Portal players

Greg has tried to fill in gaps in our depth with portal players, unfortunately except for DiRenzo and last years version of Flip Dixon, it hasnt worked. Athan is not good, Ray is not good, Miller is a small upgrade from Jackson who wasnt good, and Dixon this year is playing like he is afraid to get hurt. Rodgers has been decent. Ito was also good last year. Rhodes isnt strong enough to even see the field.

Reality in B10

The objective reality is 12 of the 18 (other than the top 6 in the standings) teams in the big 10 have all been pretty inconsistent. Yes today was a disappointment. Let’s see what happens the next few games and if the coaches can right the ship before we jump off a cliff. Two years ago games like today were still the norm. Gotta clean up drops and get run game going and hopefully get some guys back on defense.

Time for the Wild Knight

The RPO seems like one of the few things that has worked over the course of the season. Not that AK bears much of the blame but having a designed QB run seems more effective than a lot of our other sets. If you trust Ajani to throw ( wasn't evident from his limited snaps) bring him in as a change up it's not like Washington sitting the best QB in the conference but gives us more options on a stagnant offense

THIN Margin of Error

It’s pretty obvious that the way the program is built we have a very thin margin of error against BIG10 comp. Specifically:

1. Our talent level combined with the offensive schemes we run require that we execute close to perfect to be effective, we keep it simple, relying on repetition with few assignment errors and penalties. Counting on improvisation by superior athletes is not expected, it seems plays for the other teams success at least occasionally comes from QBs “making” plays.
2. Depth- Obviously, just not enough talent ready for the BIG 10, but in addition since the basic offense we run requires lots of repetition, just not enough reps for back ups with the ones, especially on the Oline.
3. On field/locker leadership. The culture that GS has created is a tremendous positive, the leaders exemplify the expectations and take charge on the field by their words and play when the going gets tough. When virtually all the leaders are injured, as was the case today, especially on defense, there didn’t seem to be anyone to pull the team together.

Slow and small

Still.
Not many game plans both offensively or defensively will work when the 3rd stringers of the opposition are better than your starters at most positions.

Our DL look like skinny oversized linebackers.

Greg actually believed our best chance was to smash mouth a physically superior team in every way.
We had subs running on and off the field not knowing where to go and a punter who actually punted to the opposite side running in the same direction…. A first.
Two timeouts after change of possessions.

100 percent unprepared and out manned
