Ash and Politi long interview coming, and Ash complimented by Armen Keteyian

With all the hype I keep seeing and hearing about Ash I am starting to wonder if it can all be that good. I am almost scared. Its like this is a dream. Can he be as good as he is being portrayed? If so we have one heck of a coach.

However, I still don't trust Politi, he'll build Ash up only to enjoy tearing him down if any slight opportunity presents itself.

I think worst-case scenario with Ash is that RU has a team of high character, high-guts guys that don't win that much in a tough division.....I guess worst-case would be if the team was entirely composed of guys from outside of NJ since no recruits in NJ would be excited about it.....but I think we can rule that out. The message of "maximum investment" is reaching everyone.

If politi is doing his job, he's going to be pointing out stumbling blocks and he should be. If Ash's players aren't cheating or committing crimes, then the only negative angle Politi can take is on-field problems....like being overmatched.....and I think most fans expect those for a least a little while. Ash doesn't seem like he can be out worked......and him being out-coached is looking less likely all the time. It would really be amusing to have no NJ kids goto Michigan next year. That would be a turnaround people would take note of.

If #AshEra is as good as it looks like it will be, then we all owe Politi a beer. He always says he wants RU to succeed and his treatment of Flood, while bothersome to us for a long time, was right on the money in hindsight.

There is a lot of truth to what you say, however, I really think that whole crew over there went overboard on many issues. Even if they were writing a complimentary piece they referenced every negative article they had in their archives throughout the whole thing. Granted, in the end it led to Flood's removal but, IMHO, they created a lot of collateral damage.

Ash is trying to change the culture and make every part of the football program a little better each year. We won't win a lot over the next couple of years but we will enjoy the ride as we work on getting back to the best years of the schiano era. Give a few years guys not gonna happen over night.

I think this is probably true, based on everything I've heard.

The problem is that Politi is one of those people who basically turns into a total c*nt whenever he's on the topic of something that irks him.

I just don't get people like that.

Well, His entire job is to have a point of view and express it. I have no idea if he has a pleasant personality or not, but I think when you watch Someone like Tony Kornheiser or Francesa at work, you can see that sometimes they just have to posture to get a reaction.

This can't POSSIBLY be true. The day the Ash hiring was announced one of our - by far-and-away - best and most esteemed posters told us the following:

"I hope that his guy can get it done because this hire has eerie similarities to both the Anderson and Shea hires. Anderson because they are both well respected coordinators with no recruiting bona fides and we saw how horrific a recruiter Anderson turned out to be - albeit he had the worst facilities in D1 to work with. Shea because like Ash he had a very high profile Coach pushing hard to get him that job. When someone needs that to get a job rather than relying on the body of his work, red flags are raised very high. We saw the result with Shea - also a non- recruiter. I fear that this is a bad hire but I hope I'm wrong."

"This is a horrible hire by every measure - a non- recruiter with no local ties. Couldn't be worse...."

You're allowed to shame them by name!

No, no, I would never do that....it's against board policies and all ya' know....but hopefully, when this program is cured by the ills of the recent past, and we're winning both on and off the field again, we'll all have a good laugh at his losing personality's expense because most here have been sick of him for a long time anyway.

I don't think we have anything to worry about with Politti and Ash and the others. There is far more money to be made with winning and positive energy over the long run.

Chris Ash is an Urban Meyer protege. Full stop.

Anyone who can criticize this hire wasn't loved as a child.
That alone does not guarantee success. Addazio, Dan McCarney and Tim Beckman are in the Urban Meyer coaching tree.
That said, the fact that he worked for Bielema at Wisconsin and Bielema took Ash with him to the SEC speaks volumes. I can't find the article, but there was a recent interview where Bielma gushed about Ash. And Bielema does not appear to be a guy who would do that.

F Politi. It's not a loser mentality to hate that rag, it's management and writers. That manufactured shit they pulled on Mulcahy happened under the Schiano regime. Ted, Manahan and whoever the else was/is part of their crappy, tabloid style reporting are not to be trusted. It's not a loser mentality. It's a conditioned response to years of bullcrap reporting coming out the rag that long preceded the Flood error.

For Ash and RU you are correct but in the case of "journalism", NJ.com, and co. Dirt, smear campaigns, and scandals get more hits and sell more
papers

I feel compelled to extend your remarks, because I think the omission discolors the argument a little.

The "manufactured shit they pulled on Mulcahy" wasn't a Star Ledger fabrication. They were reporting on information that they were getting from George Zoffinger. He was, and remains, the true culprit in the Mulcahy lynching.

Bottom line is that if they printed and reported it then they are reponsible for it.

Exactly as Dpgru put it. They propagated it and printed it. That crew of "writers" (ahem) has stood on their hind legs for years waiting for meat to be thrown their way from leaks within athletics. Those days are over. They are clearly not getting the leads any more, as they have been scooped on many recent stories by national news outlets. So, Politi is being sent over to cuddle up to our new head coach. And some folks are all in. The first time they can let the dogs out on Rutgers, they will.

