Ash tweeting "welcome to the fiesta bowl"

At the end of the day, this is a man who will be telling kids a week from now and for years into the future that they must honor their commitments. His first act as Rutgers head coach was to lead by example. If you look at it that way you'll be happy. If you choose to look at it otherwise, you will be stressed and unhappy. It's a blue pill red pill type of thing.

You also need to be a little realistic and understand that it is not totally about honor and integrity. The flip side to your story is that Ash is not going to burn bridges with one of the best coaches "Ever!!" over Rutgers. He's honoring his commitment to OSU because it benefits him not Rutgers.

However I do agree with you and fully understand that it is best to put a positive spin on this and hope for the best on 1/2/16. He will have a month to land some decent recruits and finish putting together a good coaching staff. Trust me the honeymoon period will either be extended or over on the first Wednesday in February.

The concept of notice here is clearly distinguishable. During the period of time you give notice, one typically does not actively promote a soon to be former employer who will shortly become a competitor. You finish your job quietly, with the focus always being on your new employer.
since your not a coach, it's understandable that you don't get it

"Come to Rutgers, I was co-coordinator in the Fiesta Bowl and tweeted a picture of the plane".... I'm sold!!

more like---
"I really liked coach flood and his vision for Rutgers, Tell me why should i come to RU and play for you?" OR more realistically the questions will come from Kids who didn't like the Flood Regime.... and his answer will be something like:

Well i've led the tOSU Defense through a National championship run and Fiesta Bowl in back to back years. I've got a lot of experience in Big game atmospheres and I can get you in the position to do the same. This is the Big 10 and i've seen this conference from top to bottom and know I can build something special here with you.... yada yada

Smh. He can't do that during the dead period.

Are you sure? I thought he could talk to coaches, but not to recruits during the dead period.

Nonetheless, as others have pointed out, there aren't a lot of high school coaches working during Christmas vacation. So even if he were in New Brunswick, he wouldn't be meeting with anyone.

You are all missing the point. I'm okay with him honoring his commitment and finishing out. I never said that was a bad thing. But, does this mean he has to be tweeting from Ohio State events? I guess to some of you the answer is yes and that he is promoting the Fiesta Bowl. That's fine. I'm just offering a differing opinion.

For the record, I love the Ash hire.

He can talk to both, but not in person.

I too feel like our AD made a mistake to allow Ash to continue at OSU after an offer was extended. That was clearly a mistake, but that ship sailed already, it's over, please move on. Why don't we focuse on what needs to happen here to improve our football program. He'll be here on 1/2/16 and will have 30 days or so to land some decent recruits.

How do you know he didn't try? What people here are forgetting is that this guy is in the coaching profession, and is connected to the hottest coach in the country. That connection is incredibly important to his career. Urban Meyer expects his assistants to coach through the bowl games and tells them so. They agree to that. Being upset that this guy made an agreement when he came on at OSU and are now annoyed that he isn't breaking that commitment need to grow up.

I am not so sure that Rutgers had the negotiating power to demand he leave immediately. He may very well have said no thank you if that was going to be a requirement.

I think it is GREAT he is tweeting from "Ohio State events."
He is at the Fiesta Bowl.
Is that an Ohio State event?
Or a Notre Dame event?
Or just a big bowl game that RUTGERS fans would give their left something to play in.

The more recruits see him coaching in such a big game, the more he can convince them he can do the same at RUTGERS because he has been there / done that as a recruiter and as a defensive coordinator (please stop the nonsense that he is a "CO-" defensive coordinator.
Everyone knows he runs the defense, and tOSU fans acknowledge that fact as well.

Is he supposed to hide and not speak to media?

I want him talking as much as possible and to be as visible as possible so people talk about him and where his next stop is - at RUTGERS!

Not really sure what you're talking about since Arkansas went 3-9 in 2013 and he didn't get hired by Ohio State until Jan. 14, 2014. He did however stay to finish his job at Wisconsin and coached in the Rose Bowl before taking the Defensive Coordinator job at Arkansas.

Shoe on the other foot . . .

Imagine a couple of years from now, our new coaches are approached with upward promotions at other schools, and say, "sure, but first I have to finish my commitment to Coach Ash, the players and RU". I'm all in.

See, as long as the loyalty is paid back, I don't give a crap. And if not, well, I can't change it, so, OH WELL.

And didn't he leave Arkansas in the middle of a contract to go to OSU? So he did not finish the job at Akansas?

So now a head coach and/or coordinator is supposed to stay at a school thru their entire multi-year (and sometimes extended) contract before accepting promotions into a higher position at a different school/level?

It is one thing to not be happy that coach Ash is staying at OSU to coach their bowl game; now you're moving the goalposts into unrealistic territory (turning down promotions in order to hold one's career steady for an entire year or more)..

Not moving the goal posts at all. Ironic that reading your first line, I think you have answered your own question. Bad enough not here but now tweeting from the bowl game justifiably rubs alot of fans the wrong way. And sorry don't want to hear the loyality and integrity mantra when it changes under the circumstances. All in or all out. Fight OSU or flight!

what changed under what circumstances? argue your terrible point clearly. it sounds like you're actually trying to argue that leaving before a bowl game when you are one of the coordinators and leaving in between two different seasons is the same thing

He should be driving around NJ, PA, NY meeting high school coaches. Not getting a good feeling about this guy & his staff
Efff this. If we hired a coach that had time right now to be driving around NJ meeting high school coaches it would mean we hired someone from a second rate, loser school. I, for one, am psyched that we have to wait an extra two weeks to get a guy who knows what freaking success feels like, and can explain to kids what it's like to get off a plane at the Fiesta Bowl.

