“Do you know how many times, when teams run baseline-runner, the cutter steps out of bounds? You’re screaming to the official ‘he can’t touch the ball,’ the guy passes it to him as he comes off the cut and they never call it,” Mack said. “I don’t even know why it’s in the rulebook, to be honest."
Considering that refs never make the call, it made me think Holtmann may have instructed Holden (or any of his players, for that matter) to not worry about stepping out of bounds and coming back in because the odds of being penalized for it are basically nil.
