RU Makes a Top 25

its not the AP or Coaches Poll and too early to be the CFP poll, but ESPN has Rutgers at #25

Since its behind a paywall, I cant copy and paste it, but left the link below

Quick Highlights are:

1) They love Schiano
2) Schiano ball is good run game and great defense
3) Highlight Dariel Djabome with 12 tackles on Friday (NJ.com says 10)
4) Efficient Red Zone Offense
5) 15-1 in games where they have no turnovers

RU will have plenty more chances to move up these rankings - but as of now, they are a very tentative #25

Illegal Substitution Penalty - Husky Nation

I know we spoke about this previously, but thought I would share the take on the Washington board, which I semi agree with. Just for context, it was after the blocked FG and Washington recovered and was trying to advance the ball, but the ball carrier was in a big scrum. One of their freshman jumped on the field to celebrate but the play has not been blown dead

Husky fans agree it was a penalty, but the penalty should not have been a pre-snap penalty like illegal substitution. Should have been either an excessive celebration penalty or a post play penalty imposed on the kickoff, similar to if it had been a block in the back after the blocked kick

It is clear that the kid has no effect on the play, and if you remember. It was a 5 yard pre snap penalty on a 4th and 5, which gave us a first down, immediately followed by an Ian Strong TD

This is play as it was called - slow motion at the 1:15 mark. Clearly didn't interfere with the play and if he hadn't jumped RIGHT IN FRONT OF the ref, I doubt that penalty gets called

In the past. we are always on the wrong side of these - just ask Devin Watkis

Rutgers football: 'Insane' crowd sent Washington packing, Jersey-style

Fantastic article about the fantastic crowd and the players and Greg gushing about the crowd.

“Let me start by thanking our students,” he said. “That was special. In warmups they were out there and they were getting after it early. That’s a legitimate Big Ten home advantage, that’s what that was tonight. At times, you couldn’t hear yourself think. Believe me, that has an effect."

“You could feel it in that stadium tonight,” Schiano said. “That’s what Big Ten football is, and that’s what I want for New Jersey – that’s what I’ve always wanted for New Jersey, is to have that in our state. I grew up here, I played in this state, high school football, and it was always somewhere else, right? But I want this to be a place that New Jerseyans can be proud of. Tonight was a good step.”

In the end, Washington flew 2,900 miles home with a loss and a ringing in their ears. Rutgers fans took the cannoli.

FB Recruiting Northeast Spotlight: Four programs that have surprised in recruiting

Via @RivalsFriedman

Perhaps no program throughout the country had a more surprising and monumental summer on the recruiting trail than Rutgers. Things certainly look a lot different in Greg Schiano's second stint in Piscataway compared to much of the Scarlet Knights' history in the Big Ten, and the program appears to be on the upswing both on the field and off of it.

The Scarlet Knights made a big splash in June by flipping four-star linebacker DJ McClary from Penn State and keeping him in New Jersey. The program also has commitments from three other in-state four-stars in linebacker Kamar Archie, running back John Forster and offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews.

Rutgers currently has 29 total commits in its 2025 class, and ranks 22nd in the country. The Scarlet Knights have a chance to sign their first top-25 class since the 2012 cycle (24th).

OT: UNLV starting QB leaves over unfulfilled NIL

They were definitely looking like a strong contender for the G5 playoff spot.

Indiana’s Schedule - Easier than Rutgers

I’m tired of hearing how our BIG schedule stands out as being the clear easiest because we escape OSU, Oregon, Michigan and PSU.

Indiana only has to play OSU and Michigan on that list and the Michigan game is at home. That one sure doesn’t look much different from our Illinois or Wisconsin home games at the moment. Perhaps maybe OSU is a little harder than going to USC and playing them at their place with a start time in the middle of the night…. Sure, maybe. But both games are likely losses barring major upsets.

But then look at the rest of their schedule. It’s not even close. On the road they get NW and UCLA. They also get to play Purdue at home. Those are easily the 3 worst teams in the conference. We only get to play one of those teams. They also get to play Nebraska and Maryland at home while we have to go their places.
