment Talk

Yes because 95% of the time I don’t lose money but yes, I might make more leaving it in. My sister leave it in and doesn’t really look at it.

However, if I’m scared of losing money why am I in the stock market? I should put everything in treasuries bonds and CD. I also play poker and won 6 out of the last 7 times I played. Most people that I played at home don’t play at a casino because they found they lose money at casinos.

I think there are people that sense danger and I’m one of them.
You sense danger and pull out of the market literally every week (and miss out on so much). You are way too jittery. Can't live life scared.

NJ Recruiting

Recently Jersey top ranked kids have pretty much underperformed their ranking at the collegiate level for the most part, plus as noted above everybody is chasing NIL, so now you have money and ego involved. if you are going to spend dollars you better be damn sure you are buying performance, its so much easier to grade players who have already played collegiately for 3-4 yrs. Plus you need to reward current players on your two deep to insure they remain, Schiano has done a great job with this difficult balancing with developed players and portal additions and incoming recruits

How many more years does Pike get a pass with no tournament?

the buyout makes it relevant
Buyout
  • 2023-24: $15 million
  • 2024-25: $13 million
  • 2025-26: $11 million
  • 2026-27: $9 million
  • 2027-28: $7 million
  • 2028-29: $5 million
  • 2029-30: $3 million
  • 2030-31: $1 million
Rutgers hates buyouts and usually tries to keep the HC until the end of contract unless they can find a so cause
The 2029-30 season is when, in my opinion, RU will be willing to pony up and dump Pike if the MBB program isn't doing too well
These amounts are not what Rutgers owes Pike if Rutgers fires him. The figures are what Pike owes Rutgers if he leaves.

If Rutgers fires Pike after this season, Rutgers owes Pike $24 million.

Zach Martini - most impactful defensive player? Most important metric says so

uhhhhh. not the best arguement I've ever heard

this one on the other hand.....

which is why I believe he could be the most impactful defender and is quite frankly what this metric could be saying

On/Off metrics aren't worth looking at to me, given their limitations. There are just too many variables unaccounted for.

Martini was a defensive liability mid-season, and now is suddenly our most valuable defender? Give me a break. Ogbole got hurt, meaning Martini is the life preserver keeping us afloat. That doesn't mean he's an "impactful" defender... just that he's serviceable on a team short on experienced bigs. On/Off metrics can make "average" look "good", because the numbers are squirrelly.

Martini's been playing well the last few games, and I hope he keeps that up - but to make a broad statement that he's the "most impactful defensive player" this season in limited minutes is a bridge too far.

OT: Plane and helicopter collide in DC

Kind of like how the catch phrase he's Hitler and we must save Democracy has been tossed around no matter what the topic I guess. Either way you look at it, we all fly and we need to hear went wrong to correct it, no matter what it turns out to be. That's a fair request, no?

Who said that they shouldn't investigate and let us know what happened? The problem is that people think they are entitled to be given information every single step of the way here. You aren't.

But the downside to that is the vacuum is then filled with the conspiracies that explode on social media. People then think they can investigate themselves and suddenly they are down rabbit holes from sources that confirm their bias, etc.

Take the pilot's family taking down her social media. Suddenly the conspiracies start flying despite the fact there could be a very valid reason for that. Like maybe the family was afraid given the whole DEI craziness that people would start flooding her pages, contacting them, contacting friends, etc. We have learned that there is a subset of our society that are crazy and have zero compassion and are easily duped so it's not surprising (and nor is this the only time it's happened in a tragic event like this) where a family removes social media access for fear of what people might do. Just look at what people did to those Sandy Hook families after having their heads filled with BS by Alex Jones.

If her social media page has value in the investigation, then let the NTSB and military get it. What we don't need are some internet Columbos out there harassing the family. If that's why her social media pages were taken down, and I suspect that's the case given the immediate rush to blame DEI for this, I totally understand the family there.

Zach Martini - most impactful defensive player? Most important metric says so

That doesn't mean Martini's our "most impactful defensive player", though, especially since he's averaging just 15.2 min across 22 games (2 games he had 0 minutes).
uhhhhh. not the best arguement I've ever heard
In a hypothetical situation, you could have two elite defenders who split a position 20/20, and their +/- would be pretty much identical to each other in the middle of the pack.... and at the same time, you could have another position where there was an average and a poor defender also splitting 20/20. That average defender is going to look much better in an on/off metric than the two elite defenders.
this one on the other hand.....
It just means the bigs we have behind him right now can be liabilities.
which is why I believe he could be the most impactful defender and is quite frankly what this metric could be saying

OT: Stock and Investment Talk

I had a front row seat on GFC. Went 100% cash in 2008 and bought it all back in 2009. Hope I would never have to do that again.
We started investing in late 2005, but our balances were modest by the GFC. The GFC also never impacted us directly. Pharma is essentially immune to the economy in many ways and the wife was already working at RU on multi-year grants.
