Ash...

Great to good because we went slightly backwards while a bunch of programs took a major step forward this weekend. We went from #26 a few days ago to #39 today.
If it's not our best ever then it's second best. It's better than any class flood put together by a lot..That's very important. And that's without figuring the true rankings of floods classes when you figure in the comical amount of transfers he allowed to happen.

These are guys who can play in the big ten. Not sure why people need to shit all over our current class. We have one of our best classes ever and people talk about it as if it were expected and even lacking.

We can easily add a bunch of 3 star players like Eddie Lewis and Mason who would nudge our class up to around 30 in the rankings. Does that really appease anyone even if their ranking doesn't match their skills? Our class does not change by adding players like that yet everyone can point to a number as if it meant something.

So who is your choice for HC, how much is it going to cost, and where are we getting the money from

We're stuck with Ash now. What we should have done was hire a coach with HCing experience preferably from the NJ area not another Schiano (young DC from big name school). That was the right move in 2000, not 2015. It's all water under the bridge. Best we can do now is hope for the best.

ACE we will circle back on this post in another three weeks. Ash can still pull it out and land a few big names. If not, we'll have a nice long debate on this..

Uhhh no. In 2018 my expectation would be 6. Posts like this continue to demonstrate our fanbase doesn't realize the shit Flood dug us into.

Not being a jerk, but you have low expectations. There are 6 potential wins on the schedule NEXT year.

E. Michigan, Morgan St., Illinois, Purdue, Maryland, Indiana.

Everything would have to break right in those games, no injuries, freshman not playing like freshman. It's possible though.

This is where managing expectations comes into play.

It's perfectly reasonable to call those winnable games. It's perfectly reasonable to hope that we win all winnable games. We indeed have a legitimate shot at winning them.

But it not perfectly reasonable to expect that we win all winnable games. The other teams are doing their best to win as well. OSU and MSU could be expected to win all those games. We are not them.

We truly are a battle fatigued fan base. Understandable, but our expectations are once again in the toilet.

It's going to end up being better than any of our last 3 classes, and probably our last 4. It's a positive step forward, that hopefully we can build on in 2018. We need multiple Top 30 classes to just get back on track in our division.
We will be taking baby steps over the next 5 years as ash builds the program. But I also say we need a jolt of lightning to ignite our future ...some special player or. Is G that impacts
Needs to do the coaching job of his lifetime this year or else there is no way he succeeds here. This class went from great to good. Lot of the top NJ players in the 2018 class already seem to be going elsewhere (although it is early and things can change quickly). If we do not see real improvement especially in the games against top competition (Washington, PSU, Michigan. OSU, MSU) next year, I think he is done. If you think about the poor talent level he started off combine that with the 2018 class and there is no chance of success.
surprised we have not heard from ash

Unless we develop depth fast, it also is 6 potential losses. Lots of variables here. So far, we at least have 2 new coaches on offense replacing other ones that most agree for this program is an upgrade. They understand the challenge and are ready to dive in to give us a chance here.

Best single class ever had 7 NFL players in it. And it aint 2011 or 2012 just saying

Well, we'll need to wait until 2022 to judge the 2017 class, then, I guess.

You can look at classes two ways.... what they looked like on signing day, and what they ultimately looked like years later. Since we're making comparisons to the 2017 class, which has no "years later" data available, it must be compared to what other classes looked like on signing day.

Also, since there's no service that offers full FBS rankings for classes based on their ultimate performance years down the line, it's not really that useful of a metric.

What *can* easily be said is that the 2005 class vastly exceeded its recruiting ranking (61st... with 0 five star, 0 four star, 7 three star, and 14 two star).

2009 was a solid class in its own right (38th... 1 four star, 19 three star, 2 two star). One can hope that a "Top 40" 2017 class has as much productivity as that one did.

2009 had 4 4* recruits according to Rival, Savage, Ryan, Holmes and the Rocket. Sanu not being a 4* was a joke. He was the most dominant player on the field in the NJ/NY All-Star game that also included 5* recruit Will Hill.

Wasn't it Sanu that couldnt play his Sr year or something. And agree, most underrated recruit in recent memory.

Yes, he was already 19 at the start of his senior year so he was ineligible. That's why he played in the All-Star game with the 2008 recruits

so many here need to figure out how they like their crow cooked

Ash is a huge mistake, threw away one year and this year will be no better unless he surrounds himself with assistant coaches and he steps away

Most rational posters don't have to eat crow for anything regardless if he ends up being wildly successful or not. Most of us have seen a single year after taking over a program in shambles. No way to judge him one way or another yet. Anyone proclaiming him the savior or a mistake at this point is quite honestly a full blown troll or idiot.

Sorry, was using 247 numbers, who only have Savage as four-star in 2009. Scout had Hayward as our only four-star in 2009.

More than a little over-reaction.

The best, and most important players, in the class are still in the fold (either early enrollees, or still committed): J. Lewis, Clark (enrolled), Melton, Fogg, Vretman (enrolled). And other than those, 3 of the 4 other 5.6 rated 3-Stars are enrolled or seem very solid: Bordner (enrolled), Bowles and Sh. Jones.

Ash came in inheriting "He who shall not be name's" team. He did what he could. I would suspect if players didn't get hurt, the Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana games could have been won. It takes more than one year to rebuild an entire program. All offense and defense schemes were new. The training program (and facility) was completely redone. Think we did pretty darn good this year in recruiting with the record we just had. Think that speaks volumes about Ash.

It is amazing that Ash is filling out the class with kids that would have highlighted it in the past 4 years and we now have fans going nuts that the sky is falling. There is work to be done yet but it is night and day from where it was.

We play in the 2nd best conference division in the country, so if we even expect to get back bowling our recruiting has to get consistently much better. No lower than 40s ever againn
