With the Rutgers wrestling team's historic Big Ten opener - a 27-9 dual meet loss Friday night to No. 1-ranked Iowa - now in the rearview, it's time to take a deeper look at what happened.

The Scarlet Knights have almost a week off before traveling to Illinois for a matchup with the No. 13-ranked Illini. Then, No. 23 Rutgers will return home for a pair of huge home dual meets against No. 2 Minnesota and four-time defending national champion Penn State.

Ah, life in the Big Ten.

But before all that, here are five takeaways from Friday night's loss to the Hawkeyes.

Please summarize for us.
Now that's the spirit!

DO NOT click on any NJ.com links related to RUTGERS WRESTLING!!!!!

Let's show those bastards that we mean business and we DO NOT want any coverage of RUTGERS WRESTLING on the state newspaper!!!!!

By having less clicks on the wrestling links will show them!!!!!

This way when the general fan wants RUTGERS WRESTLING results and information and can't find it, they can go to hell !!!!!

Way To Go!!!!!

I understand how FDNY feels, especially when it comes to Politi and Manahan. That said, I want to read Everything written about RU Wrestling and all sports for that matter. Their coverage on RU wrestling has improved this season. The guys at
mycentraljersey.com give decent coverage as well. And of course we can go to The Targum's site as well. I also enjoy going to other Big 10 team's wrestling sites on Rivals and Scout to get more info.

Illinois is up next, and is higher ranked than RU, something around 10 compared to our 24, so it should be closer, but looking at their individual rankings, it appears they will win 6 or 7 of the 10 weight classes.

The NJ.com article is classic. we are a team on the rise. there is a big disparity in #23 v #1. (Think NJ.com reporter versus Wall Street Journal or pretty much any real paper/website.)

Stanmyre five:
1. Rutgers still has a ways to go

2. Ashnault comes up big again
3. Goodale's blunt assessment
4. The crowd did not disappoint
5. Campolattano's special return

My five:
1. RU still has a ways to go. - No Seniors at all in lineup. First year in Big Ten. First match with full lineup. 2 wins was minimum realistic, 4 wins was maximum realistic. We had three including a huge win.
2. Mostly competitive & improving - We were not competitive at 125 & 184. 149 & 157 were obvious disappointments. Cup half full. Three years ago, we got blanked by PSU, including one weight (no reason to name) where we had 3 min riding advantage and lost due to being gassed while on top for 4.5 minutes in first two periods.
3. Ashnault & Campo - Ashnault amazed. Campo conditioning not elite yet, but he is finally at weight and full strength post knee surgery. (Most importantly he is doing well off the mat.)
4. Pent up fan base. 5400 there. RU has been top ten avg attendance in last decade. This lineup and being competitive will make us top five.
5. Recruiting - I think we surprised a lot of people with general effort and skill level. Minn & PSU efforts need to help us plug depth holes with elite HS wrestlers. time for Perrotti and Theo to get angry and make a move. We need immediate depth at 174, 184, 197, HWT. We have no legit depth to back up Bakuckas (soph), Campo(jr) & Smith (jr).

But to call me a fool? reserve those comments for the mirror or in person . no reason for you to be such a jerk. do you see me engaging in such banter? I love when we are our own worst enemy. so productive.

If you want positive coverage like we all do you want more and more clicks on the wrestling articles. Copy and pasting content illegally reduces clickes and the coverage will suffer!

More clicks = more incentive to write rutgers wrestling articles...

Is that the same law saying it is strictly forbidden to rip off the tag under your mattress? lol

Not sure i believe "More clicks = more incentive to write rutgers wrestling articles..." or at least ones that are pro-RU (not homer-like, but at least home state oriented where readers are based for NJ.com.)
Star Ledger & NJ.com do not like RU wrestling for whatever reason. Note our varsity athletes being shown in their HS singlets. More clicks can not be attributed to Pro-RU readers and will likely reinforce that they are on the right path since the public must love them. Change of personnel or major advertising dollars by an RU loyalist is more likely to change their attitude. Just don't believe clicks alone changes quality or bias of their writers. Kind of like your immature 'fool' comment.

Less clicks equals less coverage good or bad.

Uh oh. Personal attack. I guess, by the letter of the ScarletNation law (our code of conduct), you'll have to be banned.

I am pretty sure you can copy and paste an article as long as you also provide the link. So people can just read the copy and paste without hitting the link

What about tearing off the label under your mattress?

a quick check on line and the answers I was getting said that you can do it as long as you are crediting the original source link
