It made it even worse as the cameras caught the Minnesota bench making faces and laughing as the FTs clanged off the rim one after the other.

If you didn't grow up shooting with the right form it's very difficult to undo the flaws. Laurents entire palm is on the basketball when he shoots. It's unbelievable. He was never taught and never bothered to figure out how to shoot correctly.
Jonathan was always able to get where he wanted to on the court in HS because of his better than average athleticism. As much as you tell 15 and 16 year olds "you need to improve your shot," too many are more interested in getting a mixtape. And most mixtapes don't show guys making lots of jumpers, they show lots of dunks. So guess what many kids practice? Especially in Florida.

Jonathan didn't spend the necessary time on his jump shot mechanics until after his junior season in HS. I saw some improvement that spring and, after a showcase event, he asked me what I thought. I told him that his jumper was a part of his game that he needed to keep working on. I didn't get into the specifics of his mechanics of his because it was not my place to do so.

Make no mistake, I was happy when he received the Rutgers offer but I knew that he would struggle because he doesn't have a reliable enough jump shot for high major basketball. Also, it didn't help much that he essentially played power forward in HS. Now he's trying to play small forward, the most athletic position in the game, in the B1G.

At this level just about everyone is as athletic as he is, and many are more athletic, so he needs to learn how to create space and make shots.

Putrid free throw shooting. Winnable game never got close because of missed shots from the charity stripe.

Outside of that, Pikell has them going in the right direction. I am encouraged by what I see and the difference in the scores versus last year. Time for a psychologist/hypnotist to get them to hit the free throws.
Hard to believe but the record for most consecutive free throws made is 5,221 by Ted St. Martin in 1996. It took him 7 hrs and 20 minutes.
