The RAC the Sphere and the Dead

I am a 40 year old Rutgers Fan who has only been to a handful of modern concerts at the RAC.

I recently got back from seeing Dead and Company at the Sphere in Las Vegas and it was beyond words. While I was there, I couldn’t help but think of what it was like to see the Grateful Dead there in 1981. I have read stories about the Thunder and Lightning during the show and have listened to it in its entirety here: Login to view embedded media
Was anyone here there? Would love to hear some stories.

Also, the Sphere is an ABSOLUTE must do for anyone. It is beyond words. The pictures and video do not come close to doing it justice. The sound clarity, the visuals, the haptic/vibrating seats that synchronize with some of the drums…. The entire experience was life changing. Seriously.

One last thing—- I wonder if there was ever any talk of adding a museum type experience to the RAC where there is at the least a display of all of the different musicians and artists who have performed there. I think that would be neat.

OT: Where My MTBers At!?

Just figured I'd discuss a random topic, see how many of you on the board community, if any, are into mountain biking. I first got into it about 3 years ago, so I'm definitely still a bit of a newb when compared to some people I ride with who have been doing it for a couple of decades, ha. Anyway, my son joined one of the NICA teams we have down here in South Jersey, which is what OG got me into it. I got a bike (hardtail... Rocky Mountain Growler) and became a Level 1 Coach on his team and have been loving it ever since! We also got a Peloton around the same time, and more recently, the Zwift bike, so when the weather isn't great, we've got the indoor training covered. Track all rides & workouts on Strava.

Of course since we live in South Jersey, there isn't a ton of elevation, but we make do (the Bluffs in Millville, Wharton/Batsto for technical, Mary Elmer in Bridgeton, Ceres in Sewell, the Camden C.C. & Rowan C.C. trail systems, etc.). However, his NICA team competes in a statewide league (there's even a team from Don Bosco) so we get around a bit in the state for his races, and try to travel to some other areas to ride whenever we can. We've been up to Stephens, Lewis Morris, Chester, etc. He even had a race on Livingston campus on the wildlife preserve trails. Him and I have also done some trail systems in PA (Lake Nox and some Poconos stuff) and because of where we live, Delaware & MD. There's some great places down there (Fair Hill, White Clay, Brandywine, Granogue, etc.)

That said, any other board members out there who mountain bike? I'd be curious to know who, where at, how long you've been doing it, etc.

John Calipari says he'll only use a roster of 8 or 9 guys at Arkansas

"You may think I'm crazy, but I told my staff, I only want to have eight or nine guys," Calipari told Robinson, who is now the executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. "They're leaving anyway and why would I develop a kid for someone else? Why would I do that?"

Calipari said he's talked to other coaches who've discussed similar strategies.

According to NCAA rules, a team can have up to 13 scholarship players. While most teams rarely utilize every scholarship player on the roster, the idea of using fewer scholarships due to the turnover that the bulk of Division I teams have endured in recent years could signal a major shift within the sport.

Calipari has already added seven players to his first Arkansas roster, a group that includes former Kentucky commit Boogie Fland, a five-star prospect, and former Florida Atlantic star Johnell Davis.

But he said he wants to use the other spots on his roster for walk-ons and rely on those non-scholarship players and graduate assistants to help the team prepare for its opponents next season. He noted that women's college basketball teams often use non-staffers to help them in practice.

OT: First Player in MLB History to Play in Same Game for Both Teams This Monday

Danny Jansen was the Toronto Blue Jays catcher when the June 26th game with the Red Sox was suspended. On July 27th he was traded to the Red Sox. When the game resumes on Monday, he will be catching for the Red Sox. A first in the history of major league baseball.

I always wondered if there is some scenario where a pitcher can be the winning and losing pitcher in the same scenario.

By the way, Joel Youngblood is one of a very few that to have played (and the only one to have gotten hits) with two different teams on the same day. On August 4, 1982, Youngblood got a hit off of Ferguson Jenkins against the Cubs. He was pulled from the game in the third inning when the Mets traded him to the Montreal Expos. The Expos were playing the Phillies that night in Philadelphia and he then got a hit off of Steve Carlton.

OT: SIAP: Ohio State to cut funding in Olympic Sports

Ohio State going to lead the way on this one, and I'd expect many B1G/SEC schools to follow.

Many saw this coming, but Ohio State prepared to cut around 150 scholarships.

"We'll still have scholarships, we'll still have programs," Carter said. "Some of those sports may start to look and act a little bit more like a club sport, but yet compete at the Division I level and still travel and still compete."
