***'18 ATH Atrilleon Williams commits to Rutgers***

They do that during camps after their Junior year don't they?
Also play during the season can rise a recruits stock , at least when schools start looking at kids they might have undervalued their junior year and didn't wow anyone at the camps they went to after their junior season. .
Recruit move up in the recruiting ranks because of their play in senior year as well as get offers from schools that didn't go hard after them as juniors.

FWIW, he's a junior. Don't know that he's been evaluated yet

So typical around here.

We're told that we lack talent and that's the reason we stink. we're also informed that CA is a good recruiter so we have every right to ask pertinent questions such as who else offered ( not "showed interest"). The days of sitting back and trusting that every CA commit is a piece to the future success puzzle are over. I want to know we're getting guys that our peers are also after.

Yeah let's only celebrate commits 1 time a year, on signing day.

Posts like this make me want to stand myself in the eyes.
Wouldn't it be more productive to stab the guy making you want to stab yourself in the eyes, uh, in the eyes? I'm just saying.

Oh c'mon. Just say: "I love Chris Ash". SAY IT! SAY IT!

Wow. Impressive troll by the guy who is obviously from another site. Not sure why so many people responded to that.

There is no such thing as a rivals 0 star. They have either evaluated you or they haven't.

Who else offered him a scholarship ?

Maine, Syracuse, and Stony Brook.
As others have said let's see how he does in his senior year and see if our peers step up with offers .
If yes then we have a good one and hope he stays committed.

You are the absolute worst. Why are you a fan? Not only do you write this nonsense, but you do it in the "welcome" thread the recruit himself is most likely to see. This place is a total cesspool because of you and about 3 other posters.

First, offers mean less the earlier a recruit commits. Seems simple enough. Big boys don't jump on anyone early except the absolute lock studs. So if you are like most of us, and have no great insight into watching video, you will simply have to wait and see what type of recruit this is once more sites evaluate him. Anything Top 5 in NY is almost always a high level recruit though, so if another site has him at 6, he's probably a good recruit.

Second, "the days of sitting back and trusting that every CA commit is a piece to the future success puzzle are over" LOL. When were those days exactly? Coach Ash and his staff haven't even brought in their first class yet.

He looks very flexible in his tape. Reminds me of Gumby.

I am a big fan of his tape. Good hip and ankle flexibility, good acceleration. He runs a bit high, and I want to see him wrap up more on his tackles instead of just using the fact he is faster and stronger than other high school kids to make a tackle. Good athletic pick up.

No reason for any of us to get too excited about any verbal until they sign.

Whether or not any individual recruit sticks, it is extremely positive to see recruits committing early. That means the staff thought the recruit was a priority, presented the player with an opportunity, and that the player understood and accepted the opportunity. It means the staff is doing their job and it means the players believe we are going in the right direction.

And as long as the staff is competent, most commits stick. It is good news to get a commit.

TH's comment on twitter: "Remember watching his tape, (A. Williams), a few months back. Explosive. Talk about a legitimate B1G talent".

I'll take that assessment over the small, (but vocal), core group of "experts" on here who always seem to find something to gripe about. (Then again, in all likelihood they're experts at griping too, since that's probably the way they go through their lives anyway.)

WELCOME, Mr. Williams to the Scarlet Knights! Great having you with us "On the Banks"!!

says the guy following rutgers news on a recruiting website [eyeroll] what other commits we losing besides the lifelong wisconsin fan who went gaga over their offer back in may and the guy who has a girlfriend that attends penn state? outliers bro

To be fair, we have no idea if they're outliers until NSD, but we also have no indication that others are going to decommit just because two guys who were known high risks to decommit did. It's why I rarely post about verbals.

For the people who don't care about early commits.. why are you here, this is a recruiting site. That is the whole point of rivals.

Some are here to learn about the transfers out of the program.
Some are here to get the latest info on the tailgating for the high school playoffs.
And, of course, there are the reactionaries...who are here to explain their terror about some kid in Ohio with a knife, how the Statue of Liberty should be taken down, and to brag about their gun collections.

So the days are over? Boy that was quick.

We are in the midst of his first full class which is rated much better than any class we've seen in years. Much better than any Flood class, better than all but perhaps 2 Schiano classes. There are 3 4* so far which may be more than the entire number Flood brought in. There is a 4th that has transferred in.

This kid does only have 1 other power 5 offer. He's also playing his first full year after being injured for a portion of '16. He's only a junior who happens to be local. Of course if RU is doing their job we would be one of his first offers. He's already got the size and speed to play at the next level. His offer list will look a lot different after teams finish up '17 and start offering the '18 recruits. RU just got in early.

and that has to do with this thread how?

Just watch his highlights, that's a better way of judging talent than asking who offered. The "who else offered" question doesn't really give you a good indication of talent all of the time. This kid is a junior out of White Plains and tore his acl, he could be Jabrill Peppers and still not have a monster offer list based on his situation. Cuse already offered but it is beyond obvious that this kid is a better athlete than the majority of players most 2nd tier D1 P5 programs ever get. The OSU beat writer for another major recruiting site wrote an article saying how much of a diamond in the rough this kid is and he mostly covers 4 and 5 star players.

Just going by the ratings of this site, currently our class for 2017 is #36. The only other RU classes that were rated better than that going as far back as 2003 were the 2011 class (#32) and 2012 class (#25). And the 2007 class (#38) was close.
If you believe as I do that recruiting is the most important part of coaching at this level then you'd have to say Ash isn't doing bad thus far. If he can attract a couple of top recruits that are still out there for this class it may end up being the best we've ever gotten. Not too shabby for a 2-10 team.

6-2, 180. Other offers: Buffalo, Syracuse, Stony Brook, Maine
Under Flood this would be kiss of death as "no big time offers." Hope Ash is not taking same recruiting strategy. What works in Ash's favor - kid was injured this year so P5 programs may be taking wait and see attitude.

This is a VERY good way to start the 2018 class. More speed and size! A 6'2" CORNER!!!

I would say that's a major issue at this point. He's a tall, fast corner, he'll get plenty of P5 offers IMHO.
