GAME 26 OREGON: Death Spiral

I wonder if something happened internally with the team. They looked like they were finally competing, playing well together, had the Illinois game, then that was it.
They competed at Maryland even with Ace sick, but that was a tough opponent on the road.
They were up at the half against Iowa. So it's really just the last 3 halves. I wouldn't overthink it; it's not a very good team, they played better for a while, now they're playing worse. Yes they kind of gave up on this game with 8 minutes left and Oregon completely unconscious from three.

GAME 26 OREGON: Death Spiral

For the first time all year , I thought Pike didn’t even try to win this game. Decent start and no reason to sub for the sake of subbing. Dylan Grant playing well , Lathan playing well , Jeremiah playing well , Dylan better than ACE but capable of going off. The minute he subbed for no reason except wanting to play his bench.
Good point, usually no one complains about Pike's subs.

I don't understand the persecution complex of so many posters here. Especially the more negative posters. Like 90% of the board wants to fire Pike yesterday and a lot of people still post things like "saying mean things about Pike will get you attacked blah blah blah".

Yeah, that wasn't a popular opinion 5 months ago though you did certainly have a couple allies (@Greene Rice FIG comes to mind). It also wasn't popular among non-Rutgers fans given we were ranked preseason. I dunno, congrats on getting it right I guess, but this is a place where there is not a lot of consensus on anything so people are often going to disagree.

GAME 26 OREGON: Death Spiral

Unrecoverable

On the heels of a listless gutless peformance at the RAC vs an undermanned Iowa, Rutgers follows it up by waving the white flag before the midway point in the 2nd half at Oregon. A second consecutive game where the game announcers called out the Rutgers focus, seriousness and effort. A terrible indictment for these players but for the coaching staff as well. A second straight no show from the so called vaunted NBA stars who have looked INCREDIBLY ORDINARY of late if they can even stay on the floor. Go ahead and cash out because there is nothing for them here as if getting Rutgers to the NCAA tournament was more than a sidegoal to why they were here. 9-27 fg from the 2 stars...omg are you kidding me...that is so embarrassing for everyone involved in this.

I was wrong a couple of games when I said this team was starting to become likable.....no I should not have been fooled. LEAST LIKABLE TEAM I HAVE FOLLOWED EVER AT RUTGERS....and there have been some atrocious teams with bad atttitudes. None ever had this much talent leave a worse mark on the program than when they came in. The warning signs were there all along. It was easy to try and avoid them early but the issues with this team, coaches, lineup and recruitiment were beyond anyones belief

A sad ending to any relevant Pikiell era which was such a great ride up and now such a bitter pratfall off the stage into an abyss full of derision and a laughter

Only one point of contention.

We have talent in the frosh class…and that is it.

Outside the frosh , There is not another player on the roster ther would be in the top 8 rotation of any other big ten program

Four big ten players , all frosh ….is not enough to win .

We have a massive talent issue ….thnaks to three classes that only left JMike

Dylan Grant playing well , Lathan playing well , Jeremiah playing well , Dylan better than ACE but capable of going off. The minute he subbed for no reason except wanting to play his bench. Then he puts JMike in before Acuff when Jeremiah was doing fine . He benched Grant who seemed to come out with energy and ready to play . Lathan also came to play. . When Dylan and Ace in the game together , no 2 man game or pick and roll and pick and pop , no effort to have them dictate the pace of the game. Then the defense. To allow the number of 3’s as that was the only way the game would get away from us ,and to give them up with little effort to get us on their men as if it was intentional to let them hit 3’s was insane. Almost impossible for a team to be 10-15 from three if a lick of defense is being played. Starting the offense so far from the hoop with little cutting was the easiest way to defend us and he allows it all game.
Despite the ridiculous performances of Dylan and ACE , almost impossible to play the way they have the last 2 games , Pike did nothing to try to win this game but just attempted to play everyone which is hard to believe 26 games in. No one played their hair was on fire and looked like they were going thru the motions for the last 25 minutes of Gametime. Taking cues from the coach. Big Pike fan but this was the most disappointing game plan of the year and the players played like it. Never did I think this was possible . Ever.

GAME 26 OREGON: Death Spiral

Pike is losing me. It's not the defense, when a guy's last six defenses are #6, #16, #53, #6, #5, #105 I am not going to believe he suddenly forgot what he is doing there. But this team, with two top five picks, is still #64 in offense. We sold out the defense entirely, and for what? We just scored 57 points, that shit is pathetic.

But, alas, we are locked in by the contract so it doesn't particularily matter. Pike will get another shot or two to figure it out. I'm not as bearish on it as a lot of people around here are but I still wouldn't say I'm optimistic.

OT: Stock and Investment Talk

MSFT stock languishing as the great rotation away from some of the Mag7 continues. Taking solace in the fact that the EV/EBITDA multiple is still very competitive and as the economy slows, interest rates will come down along with the dollar. I have a better way to bring the 10 yr treasury down but rates at the long end should be coming down at least a little. Of course a recession would be really terrible for all stocks but hopefully the economy stays above water at least.
Haven't added to MSFT yet, but I should and will soon.

OT: Stock and Investment Talk

This was one of their best weeks in forever.

Talked about on Fast Money during the week.

But yes, back to that resistance level.

I feel it's a somewhat similar story to WOLF. When are they going to get their Fab's up, running and producing cash?

Tonight was rough, Pike has lost the team, team has lost its fight and they have given up. Really sad when I think back that it was not that long ago Pike had us on our way to the sweet sixteen and if we had beaten Houston like we should have that day, with easy opponents ahead of for a potential elite eight or even final four run. That feels like it was 10 years ago as the program is falling from a cliff (no pun intended). Don’t think RU hoops bounces back from the abyss until we have a new head coach.
