Agree or disagree.
Or is this just coach speak?
EDIT-fair question raised as to what are we not that far away from. The answer seems to be competing with and beating middle of the pack B1G teams and/or beating bottom B1G teams. I agree with Ash.

I think he's speaking from the perspective of cut out the miscues and we win the game. If we can do that, then yes, we're close. But that remains to be seen. At least we didn't have to wait till Q4 to see a first down.

The cheers were loud when RU got their first first down.

The current squad has Terry Shea type talent and is playing in the B1G where there are no easy games..Right now Rutgers is far away from being successful against league competition as seen against a mediocre Illinois team.

For the first 2 years I stand by ASH.

1-from what I see this is NOT a well coached team yet though...I hope that changes
2-I am getting tired of Martin getting us to the red zone
and
then Laviano gets the calls 3x to score(4x this year)
it should be 4x with Martin grinding it into the endzone IMO

Other than that,,,,I see some positives....(GIO, our WRs, our D)
for those who say...hire a better coach
there have been NO established coaches showing up for the job when its been open
very few coaches will even CONSIDER a rebuild like we need

Get another coach and let's see what he can do because the talent is there to beat Iowa and to beate Illinois

Why you would suggest that we get another coach after 7 games of his initial season, with a nice group of commits thus far for 2017 is kinda strange. Unless Nick Saban is calling....looking for a change of scenery....are you SURE you wanna be advocating a change at this point ?

5 turnovers is not good coaching right now but I have total faith.

So close to being the bama of the north...I'm sure there's at least one poster who will agree! [winking]

From Iowa and Illinois, I would agree. tOSU and UMich, I wouldn't.

The answer to the question depends on what we are not far away from. We are not far away from being competitive with the middle of the league. We are very far away from being competitive with the top of the leaguw.

WE have NEVER been competitive with teams like the top Big Ten teams.
Why would you think it was even possible ?

I remember Schiano making similar comments as we were building under him. Ten guys can do their job on a play, one man doesn't and the play could blow up. (QB misread, dropped pass, wrong route, wrong hole taken by RB, one missed block, one missed tackle, etc). Get that one last player to more consistently make the right decision or execute and production cam improve rapidly.

I won't answer the question until the season is over. Does Gio take over at QB and lead.us to more scoring? Do turnovers decrease? Does the offense look more dangerous? Does tackling improve, giving up less big plays? We will see. I hope he is right.

I don't think we're that far away from being a middle of the pack Big 10 team. I'd really like to see what we look like with serviceable QB play. We don't need Greg Ward 2.0. Just someone that can make the plays that are there and make something happen every once in a while when things break down. I'm hoping we get that from Gio.

Bio can throw the long ball, if we can get receivers to run routes correctly we are there.

I watched the tape of the game, and while I might have missed it, I don't recall one member of the coaching staff turning the ball over. If RU were the better team, they would've won, especially on their home field playing against a backup QB with a bad throwing shoulder.

Speaking of UConn (and Syracuse) lookie are probably better than us again.

And when Ash arrived in January he said, "You' re going to like this offense. We're going to score a lot of points." Really, coach?

you guys are a riot

why don't you let us know what Ash has done on the field that makes you think he has a clue? Say what you want, but other teams with less 'talent' have performed better against same opponents. Still waiting for those adjustments

Yeah, the TO's are on the coaching, okay. SMH.
do you have a clue? You don't think it's coacing that allows a kid to field a punt inside the 10!!!!!!!! or how about snaps, you are fine keeping your qb out from center on 4th and 1 with the snap issues we've been having? Let's not get into the sideline coaching

TOs suck, are a part of the game but a good coach limits the probability of them

you guys make way too many excuses for a guy that still hasn't done on field adjustments!!!!! What games are you guys watching????

nobody here will put up with this level of play for FOUR more seasons AL,even you would put down the pom poms after one more season of this.

Rutgers will give him at least that long.

Total rebuild.