Contrast this with the reporting by the crew at Gannett/Home News/Asbury Press. While they did pile on in 2015 with negative stories, it was hard not to do so with all that happened in the last year. However, over the long haul, they have been much more objective and less douchey than the SL crew.

Don't know where you were when they threw truth out the window in an effort to get Mulcahy fired but those of us who were around will never forgive or forget.

The only "losers" are those who want their approval so so badly they refuse to learn from history. A Leopard doesn't change it's spots.

I stand by my statement....it's a losers mentality to hold onto that old crap. Things in the football program could do a complete 180 and folks will still be butthurt about the old days.....cutting into your enjoyment of the present and future.

It's just more mentally healthy to either forget or just set it aside. Sad that people still need to go on dissertations about stuff.

It's probably just because I'm an RU fan, but it seems like out of all the new CFB head coaches, there is the most hype and excitement around Ash.

I'd love to hear what a Maryland fan has to say.

Did you recently start following Rutgers? No, it is not loser's mentality. It is us vs. them. Politi is a bald Trojan horse trying to cuddle up to the new coach. F him.

Here's some history:

Oh, and that Mulcahy crapfest they started, they were in on it from the beginning.

I will derive my enjoyment from other sources of news, and there are plenty of them besides the yellow journalism that spews from that craphole nj.com . It's not butthurt, it's smart and economical use of time to read quality journalism.

If you Google DJ Durkin, there is a similar lovefest going on. It's a natural reaction to having a new coach and new energy. Did not realize it, but Durkin coached under Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh.

That comes from going through the Josh and Ted era.
During that time Fran Woods of NJO.com/Star Ledger wrote a hit piece trying to show RU fans were against stadium expansion and used an anonymous source, quoting what that source said.
Seems like she was partially honest because that source was a well known troll on NJO's Rutgers Football Forum.
When I put in a comment in her blog response pointing that out and calling her coverage of stadium expansion yellow journalism it was quickly taken down and I was banned from that site.
You want another reason some RU Fans want nothing to do with the Star Liar & NJO.conU
this: http://uselesstriviaandmindlessrants.blogspot.com/2008/12/rutgers-fans-versus-star-ledger.html

Just remember this is a honeymoon phase for the Ledger and NJOcon, they have done what they set out to do and now waiting to do it again.
Playing nice now so they can destroy more easily later , if given a chance.
Right now they have to play the nice hand because of the coaching change and the way Ash has the respect of the national media from his OSU, Wisconsin and Arkansas days, but as soon as they get a chance expect them to be back to their negative spinning ways.

Just because someone smiles at you after frowning before, don't believe you can trust them because of that and wait to see if they really changed their spots or if their true color will come out again.

A smile is just a frown turned upside down

Soon we may find ourselves asking how long he stays... just saying. We need to be prepared to step it up with big $$$$

A little premature for such thoughts? Many here calling for a losing season or two. Can we wait a bit and see how the team looks on the field before we start talking about raises and extensions?

A lot of good comments in this thread.

Agree time to forget about what Politi did and move forward. I think 4Real describes his personality to a tee. But for now he is being positive so embrace it.

LOL at Nuts calling out Sickoflosing but not saying his nameI remember that post and that was typical of him. So i say it. Sickoflosing was not curedbywinning and will forever be knownbywhining.

I like that Ash is changing everything and I LOVE that this thread is not about killing our former coaches. Glad we seem to collectively be moving forward. But most importantly Ash only looks forward. Glad to have him.

It will be interesting to watch - because if Ash & Co get traction & the momentum builds there will be a paradigm shift -
Yes, the rancid remains of the Star-Ledger may, at some point, sit up and still try to play to a small intensely bitter lemon-sucking anti-Rutgers faction. However, as Ash's strategic plans take shape and as substantive progress becomes obvious Big Ten Football will be sinking roots into New Jersey and growing like kudzu - - broad based strong & vocal support will build - - bit by bit, promising favorite son budding superstars will see a colossal upside to playing for RU - and if Ash's objective of building on character is fulfilled - the Star-Ledger Luddites will be left to wring their little paws over mole hills and wonder how the environment had changed so dramatically.

Correct - it is next to impossible to predict the shape of the improvement curve -
will it be linear? just a straight line positive progression ...
will 80% of the improvement over the next 4 years happen in the first 20% of the time?
or - will it be logarithmic - with a lengthy period of investing in development and then - boom! it all starts to really click

my guess leans toward some tangible rapid results -

Things in the football program could do a complete 180 with a new staff and leadership structure. I look forward to a similar turnover in staff and leadership structure at the SL, leading to a similar 180.

We're not talking about his raise and extension, we're talking about being prepared for the day when a raise and extension are necessary. RU leadership has been historically caught off guard, i hope those days are now behind us with better leadership.

As you stated, i think the low hanging fruit are what we obviously see happen first. AKA, we look like a team that knows how to play football. Once we have that we'll be in the best position to succeed, and then the road to bringing in top 15-20 classes vs top 40-50 class will be his ultimate hurdle.
