BC Slammed on College Gameday

Interesting. Since ESPiN doesn't do anything without having an agenda, one wonders if something is up with the ACC and its relationship with BC. Most of us here have long thought that BC added little to that conference and we've also seen how ESPiN engineered ACC expansion in a way that killed the BE. Maybe the Evil Empire now wants BC out of the ACC and has a replacement (or two) in mind who would add more to its income from ACC telecasts.

Three thoughts,
Has anyone other than Temple ever been kicked out of a conference for sucking?
A BC for UConn swap would make some sense
We are only a comeback win against Indiana away from being in the exact same boat (0-fer in conference in hoops and fb)

The ACC has three programs with huge recent scandals.

You truly only get really hated by the sports press by sucking

My thought after watching that video is why do they need FIVE people to be behind the commentator's desk? That's three too many.

Scarlet Jerry

Wow, after they mentioned that BC could go 0 wins in ACC basketball and football games, which has never been done, they all burst out laughing so loud.

Thank goodness we beat Indiana and Flood is gone. But BC has also been in that conference what at least 6 years? Should be doing better.

When it is really broken down - Temple was a football-only member of the Big East from 1991 until 2004. Temple was forced out of the league due to poor attendance averages, non-competitiveness, and a lack of commitment to the football program from university officials

But really - didn't the issue with Temple primarily revolve around their inability to resolve some large substantive facility issues - - inadequate & crappy stadium - and no viable / believable concrete plans to get to the required level of facility.

As a football-only member of a Basketball dominated conference - in the eyes of numerous Big East schools - Temple was the unwanted mutant step-child.

BC is in a challenging situation - but they are far, far, far away from being shown to the door ... but it might be possible that if there was ever a scenario where UCONN was under consideration to join the ACC - - BC (in this weakened position) could now have a difficult time trying to stop it.

yes rumba and terrible attendence concerns not wins or losses per se

Follow the money. Temple was booted because they were a financial drain on the conference. Conversely, Rutgers was admitted o the B1G because of a financial windfall. Wins and losses had little to do with either case.

I have a friend, and this is no BS, who knows more about what is going on in sports than you can imagine. He told me three four years ago that the ACC was very unhappy with BC and that they regret the invite. Being a Bostonian, I loath BC, but not sure they could be kicked out.

I don't think the B10 would be unhappy with Rutgers. Lots of new TV sets, new recruiting base to dominate and no threat of losing on the field to Rutgers

We are not better
some here I guess dont see the comments from other B10 school fa nbase laughing at RU basketball and wondering how we got in B10?..
We are in no position to bash anyone else in same situation, not now at least..

We were a FG as time expired from being in the exact same position, so let's not take too much joy out of BC's misery.

I have no clue what you are trying to say WF us 29-24 at half and beat us by 1pt. I am not trying to take joy. I am responding to a post that says they are better than us, nothing more.

I wasn't responding you, hence why I didn't quote your post.

I said we beat Indiana as time expired or else we would have been winless in B1G football conference play and there is a 99% chance we won't win a B1G basketball conference game, so we were extremely close to being winless in football and basketball conference play as well. Hard to take much pleasure of BC's misery when it could have very easily been us.

We have our own problems and we have no shortage of media types taking shots at us,ie: Beningo. Let's concentrate more on turning RU around rather than taking some weird pleasure in BC's problems.

I went to a BC football game back in 1998, and I was shocked by how lame their gameday atmosphere was. It felt like a big high school.

Devan Thomas was suspended and did not play vs BC. He had like 26 points and 17 rebounds vs us and didn't play tonight. Score was 29-2 at one point. BC has also been in conference for what 10 years and they are bad. We just joined.

Okay. I can go another way. If RU picks up 6 more inches they would beat Maryland. So the what if game goes both ways.

No. Temple is the only school who has been kicked out of a conference. The difference between Temple getting kicked out of Big East football and UMass getting kicked out of MAC football was that UMass agreed they would either join the MAC in all sports within 4 years or would get kicked out of the football conference. UMass chose to leave MAC football because they refused to join the conference. Schools like Tulane and Georgia Tech left the SEC because they disagreed with the direction the conference was going and didn't want to join the "arms race" in football.

Its no surprise on this board what has happened to BC. Remember before joining the ACC how succesful they were in football and basketball? Most people here predicted that joining the ACC would be their downfall and was going to hurt their recruiting big time and thats exactly what has happened.

I was not on this board at that time but that is exactly how I felt when they left. I couldn't see how they could make it work but it was their choice. I would like to see them as an OOC game if only to keep up the local game stuff.

The ACC Atlantic Division was very weak last season.

Boston College 0-8
Syracuse 1-7 with their lone conference win against BC.
Wake Forest 2-6 with their two conference wins against BC and Syracuse
NC State 3-5 with their three conference wins against BC, Syracuse, and Wake.
Louisville 5-3 with their five conference wins against BC, Syracuse, Wake, NC State, and 3-5 Virginia.

The bottom 5 teams in the division had 0 wins against opponents that were .500 or better.

Florida State 6-2 with the six conference wins against BC, Syracuse, Wake, NC State, Louisville, and 5-3 Miami, but lost to 1-7 Georgia Tech.

RU was a bowl team last year in the ACC Atlantic.

Basketball can be fixed much easier than football. It looks like football is on it's way under the direction of Coach Ash. I have to believe after this basketball season, changes will be made and you just need that 1 or 2 top recruit to change everything. With the basketball talent around a 2-hr. radius from RU, with the right staff, this also can be fixed quickly. It's up to Hobbs to get the right staff in place and based on everything he has done so far, I have complete faith in him.

As stated above and, and for the umpteenth time, It wasn't wins/losses. Temple was booted for cashing in a BE football check for years while not making any investment in the program, while simultaneously spending big money on their A10 hoops program.
The other schools were fine with them losing, but not diverting funds.
Then the former leadership at Temple tried to squeeze the BE in a poorly thought out power play and the BE called their bluff.

As I understand it, Temple probably would not have been kicked out even with all of their issues if not for their president making a complete ass of himself and pushing the issue of all sports membership. That was the nail in the coffin. From what I remember reading at the time that guy really hated football, I think he actually killed the football program at his prior job before Temple. Temple fans can chirp in and correct me if I am wrong.

Did Rutgers lose to Indiana? No, so dealing in what ifs or shoulda, could, or woulda exist only in fairy-tales. Then again if look at it from your point of view Rutgers should have had 2 other conference wins against Maryland and Michigan State. Throw in Non conference game against Washington State and Rutgers is bowling.

Umm, we have been trying to fix basketball for 30 years and its just as broken as ever. Schiano fixed the football program in 4 years.

He nearly succeeded at Temple as well. They were voting on continue/drop the program in 2004/5 timeframe.

I believe it was 5 years for Schiano's turnaround.
BUT does that mean we give Fast Eddie another year or more?

They're not kicking BC out and, if they wrote an article in ESPiN comparing the RU move to the B1G, with BC's move to the ACC, you wanna bet they'd make it seem like BC smells "rosey" while ours smells like compost?

It was five years to reach a bowl game, although there was clear and evident progress in the third. They averaged 1.5 victories in his first two seasons and won five games in his third season.
