A letter from Athletic Director Pat Hobbs

Nothing wrong with Hobbs sending that letter and I agree w/the principle behind it.

I think it's a missed opportunity though. He could instead have said it like this: "Let's try not to lose our temper, main or kill anybody in the opposing fan base like we did last time unless, you know, they really deserve it".

But still, his message didn't suck.

The culture of apologism must end with the AD. Hobbs has done some nice things, if he really wants to endear himself he should agree that our fans will be held to the same standard as all others, eg, not required to cheer at games like the Pope is setting next to them.

Apologism? Is that what happens at the end of a Greek porn movie?

Again, that's NOT what I'm saying, I'm simply disagreeing with e5 that this is on Hobbs. it's NOT, sorry, in any way IMHO.

Hobbs is trying to win over a fan base. His refusal to break the contract for the game in the Bronx will hamper his progress with the fans. Also, by not bringing that game back to HPSS, he is setting us up for an embarrassing showing in Yankee Stadium. The Maryland and Rutgers fan bases will struggle to get 15,000 people to that game combined.

Hobbs may not have made this decision initially. However, he is in charge now, and has the power to change a poor situation. This rests squarely on Pat Hobbs.

We as a fanbase are really unbelievable. We experience denial even when reading a dam letter from the AD. This lovely letter translates into the following: We are most likely going to get mauled on Saturday night and in the event that this happens, keep your cool and make it home ok. You know what TRAP says?? This mess is Pat Hobbs and Bob Barchi's fault!!! When Julie Herman and Kyle Flood were fired we had golden opportunity to bring in a very experienced AD and a very very good Head Coach with Head Coaching experience!! Instead we pinched pennies once again. So, let me be clear I will behave because I choose to behave not because of your letter. We as a fanbase deserve a letter of apology for nonsense we've been witnessing since last year.

I'm sure you still want Flood in there :eyes:

This might be the most "head-shaking" post in the history of this board. :chairshot::chairshot::chairshot::chairshot::chairshot:

Until we hear something otherwise what did he say that was wrong?

This game isn't next week, it's next year.

There are things known as contracts and unless you, him, or anyone else knows the details (for instance: penalties), then posts like this blaming Hobbs - FOR ANY OF THIS - in my opinion, are absurd. Again, I AM NOT A FAN of this, at all, but you don't see me complaining. It is what it is for now.

Sorry if you guys don't agree.

But that is what I am arguing...the NOW is not until next year. A whole year away.

Seriously, how big could the penalty be? So many things that seem shady here. If we knew maybe we could go...."Ohhhh, that's why. Makes sense now that you put it that way."

Absolutely nothing seems "shady" here. You're looking too hard for nothing. Now...if he goes and signs a 5-game deal up there (relax, lol, i'm just "spit-balling" here...), following next year's attendance debacle, then I'll agree with you 100%. This? It's really not the end of the world. Sucks, yes, but you guys are making way too much of this IMHO.

It might be the beginning of the end because the vibe I get is that this isn't just this one time.

And it seems shady because there are still unanswered questions raised by more than just a few posters on here.

* Even if it's just one more game makes me think there was more to this than any of us realized.

"the beginning of the end"? WTF are you talking about lol?

So what if "posters" have "unanswered questions"? Since when did that mean anything in the world of, well, reality?

I don't know where this is coming from or what you're getting at, and don't want to argue with you but, wow, I think you're way, way, wayyyyyy over-thinking this whole thing. Peace my friend.

What will you think if this is not a one time thing?

And since it hasn't happened yet it can still be a never ever thing.

Just kidding about the end thing. But until we hear otherwise not sure this is it for the Bronx.

This!! We have posters to this day that think Flood is better than Ash. And you are putting credence in them?? What a fool!

Umm ...your quote says different! You brought up the "unanswered questions raised by posters" nonsense.

I will never attend another football games in Yankee Stadium. It's just a fact.

And no, we're not making too much of it. It is how we feel about it. You can't tell people how they're supposed to feel. A large number of loyal fans are very unhappy about this. We are the customer here.

What has to happen here is that Hobbs has to be made to realize the degree of unhappiness among season ticket holders and take action to prevent a further loss of ticket sales for next season.

