If we go winless the rest of the season, and the games are not close…

This is weird. Why are Jaydog's (or anyone's for that matter) takes not valid because he follows two teams?
KN's theory is I'm salty b/c FSU sucks this year, and am taking my frustrations out on St. Gregory and his devoted cult of followers (also known as the grouch old guys on this board)

In reality, I'm salty b/c we (Rutgers) are massively underachieving, in GS's 5th year back OTB, with a very favorable schedule and the most talent we've ever had

Yes, we've been hit with injuries
But my frustration lies with Greg's inability to adequately adapt to modern college football

How we traditionally play in bowl games, and specifically the first half of OSU last year (sans the red zone trips), is awesome
But unforthately with Greg, that's not the norm

He thinks this is still 1986 in Happy Valley, learning under Joe Pa, who, in case he missed the memo, actually had the horses to play that way, and moreover, that way doesn't work anymore in the modern game

If that's not clear as day to KN and the rest of the guys who drink the Kool-Aid and suck Greg off, I don't know what to tell them

No not being able to space the floor and making wide open shots is a huge liability. Every team will double off Jmike or play zone to slow Ace and Dylan. He cannot be a Zero option on offense end. His defense on small guards is great but is also liability in big ten play. Too small. Great young man and love everything about him. Will definitely be a coach when he’s done playing. Can’t play on this team more then 6-8 minutes.

40 years ago you could afford a Rambis but the game has changed so much with 3 pt shot and spacing that role Philosophy doesn’t play
So you want JWill on the bench too, because he is probably a worse outside shooter than JMIke.

I think you’re underrating Martini. I think he’s still adjusting as being a tweener. He boxes out every play, communicates and can shoot and a decent finisher whenever he gets the chance. Not going to wow you with anything as he lacks athleticism but I thought he played a pretty good game against Wagner and will be crucial when we verse teams that basically run two big men like Indiana, Washington, Purdue, Michigan.
I may, it's possible, he is a smart player, and we will need that with all the youth. I thought he was relatively invisible against St. Johns, and honestly only better against Wagner because they are small and not very good. For him to be effective, we need that constant energy/movement to result in a couple offensive rebounds - he had none against a team he should have owned. I do think getting up 4 three's was a good sign, but am still worried he won't put up more than a couple once the D is tighter.

The opposite is actually true, he would be a liability if the rest of the lineup was offensively challenged. Playing with talented offensive players, you can afford to have players who focus on defense, pushing the pace. Guys like Rambis for the 80’s Lakers or Rodman for the Bulls were not offensive threats but had roles to play.

Like I posted earlier, I see his minutes going down once Ace is back and Acuff is all the way back.

What difference does it make if fans are okay with the season or not? GS isn’t going anywhere anytime soon either way.

You weren’t asking me, but I’m always happy no matter what happens with any sports team. Which I guess means that yes, I am okay with this season. For any fan, winning is more fun that losing. But I keep it in its proper perspective. I have no control over the team or who the coach is, so I’m not about to let it bother me.

A fan can only make a difference by voting with their wallet. Beyond that, it doesn’t matter if a fan is okay or not okay with the team.
Fans pay the bills
When fans stop showing up, buying tix and merch, concessions, and donating $$, things happen
With NIL, we as fans no do have control over things we previously did not have control of

My wagner take

I think (or know) that there's no perfect roster and YES Indiana has Ballo, Malik Reneau and Mgbako on the front line and they're probably going to gobble up a lot of rebounds or missed shots.

The same concerns about RU on the glass, would be extremely concerning if I was an Indiana fan.....Can Ballo likely guard a little bit more mobile freshman like Lathan Sommerville?? Sure he can, but this is the dynamic of why you have to sacrifice something to gain something better.

Ballo will own the paint and hypothetically, would have mauled physically a player like Cliff inside, if Cliff was on this roster. Cliff would have potentially gotten an additional rebound or two vs a Ballo or lots of bigs.

The difference is NOW, when Cliff sets a screen last year to help a guard, he had poor hands, couldn't dribble and could not shoot from 3. If you watched Lathan he set the screens at the top of the key, then flaired to the 3 point line and launched a 3.....How is Ballo or a traditional big man, able to step 25 feet away from the hoop and guard Lathan, if he can dribble, pass and shoot?? The footwork of Lathan is something we simply have never had at the 5 man at RU. Lathan pulling defenders away from the hoop...

A) Keeps driving lanes open for Dylan, Ace, Jeremiah, Derkack and others. The reason why RU was able to drive and score is because the lanes are open without a Woolfork, Cliff, Myles Johnson, Ogbole type player on the floor.

B) Lathan actually got paint points after he maneuvered himself into the paint, on his own, after catching a pass further away from the low-block. He generates his own offense and does not need a pick and roll or pick and lob, which is easier to defend, when it was Mulcahy and Cliff.

C) Lathan has better softer hands and showed more offensive fluidity than any RU big since when.....?? The first instance of having the guard actually trust Lathan and launch a down court pass, means the players know he has hands and can function in open space.....the reverse spin and footwork for the layup, was elite for a freshman.

I know rebounding is a huge concern, but so is scoring from the 5 position.....if we got scoring from the 5 position the last 2 seasons, it was mainly close inside on jump hooks or dunks. If we can get 25 minutes from Lathan, I'm fairly certain he is going to score 8 to 10PPG, most nights and he's not the focal point of the offense, without clogging up the paint.

I think we need the points from the 5 position to help when Dylan and Ace don't shoot well, much more than trying to outrebound everyone. It's not like Lathan isn't capable of grabbing rebounds, he had 8 last night.....he can't be the only one on the glass, but he's just as capable of what we got the couple of years on the glass.
There is so much wrong here. An inability to rebound is not off set by the possibility of 8 points scored from the center position.

We just had 8 second chance points against Wagner, a tiny team. Our offensive rebound rate on Wednesday was 20% lower than last year.

With no Ace, some scoring from the 5 is nice. It will be meaningless in the flow of the offense once Ace is back. Rebounding is what we need. I also don't remember any lanes being open because guys went to the three point line to guard Lathan. One three, that bounced on the rim 4 times didn't have them running to him.

Womens soccer

I don't even watch soccer since it seems so boring. But, last night I found the women playing the #1 seed in the league tournament and found it tremendous. RU women lost a player to a red card early on and still were able to tie the game short handed. Then, they played tremendous defense and our goalie was playing out of her mind to stop them in regulation and 2 overtimes! Then, she blocked all 3 attempts with penalty kicks while our girls made all 3. On to the championship game!!! Nice to see one of our teams with D!
Damn. When was the last time anyone saved three straight shots in a shootout ?
