Anybody else worried we're going to run out of schollies?

Not sure if this is true, but I remember there being a 25-player limit on each class. I'm assuming these are scholarships and not walkons. We're already at 16!!

I was thinking the same thing a little while ago. I know you have a 25 per year and a total of 85 limit. I am not worried yet but the class is filling up and there are some elite guys whom we want and they seem to want to wait before they commit. I would hate to lose out on a 4 star because we fill up early on three stars. I am sure, however, that Ash has a plan to address this even if it means pulling some offers off the table, especially if a position fills up.

I think the coaches will be able to deal with the numbers just fine. Trust in the coaches they know they are doing.

We have so many schollies to give out it's absurd. Ash clearly knows what he's doing and is infusing the program with talent and character by filling this class to the brim with quality players and students.

Here's the numbers breakdown of the guys still here from the last few classes (excluding guys who transferred, got kicked off the team, or will have graduated by the time the 2017ers arrive - just Isaiah Johnson).

2016 class- 18 (expect a transfer or two)
2015 class- 20
2014 class- 15

We need bodies, and I expect Ash to come very close to or even surpass that 25-man limit. Some schools have had in excess of 30 kids in one class through the use of early enrollees and greyshirts.

We've got a lot of kids still interested in us, but right now the only pressing need in this class is on the DLine so I expect Ash to go full-court press on those kids, and if others want to join the party (Bell, Hand, I'm looking at you guys) then there's still more than enough room for them to hop aboard.

I didn't think it would, but the responses have me feeling better. Now I understand early enrollees, but what the heck is a grayshirt?

Just gonna copy paste the first thing that pops up on Google:

When a recruit grayshirts, he signs a letter of intent in February but doesn't report for fall practices with his teammates. He delays entry to the school until the spring semester of his freshman year, keeping the NCAA five-year eligibility clock from starting.

I am sure, however, that Ash has a plan to address this even if it means pulling some offers off the table, especially if a position fills up.

But that's an immoral and slime ball tactic, remember? Or is that only when other coaches do it?

Grayshirt is when you have a kid delay enrollment basically putting them a year behind their actual class and counting towards the next year scholorship count. It would be a way of gatting a 2017 grad to be part of the 2018 class essentially.

85 schollies is the big limit. Between early's and transfers we'll be fine.

It is a slime ball tactic if you do it to a kid after he commits but if your class fills up and you run out of ships what else can you do. I am not saying it will happen but if you read my post correctly you will see where even you quote me saying "especially if a position fills up" which clearly ,to me, indicates you no longer take commitments to that position. Also, I said "pull the offers" not the scholarships. Read before you criticize.

With early enrollments you can probably take another dozen kids. I think the bigger question would be the 85 overall limit. How many kids may be asked or looking to leave before 2017?

Let's simply take a look at the amount of deflections from 2013-2015. LJ Liston, Bryant Gross, Nick Internicola, Josh Klecko, Taylor Marini, Dontea Ayres, Nadir Barnwell, Sam Blue, Darian Dailey, Andre Boggs, Jacob Kraut, Donald Bedell, Logan Lister, Kamren Lott, Sidney Gopre, Justin Nelson, Cal Ibanez, Anthony Folkerts, Marques Ford, Al-Kadair Ports.

That's 20 guys. I really think there's no need to worry about the 85 limit.

So will Wade-Perry, Singleton, and Tverdov. After that it's getting tight.
If we end up with Hand, Bell, Hansard and Bolds and the three you mentioned, I won't be mad about running out of 'ships early.

Love the way Ash & Co. are filling the class creating excitement and also creating a sense of urgency to jump on board. As mentioned above there will be scholarships for the key high priority guys.

anyone who early enrolles counts towards last year. So if you only gave out 20 last year you can have 5 early enrolls and still give out 25 this year. So essentially you can bring in 30 guys thisyear.
. no you can only back count 3. 28 is the limit with back counting

Trump agrees with this.

Given the trillions of dollars spent by the U.S. government these past 8 years, it must then be a pillar of belief for Congress and Obama. I do wonder whether it's possible to early-enroll a new Supreme Court justice, though [winking]

From what I understand, the 28 limit does not apply to players who enroll in January. There is a Big Ten rule, though, that you can only sign up to 88 total players (so, if you have 65 on scholarship, it would cap you at 28).

I didn't think this was a problem when this thread started but 5 in 5 days...Lets just all be thankful the coaches are going on vacation so they slow it down. Otherwise we would be full in July at this trajectory.

Sidney Gopre never qualified hence never joined the team.
Hopefully he will qualify after finishing his final year of JUCO this season.

That estimate is extremely high. We generally have 3 to 5 EE's

Actually I am right on your numbers. We have 18 commits, another 12 would bring it to 30. 30 minus the high end of your EE's, 5, would be 25 commits for the calendar year. Which is the maximum allowable amount. Not saying we will do that, just saying it can be done.

Generally, we do. But Ash went light on the 2016 class last year and only signed 18. My guess is because he was expecting to use some EEs for 2017 once he was able to build relationships within the state and start selling his vision for Rutgers' future. I'd expect this year to be an anomaly with regard to EEs for that reason.