Rant over.

What does that even mean? I clearly pointed out the difference between college football staff finishing out a particular season (i.e. Bowl game) at the end of their current contract, as opposed to accepting positions at other schools after the season is over even if their contract had one or more years left. That's why buyouts are built-in to contracts for both schools and coaches to pay. Therefore, you're moving the goalposts by including the latter situation in your argument.

Oh, and Chris Ash was hired by Arkansas in December 2012, but stayed to coach Wisconsin's defense under Bret Bielema in the January 2013 Rose Bowl. So this is all nothing new.

Are you really this stupid?
Or just trolling?
Or do you just hate Ash?

You are as bad as the Star Ledger - taking every possible negative angle possible.

Are you really a RUTGERS fan?
If so, why are you doing this?

I think he's confusing the 2 year commitment that Urban asks of his assistants. I have no issue with him finishing the season or the contract. It's highly, highly unusual. But That's what is required to coach under UM, then fine. And it will benefit us in the long run as Ash is a man of his word.

If he tweeted it as "New Rutgers HC, Chris Ash", I'd feel much better about it. On its own, not a huge deal, though.

well - you should feel much better if you follow the link to his Twitter site -
https://twitter.com/CoachChrisAsh

and not just the supplied link to the individual tweet picture.

you will see that the identifying top header reads:

CHRIS ASH I HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
RUTGERS
and you will see this picture -

and no pics / mentions of Buckeyes since just before he was hired.

If that's the case, then coach Ash will have also fulfilled his two-year commitment to head coach Meyer once the Fiesta Bowl is over. I respect that Urban Meyer is in a position of leverage to make those demands, and that Chris Ash is loyal enough to follow through for his own personal benefit down the line. I'll choose to judge HC Ash by his recruiting and the team's play on the field, rather than three weeks of split time and a tweet from the Fiesta Bowl.

Screw recruiting. Ash is going to make off season training soooo hard the Seal Teams would wilt. Take only kids who just want to come to Rutgers irrespective of stars. He will mold them into winners. Motivation is big to kids this age.

If he had done that at Arkansas would feel better about it.
You mean he left his job before Arkansas played their bowl game or before the regular season was over.
The difference between Ash leaving Arkansas for OSU and staying on at OSU instead of going straight to RU is:
OSU is going to a bowl game and that's the reason Ash is staying on, Arkansas completed its season and wasn't going bowling, that's why he was able to leave for OSU right away .
Unless Ash left before the last regular season game Arkansas played , don't think your Arkansas would feel better has any merit.

Are you just a troll with your head in the sand? Are you really a Rutgers fan if you accept less than 100% commitment? You're just as bad as those fans who still would want Terry Shea as coach because everything RU does is correct.

30 year fan and want what's best for RU football. Sorry but this is a fan board and not the Official RU website. Despite a nice deflection at a press conference many fans don't think our Coach still coaching OSU and now tweeting about it is right. Hardly hate Ash but so far not thrilled with some of his actions.

Stop drinking the kool aid. Most coaches do not and stop with the Urban worship. One need only look to our B1G rivals Maryland and our former wanna be rivals Syracuse. More importantly stop attacking RU fans who are just as loyal if not more who have the right to question some dubious decisions. We have seen a lot of them.

To be fair Arkansas had a similar two year commitment.

And I can list just as many coaches that stay. There is no kool aid or worship, only facts. And the fact was we let him finish at OSU or we hire another coach. The choice was easy and aside from like 3 crybaby posters (you're one of them), nobody cares.

Continental never had any 747s.

Stupid merger.

Yes we did. We had 747-200s inherited from People Express. The last one flew, IIRC, in 1998.

United's 747-400s are old now and suck down a lot of gas but they make an impression and carry lots of stuff.

The Airbus 350xwb will be its successor.

I guess you answered my question.
You're not a troll - you are just stupid.
(Or as least acting like it.)

Stop ripping our brand frickin' new head coach and cheer for him.

You sound like a Pitt fan.

Stop hyper analyzing everything he does, and turning it into how he is not giving RUTGERS 100%.

You sound like you wouldn't be happy unless he was sleepinf in his office.

Have you said 1 positive thing about him since he has been hired?
Or have you constantly posted only negative sh*t.

You really are a lousy fan, dude.

Get your sh*t together and get on board with "positive energy", or GTFO.
RUTGERS doesn't need fans that act like you have been recently.

Wait for a scandal. Then we could use the negative stuff.

Until then, stuff it.

(You sound like the kind of guy who complains about his Christmas presents.)

Ignorance is bliss. Want my RU coach here 24/7/365 100 %. Sorry if you don't approve. If you must coach OSU don't tweet about it and certainly don't tweet about OSU arriving. Really? Hopefully after January 2nd no more of this nonsense. Thought press conference was great. Love enthusiasm. Like attitude. Do think we need some experience and northeast guys. Don't think perception of disaster was fair one year after 8-5 and all Coach Schiano had built for ten years! If you don't want to defend RU, then stuff it yourself. You really are a lousy fan and should take a long look in the mirror. Pretty stupid yourself. Get your sh*t together and get on board with the proper energy when we finally have the coach not doing double duty or GTFO. Fight or Flight for RU 100%! You sound like the type of who doesn't believe!

Dude, I am so in on this new coach I can see his colon.

How about we set up a New Year's countdown clock so as soon as the Fiesta Bowl is over, every one of you mothers can join up and all of us can be 100% supportive of our football program and its coaches.

Can't wait until then!

(Actually, I can't wait to watch the Fiesta Bowl, too.)
