Hobbs Speculation Timeline

First and foremost, to whatever extent Pat is having medical issues, we all wish him a full recovery

Since this is a fan message board, and mist on here want to be the first to know, why not speculate or share news

As has been shared by other posters and other RU insiders whose last name us not O'Leary, the health issue was a cover for something else - with most speculating on sexual harassment ( affair with an employee)

Apparently this rumor has been out there for 3-5 months and to several insiders it was a question of When - Not If

There were no stories bring circulated about his health

As I said in a previous posting 5 hours ago - the "abrupt resignation " part caught people off guard - and God forbid that he is looking at huge medical bills, the best course of action would have been to take a leave of absence and at least stay on the RU Health Plan. Hopefully, he can still get COBRA as long as there wasn't gross misconduct

As a former attorney, Hobbs is 100% aware of the differences between resigning and being fired or mutually agreeing to step down. "Abrupt resignation" does not seem like he had control over the situation

The one part that sticks out is,

If this was something that people knew about as early as 3-5 months ago, why would the board have extended his contract in late April

Finally, as fans, besides wishing the best for Pat, hopefully this is a personal matter that doesn't affect the athletic department Rutgers athletics is in a much better place than it was when Pat took over, and hopefully, that will be his legacy ( yea, I get the contradiction)

Former Rutgers commit - USPS theft / bank Fraud

Assuming this is the same Donovan Bunch who at one point was committed to Rutgers (but didn’t make it due to grades) - 22 year old male from Sicklerville amongst those who have been charged.

Looks like we dodged a bullet here. If you’re going to commit a crime - stealing checks from USPS and fradulently cashing them should probably be one of your last options.

Cue the Star Ledgers article…

Can history repeat itself (AK related)

So a couple years ago there was a QB in the Big Ten who was on a team struggling similar to Minnesota last year, did not have a good OL or any good WRs just like what Athan was faced with, and was actually really hurt from the year before (just so you guys know Athan was banged up last year and actually played with a leg brace a couple of times including the North Carolina game). This person ended up with a 53% completion percentage-the EXACT same percentage as Athan last year- before a shoulder injury, unrelated to the injury from the previous season, cut his year short and he sat the final four games. He then goes into the portal and lands on a team with a much better WR group and a better OL. Sound familiar?

That person was Michael Penix Jr., who ended up throwing for 4600 yards that season for Washington with a 65% completion percentage. Now I'm having a little fun here, but I did find it interesting that Penix had exactly the same completion percentage as Athan. Now of course AK isn't going to be that prolific, but for those who think how much can a QB improve from a 53% completion percentage there is some history that it can happen.

Sign of Things to Come?

Transfers that don’t win starting spots. QB transfers at Boise St and East Carolina are backups coming out of camp. One transferred from USC and the other from Mich St.

Is it fair to say that they received NIL inducements to transfer but still got beaten out?

If yes, kudos to programs that play the best players on roster regardless of any monetary obligations.
