Add Missouri to the list of vacancies

Wow! Thought he handled himself well with the press last weekend. Solid guy. You wonder if there is anyone on the staff they would consider since he has been there for awhile. Maybe Dave Steckel who worked for terry Shea here. Not likely I suppose.

Diagnosed with lymphoma in May, decided back in October this would be his last season coaching. Hope he gets well.

As to the coaching movement, it's been a crazy year but again still nothing out of the norm other than the "in season" nature of it.

But anything short of Bear will have this place in the same state it is now in 3 years.

Disagree wholeheartedly. All you need is a guy who:

- can recruit his own state (and better in general)
- has a "vision"
- runs a clean program
- has some semblance of a clue as to how to run a program on AND off the field at this level

...and we'll be in better shape shortly. I don't expect miracles here, for now, trust me, but where we are right now, and where he has us headed, are completely unacceptable IMHO.

Sorry to hear Pinkel's health is bad enough to force him out of the game.
But glad he says he's doing OK.

University of Missouri Athletics - Gary Pinkel to Resign Following 2015 Season Due to Health Issues
"I want to make very clear that I'm not doing poorly, and that this is a manageable disease, but it's one that will never go away," Pinkel said. "So many people have bigger struggles with other forms of cancer and other serious diseases, and I feel blessed that I've got something I can fight and still enjoy a good quality of life. I don't know how many years I have left, but I want to turn my focus to life outside of the daily grind of football," he said.

Probably need a great recruiter. And beyond NJ. Unless the Big Ten reorganizes, Rutgers is competing year-in-year-out with Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, and Pepsi State, who already have strong footholds recruiting-wise in the Garden State. Maybe the recruiting model should be Nebraska or Boise State or Kansas State, who go all over the map for talent, including JUCOs.

Wonder if Sarah Baumgartner has Barry Odom on her contacts list?

Schiano met those criteria but failed to even win the weakened Big East or ever beat West Virgina. I want RU to aim a lot higher with it's hire.

Later Babers. Fits the system and students will demand a Black coach.

McMurphy tweeted that Herman/Fuente/Rhule top candidates for Mizzou according to sources. Of course there will be competition.

You have to think Mizzou had been taking to people for months already.

He's the DC I mentioned from Memphis that did a nice job there and then left to Mizzou (his alma mater) this year and has them in the top 5 or so in defense. If he doesn't stick around, I'd think he'd be a great candidate for DC for someone.

That worked great for us in the 80s and 90s. I hate being stuck with the New Jersey leftovers.

Keep in mind the guy was there for 15 years went through that Sam thing - this thing & cancer and said screw it I'll take my chances 24/7 with the wife.

Why not go the Head Coach route?
He's been a DC only 3 years in total with 1 at the P5 level. That's not long enough for me in total as a DC or at the P5 level as a DC. In time he could be good but I wouldn't hire him just yet as a P5 level HC. For a lower level, I think you an AD could take a shot on him. As a DC I think he'd be a very good hire for the P5 level.

Wherever Fuente goes I could see a possible reunion there or maybe as HC at Memphis to takeover after Fuente. Maybe the new coach at Mizzou keeps him on too since he's done a nice job there.

This might be a perfect spot for Fuente - SEC East team, lower expectations, already familiar with area and defensive coordinator. If I were Mizzou, that's the first person I would call. It's not a better job than South Carolina, but might be a more realistic fit from Fuente's perspective.

Yeah, because Rutgers gets lots of titles in other sports right?

People make it sound so easy....

Might be a long shot given his success this season, but Tom Hermann of Houston is a name that is immediately associated with Missouri. The new Mizzou AD, Mack Rhoades, was the Houston AD who hired Hermann last year. Hermann's name is linked to bigger jobs, however, including South Carolina, Va. Tech and even the other USC. Those three programs all have more money and/or better facilities than Missouri.
$2.25 million buy-out.
