Beckham is a punk

It will be really interesting to see how the league handles this. Doubt they will suspend him without a hearing and the like. The problem he faces is that teams will now use this to get to him, which is what Norman was doing. I have no sympathy for Norman, but Beckham has to figure out how to ignore stuff.

I like OBJ too but half the league wants to put him in the hospital. Somebody will succeed if he doesn't stop imitating WWF antics. Coughlin seems out of control in this regard. There should be lots of fines on both teams this week.

Really? Says who? Please, show me some quotes and whatnot, because even Aikman - who was obviously disgusted with OBJ today - said how out of character that was for OBJ.

I love OBJ...but he was out of control today. As Nuts said, I think this is the exception rather than the rule. I hope so. Kid is seriously talented! I never thought dirty before. He should apologize to all Giant fans and move forward. He will be fined though.

Can't go helmet to helmet into someone not looking. Has no place in the game no matter who we're talking about. What if he did that to your son!?

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with this thought process.

Its no secret lots of players hate Beckham's constant hot dogging. He can't score a TD where he doesn't have to jump around, gesture the crowd, jump on tables on the sidelines, talk trash to players on and off the field. He makes circus catches (with more help from gloves than is acknowledged) and then does circus antics. Even Beckham says he's a target.

"Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who took the league by storm in 2014 as a rookie, is now facing the consequences of his sudden success. Within his own team, he’s having to learn how to deal with ribbing. When playing other teams, he may have to learn how to deal with hits to the ribs...

Beckham later said he’d prefer that players make plays on the ball, not plays on the player trying to catch the ball.

“Guys have an opportunity to make a play on the ball, they’re not making a play on the ball, and it’s kinda going more towards me,” Beckham said. “But, like I said, it’s part of the game. I’m not gonna sit there and be the one to complain about it. It’s just like, man to man, if you have a chance to make a play, like make a play. Don’t make the play on me or feel like you’re trying to blow me up.”

Started with Norman body slamming Beckham, and now it's back and forth. Both players need to sit. And stay. But that benefits the Panthers. So it won't happen.
You are right, the body slam started it off, and if I was Beckam I would have
reacted the same. Now the Giant haters somehow are ignoring what happened
with the body slam, you have to watch the film, and see how flagrant it was.
I for one thinks he was fighting for his life, with being doubled up and being
man handled at the same time. Now I say the official should have had better
control of the situation, I do feel sometimes you should let them fight it out,
but this really escalated.
But the Giants do need to sit him down and read him the Riot act.

This. No doubt a great talent, but one of the most immature players in the NFL. He has to be suspended for that cowardly helmet to helmet cheap shot.

If your son goes around body slamming, after the play is over,
I would advise you sit him down and explain that you nor anyone
else can control the outcome, that it his responsibility to control his
own actions.

Beckham was in the wrong today for sure, but let's pump the brakes on him being the only hot-dogging player. Have you watched football lately? I can't remember the last okay where I didn't see someone get up celebrating.

Sure hot dogging is an epidemic in NFL but few make it as personal as Beckham. Beckham is closer to tea bagging Call of Duty style than he is to just hot dogging like Redskins old "fun bunch" There are dirty players out there. Some Suh or Packman is going to blow this kids knee out on purpose. Just a matter of time.

Does a body slam get an automatic fine and the player thrown out of the game? When I have seen that in games this year it usually results in 15 yd penalty but not ejection. Not saying it is right but you really can't compare the two.

Meh, they were picking on him all day. The helmet to helmet was a little much, but the refs let it get out of control.

Cam Newton is a douche.
A douche? Why, because he is the best player in the NFL this season leading his team to a 14-0 record? Want to write a letter to the newspaper like that woman in Tennessee?

BTW, which helmet-to-helmet shot by Beckham are you all referring to? The one where he jumps over the scrum as his teammate is getting tackled? Or the one where he breaks off his route and hits Norman in the head in the open field? Cuz, as a fan who couldn't care less which team won, he sure looked like an assclown on _both_ of those plays.

Listen, if you don't know the difference between dirty and deadly, I honestly don't know what else to tell you.

So you are saying if I get body slammed after the play, that's OK,
then I would have to abide by your rules as to how to retaliate if at
all.
I actually think its quite simple. Is there a great chance of injury to a full speed blind side head shot of belly to belly body slam?

Sad but not surprising reading fans defend the undefensable. OBJ is obnoxious, dirty, and self-centered. Back in the 70's and 80's that mindset was growing in the NBA and they lost a lot of fans until the league took action to eliminate the punk actions of the worst cases. In truth OBJ is the worst out there in the NFL today. The only folks blinded by this are the few Giant fans that find nothing wrong with it, or justify it with the childish argument that "they started it." Listening to fans defending OBJ's actions today felt like listening to some of the PSU Cult fans. Fortunately most Big Blue fans see a special talent, but a troubled self centered man. PS - in Any sport 3 Personal Fouls or equivalent would/should lead to an ejection.

No, because he celebrates like a douche every time he makes a play.

