A letter from Athletic Director Pat Hobbs

That's sweet.

He should walk around Happy Valley in his Rutgers gear on a game day and see what we have to deal with.

And please don't bother posting your stories of kindness and caring at the hands of PSU fans if you park in a VIP lot and sit with guys in suits inside a box inside their stadium. Your gameday "experience" doesn't count to the average fan who has to walk through the PSU common folk and students who HATE you and treat you as subhuman just because where you are from is where they are trying so desperately to escape.

I hate Penn State with the white hot intensity of 1000 suns - especially since some of my closest high school friends went there. But Hobbs is right. I had no problems at Penn State last year except one very drunk recent grad, and he wasn't violent in any way. Several PSU alums shook my hand and welcomed me to the stadium. A few fans told me that they were treated very poorly at RU - and these were not the stereotypical obnoxious PSU fans, either. Were there some jackasses? Sure. There were thousands upon thousands of people that looked at me like I was an alien from another planet for daring to be a fan of a school not named Penn State. But I thoroughly enjoyed the trip, even though it might not always be that way.

The Penn State fan base is like Alabama, Notre Dame, and Dallas Cowboy fans from the tri-state area all wrapped up in one - religious fervor, arrogance, obnoxiousness, holier-than-thou. But there's no reason for RU fans to make them feel unwelcome other than the ribbing all other opposing fans get. If a PSU fan is getting in your face, address it. But let's be gracious hosts and wait for their own arrogance to screw it up.

Great job 4real. You just pissed off all of the State Penn. fans who are dyslexic!

I hope Hobbs has designated someone to watch those future scarlet knights. I don't want them wandering off into the Penn State locker rooms. Who know what might happen.

Last time I checked:

1. Game hasn't been played yet.
2. He is the AD of record right now.

So the song remains the same.

So we take a hit, financially, by breaking the contract? Then he gets destroyed by the press for that, too? Listen I don't like it, at all, but you seem to be hating on Hobbs quite a bit for something he didn't put together. That's all I'm sayin'.

We are already taking a hit because we're paying the Yankees for the "honor" of playing there. And the press, LOL? We have already been made fun of for doing this in the first place.

I don't care whether he put it together or not but it's his job as the AD now to try and fix it. No hate here, I like what I have seen so far. A lot. But I (and about +/-25K others) will like him even more if he "gets" it.

But getting this game moved has no bearing, whatsoever, on whether or not he "gets it" in the grand scheme of RU Athletics. Sorry. it's something that just might be out of his control this late, plain and simple, unfortunately.

Like the letter and our AD. Always felt that the Big Ten Conference represented the ultimate in competition, however, at the end of the day respect for the opponents. I still feel that way. I can't say the same for some of the old Big East schools and their fan bases.

If you ask me "late" is the Fall of 2017 not when there is a year to go before kick off.

And it does have bearing if he can take care of his largest set of customers/fans and try and fix this. That would tell the press, the fans and the rest of our opponents (the off the field ones) that it's a new RU.

Hits the nail on the head with "Our signage..........should support Rutgers football, not denigrate our opponent." Lets stay classy and not be idiots.

Students will chant f Ped and who cares. This is football not a chess match.

Wisconsin fans chant "F U Eat Sh!t" and seems to working for them.

better than the hit taken next year with season ticket sales and embarassing attendence for that game bringing only 10-15K fans

for once I am in agreement with you. While I think the F Penn State cheer were totally stupid because students were doing it EVERY game, it is totally appropriate when we play them...duh, all student sections curse like this, lets not act like we are something different

There's no Led Zeppelin tune that goes with that...

I've heard "F....So-and-So" coming from students sections all over the nation this year. Even Utah IIRC. Who cares?

Again, that's NOT what I'm saying, I'm simply disagreeing with e5 that this is on Hobbs. it's NOT, sorry, in any way IMHO.

The initial deal? Not him. Not blaming him for that. No one is.

But if there is a way (and there is always a way) and it doesn't happen it's on him.

It's November of 2016 and the game is not until next year. He has some time.

What is the worst thing that can happen here?

All your doing is laying the groundwork to blame him and say "he doesn't "get it"" for the next 12-months. Sorry, just don't agree, that's all (and, again, I DO NOT want the game up there...). [cheers]

Actually all I want to hear is the answer to my question...what are the repercussions?

Maybe there is an amount we don't know about where it really is an "offer we can't refuse." I could dig that.

But what I don't want to hear is "this is the first of many games with our new partner" kind of thing.

I thought he had alluded to the fact that this was put together previously, and there was nothing they could do at the time, no? Maybe I'm imaging things lol...I'm quite sure he understands that this probably is going to be a complete failure and not to do it again.

Lets hope so. But I don't think I am alone in thinking this is NOT a one and done. That is the vibe I got (unless I am wrong and Pat is so smooth he even fooled the Yankees too - lol).

This is why I would like to cut bait now and deal with an angry Randy Levine later.