If that game is unbundled from the season ticket package, I can live with it (although I'm still not attending). If it's bundled, then I will consider not renewing any season tickets and I can just watch on TV. If I do wind up renewing, then it will probably be just one ticket. And if any other home game is scheduled at Yankee stadium, I will cancel my season tickets permanently and go find some other form of entertainment.

I don't care what pressure Hobbs might be getting from the Big Ten (my guess is none at all) or what other teams do w/these sorts of games. And I especially don't care about the whole ridiculous concept of playing there as a brand thing, or a New York's team thing. That's all pure bullshit. Play basketball in MSG and that takes care of all that.

Football should be played in a football stadium and home games should be played at home. And no fan should be forced to pay for a game they do not want to attend.

Students say F Penn state after every 3rd down.... it never stopped. You just cant hear it unless your sitting near them.

Students say F Penn state after every 3rd down.... it never stopped. You just cant hear it unless your sitting near them.

News flash....if Pat Hobbs thinks sending a letter out to fans and students is going to change behavior, he has an inflated sense of self importance. The students who attend the game will be drunk, rowdy and ready scream obscenities at PSU.

Does Pat realize he works in New Jersey?

That's sweet.

He should walk around Happy Valley in his Rutgers gear on a game day and see what we have to deal with.

And please don't bother posting your stories of kindness and caring at the hands of PSU fans if you park in a VIP lot and sit with guys in suits inside a box inside their stadium. Your gameday "experience" doesn't count to the average fan who has to walk through the PSU common folk and students who HATE you and treat you as subhuman just because where you are from is where they are trying so desperately to escape.

PSU fans would like you believe they are the nicest group around, until you are forced to walk near the student houses.

And before someone shows up to say "that guy antagonized them" or "that was a one time thing" let me assure you: No, no it wasn't.

That is EXACTLY how my group of RUTGERS FANS was treated in the 90's both outside and inside the stadium. All because we were wearing Rutgers gear.

So, sorry if I don't see eye-to-eye with the AD on this and it will piss me off tremendously if he spends the next week apologizing because some PSU a-hole is pretending he got his feelings hurt on Saturday night by something that amounts to a mere fraction of the abuse their scumbag fans dish out.

I hope Hobbs has designated someone to watch those future scarlet knights. I don't want them wandering off into the Penn State locker rooms. Who know what might happen.
And let's have somebody from the Department monitor the seats where the friends and family of players and recruits sit. We don't need a repeat of the Meechigian game where "ladies" with "Team Jabrill" shirts and Jersey Jackholes with navy blue "Hail" T shirts with an NJ state outline replacing the I are sitting among our folks.

Who is forced to walk through a frat's back yard? Not that I condone the behavior of those in the video but the Ohio State fans are idiots. They could have just walked around the party and stayed on the main street but instead they decide to cut through the fraternity. I have said it before but you can go to any venue in the country and avoid 99% of problems just by being smart. Sure you might here a few chants or taunts but if you are that thin skinned that they bother you stay home. This is the perfect example...if you see a big group of opposing fans, especially students don't walk right through their party or tailgate. It is means you have to walk around then do it. I know it a football game but remember you are still a guest. You can cheer and celebrate but don't be obnoxious. The worse is that guy who is surrounded by opposing fans constantly yelling We are or trying to start some visiting team chant. I been to tough venue like WVU as a Penn State fan and I have never had a problem simply because I don't go looking for it.

Again,

Has nothing do with whatever your most recent railing against topic is. Is it the Scarlet walk thing? I forget since there are so many I can't keep up.

The line was...

"And it seems shady because there are still unanswered questions raised by more than just a few posters on here."

The underlined meant people besides those who just post on here. I was talking about different guys in the media and other sites who have looked at this the same way some of us have.

I think it's great that Pat Hobbs puts out his expectations for fan behavior. I've always been treated well going to away games and I've had great experiences with visiting fans here at Rutgers stadium.

"F' Penn State" chants are crass and lame, especially when repeated. I'd be embarrassed if Rutgers fans started throwing beers at visiting fans as shown on the PSU clip above.

I'm at the games to have fun and throw some back. And screaming for Rutgers so much that I can't even talk the next day.

Then again, I'm one of those people who clap for the opposing team when they first come onto the field.

I would go to games at the Meadowlands. It's a football stadium.

But our home games are to be scheduled at home. If we play elsewhere, it needs to be either an away game or a neutral game. And no matter what, games scheduled outside of our home stadium should not be bundled into the season ticket package.
