After dropping two games in a row, Rutgers must fight to survive

In theory if we win the next 7 straight we probably have a shot but realistically that is obviously not happening. Another loss and it is well and truly over even from the true dreamer perspective.
At this point the only thing to look for is does this team show some fight and play with some pride, does Pike inspire them to show up and play with pride, or does this team continue to just give up as they did last 2 games and has Pike lost the team completely? That’s really the only thing to watch for, can they show up and play with some pride or has everyone given up on the season, including Pike?

Blue Ribbon was onto something before the season started. I guess everyone including myself drank too much Kool Aid. But in my preview for this team, I did mention all the weaknesses that could be major problems for this team. Those weaknesses I mentioned were exposed the entire season. Also, want to mention Pikiell's incompetence with the rotations has been maddening and have not solved any of the issues.

GAME 26 OREGON: Death Spiral

I look forward to the USC game on Sunday !

Since RU is cutting back on halftime entertainment this year - maybe the band can perform Tusk at halftime !
if we can just get Stevie Nicks 1979 hologram twirling her baton during the performance it will be worth everyones money

Everyone is complaining about the offense, but ….

I think everyone realizes Davis is only here and playing because of Ace. He gives very little. His “effort” is often talked about positively but he’s an undersized guard, not the great defender people make him out to be.
No, people sing his praises. It’s why he was recruited but not why he gets much more PT than he deserves. He may be quick but is usually lost on D and can’t stop anyone.

Acuff can’t defend either but is a better shooter and passer.

As you saw tonight, Davis can’t defend either. Shelby would much prefer Acuff who at least is a scoring threat.

Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey are top-5 picks, but Rutgers could cost them their NBA Draft selection

If their draft stock has been damaged they have done it to themselves, life is full of adversity, you either fight through it or give in to it. One thing Cooper flag does is he makes everybody around him better, I’ll let it go at that.
No. He has much better players around him to begin with. Am not making excuses for Bailey and Harper bad play, but they are playing with teammates who should not be on a Big10 team.

Flagg would struggle just as much here and our guys would be fantastic at Duke.

GAME 26 OREGON: Death Spiral

Grant and Somerville are hustling and playing aggressive and full out. Ace abd Dylan could learn from them.

The one bright spot I have from this season is DG and Lathan, they look like legitimate players who I think will be really good next year. Unfortunately it’s also the reason I’m already dreading the offseason because I don’t know that they’ll want to stick around here.
Dylan and Ace had efg% of .541 and .530 respectively. That’s with often being double teamed much of the night. For reference, as efficient scorers, Geo’s best season was .486 in his fourth season. Dylan has more assists per 100.

Lathan as an efg% under .500. Which is extremely low for a 5 man. For reference before Ogbole was hurt he was at .610 on more attempts per 100 and a better rebounder. Lathan gives you very little on the glass and is a major part of why our defense sucks bc he can’t protect the rim, plays below the rim. I see no reason to be excited about his future, though I’m hoping he can keep improving for our sake.

Dylan Grant may be a good two way player for us, but he’s a black hole as a shooter.

I know the season is already lost and that may change some of the players behavior. But the issue was not Ace and Dylan.

Ace and Dylan Top 3? Sorry. Don’t see it…

Dylan and Ace have not been helped by the coaching or supporting cast this year. And I would venture that they both may be having serious regrets about coming here when Dylan could have gone to Duke, and Ace could have gone to Auburn, and if they had, both would be competing for a National Championship this year.

Everyone is complaining about the offense, but ….

Did anyone think we'd be able to play defense this year? We added Martini, Acuff and PJ and 5 freshmen. Maybe he mistakenly thought he was getting a defensive plus player in Derkack. I see better defenders from 40+year olds at the Y. Acuff would have trouble defending an orange cone. The fact the PJ sees the court before him is crazy. I think PJ plays better defense (I like his effort but it's not B1G level though).

This season was all about maximizing the play on offense. Since Pike is a defensive coach, I came into the season very skeptical.

I hope Pike learned his lesson from this season. At this point, the program needs to finish in 16th place this year. The staff needs to be pile driven into the ground with a total failure of a season. Going 3-2 and then winning 2-3 games in the tourney isn't in the programs best interest (not that I think we're capable of that).