Where are all these previous incidents that make him an obnoxious, dirty and self-centered player. You talk like this is an ongoing problem that happens every game. When that is untrue. If it were why hasn't he been fined multiple times throughout the year if he was so dirty like you state. the NFL sure doesn't think he's the worst out there just you. He lost his cool today but to state this is an ongoing problem is totally false and just flat out wrong on your part. If you say his TD celebrations are obnoxious, then just look at the opposing QB in today's game. Or any game being played on any given Sunday.

I think he will come out of the closet soon. Or someone will leak it. Not that there's anything wrong that.

Huge Giants fan here. Was shaking my head all day at OBJ and his antics. Norman appeared to get in his head from the start and it never seemed to stop all day. The head shot was a disgusting display, but I do not think this is his norm. He's an enormous talent and plays with an edge, but I don't buy the idea of him as a dirty player. Norman himself, fought Cam Newton during training camp and baited OBJ all day. He has to be smarter. Today demonstrated a reckless lapse in judgement, but it does happen. Horrible job by the officials and by Coughlin to not get control earlier.

No, because he celebrates like a douche every time he makes a play.
Giving a kid a TD ball is a big time douche move, I agree.

Don't like it, stop him.

No other player celebrates any play in the NFL except Cam Newton. A great guy like Aaron Rodgers never celebrates his TDs, oh wait he turned a "discount double check) into a series of annoying commercials.

Tom Brady and Gronkowski do giant spikes of the ball when they get TDs usually with opponents around, but hey that is okay. Cam is different.

Giants had some bad luck this year with J.P.P incident with firecrackers. Has anyone seen that hand? Today they came real close to beating Carolina and in my opinion exposed Carolina a little bit. If they were to meet again the Giants might very well beat them. This kid Beckham needs to be reined in by Coughlin, if not this team may spiral out of control.

The Panthers can have a habit of getting up huge on teams, then letting them back in and holding on late. It hasn't bit them in the @ss yet, but it could happen in the playoffs. The issue is their offensive, even though statistically is a very good rush offense, is so dependent on the deep ball, that it is hard for them to control the clock with a large lead. In addition, their defense seems to be a lot less aggressive giving QBs a lot of time to throw and get back in the game. This Giants game was very similar to their game versus the Packers and Colts earlier this season.

Sorry to hurt your feelings, the guy is a jerk and has been since his LSU days. But for guys like you that's OK as long as he is on your favorite team. Despite your denial of his antics and rep, it sounds like you're OK with today. BTW in hindsight he was one of the reasons they lost today.

Beckham had no unsportsmanlike conduct calls on him prior to this game, whereas Norman did.

Why just Coughlin? what about the coach of the other team? Norman was baiting OBJ from the first
play, and that calls for a reaction, if things got too rough he could have backed off anytime. What about
the body slam doesn't that call for retaliation? He's calling Beckam a Michael Jackson, a ballerina and
many other things, he is just as guilty as OBJ.

It is called keeping your composure. The "body slam" set the tone, but it wasn't necessarily an illegal play. Norman set out to be very physical with Beckham and to get into his head and did so with ease. Retaliate with your play on the field, not a flying helmet spear that could have done serious damage.
Beckham is young and ultra-talented, lets hope he uses this as a learning experience or he was just exposed and will have to get used to this physical treatment.

15 yard penalty for the takedown and maybe the obj spear does not happen. Ejection since it did.

Can't believe that anyone on here is defending or making excuses for his antics. I don't care if your the biggest Giant fan on Earth. He was totally out of control yesterday. And above all he was completely selfish when he wasn't catching balls and when he finally did. His ego is his biggest problem. Needs to get back to being a NY Giant teammate instead of OBJ superstar

Cam is not the douche.
Obviously it's the me-me-me Beckham.

If the league doesn't suspend him, they are as spineless as the NCAA.

My goodness, if Carl Banks is saying he should have been tossed from the game, how can any of you Giants fans be claiming otherwise?
As someone said, you are like the PSU cult.
Defend "our guy" at all costs.

I was driving home from the basketball game yesterday and listened to most of the plays in question. Banks was droning on about OBJ needing to be sat down because "he's not contributing to the team's success" at this point. He said it over and over and over again. If he said that OBJ should have been ejected, I missed that and he only said it once. His point was more along the lines of someone needs to sit OBJ down cause he was hurting the team. Which, when OBJ started making plays on the last drive, Banks was noticeably silent.

Banks is not the go to guy on this argument. His comments were probably right, but his approach was very "get off my lawn" and borderline hypocritical by the end of the game tying drive.

Banks was a great Giant but is nearly unlistenable on the radio. He is a walking cliche and other than defensive scheme, tells you nothing you don't already know. And he's way too wrapped up in the "back in my day" point of view.

This thread is about Beckham, but I completely agree. Norman is a well documented ass and was so throughout and after the game. I mentioned earlier that this guy fought his own QB in training camp, so his judgment can fairly be called into question. Still would've liked to see OBJ show some restraint and maturity. If so, the officials would've had no choice but to repeatedly flag Norman. Instead, he's now looking at a 1 game suspension according to Schefter.
