For how bad the defense has been in the first four games and early in this game, they really came on and played lights out the rest of the game.
The offense had countless opportunities to score and should have come away with 7 on Blacks dropped pass, 7 after the blocked TD and 3 on Patels missed fg. Thats 17 sure points left on the table.
You can't say the same thing about Nebraska because they did not really have any opportunities outside of their two scores.
It seemed like Kirk was lost on what to call at times, especially in the first half. Started out the game just running which was successful but had an obvious negative impact on AK when trying to throw on third down and convert. Then he got away from the run which was working and killed Kyle's rhythm in the second and Nebraska shut down the run. We were 2-13 on third down and 2-6 on 4th. Hard to win a game like that.
Also Nebraska must have been covering well in the secondary because AK, especially in the last two drives, would stand in the pocket for a while without having anyone to throw to only to end up being sacked or pressured.
We also need to get away from this silly non return plan with kicks and punts. It puts us in bad starting field position.
I put this loss a bit on Kirk, his gameplan and his play calling. Obviously the players have to execute but it seemed like it was a scattered offense.
We were two mistakes away from 5-0. Black's and Patel's.
