Alabama QB Cooper Bateman to transfer

Just another case of recruits going to elite programs and just sitting on the bench.

Better to go to programs where you can play and establish your stats for the NFL.

No reason not to go after some of these guys looking for playing time if they can help your program.

Pitt has had good success with transfer QB (Tom Savage and Nate Peterman) and hope it continues with Max Browne (Rivals 5 star, No 1 Rated QB in the country in 2013 from USC) if he commits to Pitt while on his weekend visit.

With all the QB issues Rutgers has had I don't know why ASH would not approach some of these guys.

Pitt RB James Connor (as expected) will enter the 2017 NFL Draft after Bowl game.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

I agree. And how do you know Ash isn't approaching some of those guys?

See no reports or even rumors.

Usually sports writers get wind of these things.

However, maybe you are right and ASH has made the effort.

You can recruit and wait or you can also supplement with grad transfers, transfers and Juco to fill in for talent gaps.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Cooper Bateman, the original issue of this thread, is a graduate transfer with immediate eligibility.

Pfft. Nonsense. The only bowl he ever went to is the one I just got off of.
That reminds me that I forgot to mention, in the boat email, that the next most important thing to be working well on a boat when doing ocean races, after the life raft and EPIRB, is the head. Otherwise it can wind up being a shitty time for sailing.

1000% true. I critique the head on every boat I sail on. It damn well better be clean, it damn well better not smell bad and it damn well better work.

Brian Fortay had some success but never to the level people predicted.
Fortay did have talent, but erratic. The program, including coaching staff, were showing signs of implosion to come... Tough road for BF.
I always wondered if Graber really wanted him. He wanted out of Miami, from East Brunswick, expressed interest in RU - highly recruited out of HS... RU would have looked foolish not offering.
Thing I remember, Graber refered to him as Fortay, Lucas as Raymond...

Pro-style, pocket QB. So probably not someone our staff is interested in at the moment, although he apparently can run. But if I were Ash, I'd use up scholarships for transfers or JUCOs on either OL or LB or kicker before I'd use it on anything else.

There's a first time for everything....

Quarterbacks aside... no. There's not. People say it, but it's just another one of those stupid things that people say when they're looking to say something.

There are innumerable things in this universe that there is, in fact, NOT a first time for.

You're not really equating the odds of a transfer quarterback succeeding to the chances of landing a man on the surface of the sun and returning him safely back to earth, are you?

No - I said "quarterbacks aside". I made no comment on the odds of a transfer quarterback succeeding. I was simply saying that there is not a first time for everything.

My nephew was the tight end on Fortays East brunswick teams. He was a damned good high school QB. Smart, shifty and could throw. Had some good talent around him too . If he didn't have to face Madison Twshp, now Old Bridge, every year he would be remembered as one of the all time greats in Jersey.

Haha, I suppose I proved your point for you in that case...

Considering Alabama doesnt run the pro style, why do so many pro style QB's chose them? And then act confused when they realize they don't fit the offense and end up transferring?

As I recall, Graber loved Ray Ray as his QB. Ray could run, had a good arm and was the leader of the team.

I remember watching those teams practice and it was Ray's team. He was the undisputed leader on and off the field. Cant blame Graber for going all in on him.
