Beckham is a punk

Beckham is an amazing talent but he does come off as somewhat of a jackass. Yesterday was beyond over the top. Yes it's a physical game and stuff happens but someone could have been seriously hurt. Dirty stuff.

That all said, I'm amazed at how much success the Jets have had this year compared to the Giants. I would have thought the Giants would be superior but definitely not the case.

Sure hot dogging is an epidemic in NFL but few make it as personal as Beckham. Beckham is closer to tea bagging Call of Duty style than he is to just hot dogging like Redskins old "fun bunch" There are dirty players out there. Some Suh or Packman is going to blow this kids knee out on purpose. Just a matter of time.

After that helmet to helmet hit yesterday, I'm shocked it didn't happen then. Kid is damn lucky it turned into a game or you can bet someone would gladly taken that shot.

The NFL has to suspend Beckham after they review the tapes but the referees in that game should be suspended as well. Waiting until the fourth or fifth infraction before they realized what was going on is a disgrace. Talented player but didnt realize he was such a jackass.

Sorry to hurt your feelings, the guy is a jerk and has been since his LSU days. But for guys like you that's OK as long as he is on your favorite team. Despite your denial of his antics and rep, it sounds like you're OK with today. BTW in hindsight he was one of the reasons they lost today.
Sorry to hurt your feeling but this post is all your opinion. You have no facts to back your statement up. This was the first game this year that he has gotten an unsportsman like penalty. If he was such a jerk he would be racking up fines and penalties but he hasn't. He lost his cool today, no I'm not fine with it but it happens. Did you see the Buffalo LB lose his cool against the Giants earlier in the year? Did you watch the Pitt vs Denver game? How about the guy from Dallas mister wife beater. A guy was concussed Sunday(Denver) do to a late hit it happens guys lose their cool sometimes, it's an emotional game.

Not an unsportsmanlike penalty but he was fined by the NFL in week 5 for taking a swing at a DB on the Bills.

I'm a Giants fan and am profoundly disappointed in Beckham. I get the heat of the moment stuff and Norton was certainly behaving like a thug, but the helmet to helmet hit was so stupid on so many levels. OBJ could have seriously injured Norton AND himself with that move. And zero remorse in the post - game interviews. Just disgraceful all around...

The only thing that really surprises me in all this is that the punditry is laying next to zero blame on Josh Norman. He's even being interviewed as some sort of victim or witness to the disaster rather than the instigator of it. I've got no problem with suspending Beckham a game, but I think they both should get something like a $100,000 fine, and Norman should get a warning.

The problem here is that the d-backs get away with this nonsense all the time. Time to even the playing field here.

Suspended for one game but is appealing. Giants are done. They stink just like every other team in that division.

What's the timing of the appeal process? My fantasy football championship run hangs in the balance.

And what's the story with some of the Panthers (maybe Norman - details are still coming in) bringing baseball bats on to the field, swinging them while pointing at Beckham during the pre game warm ups.

"Warriors....come out and play!" LOL

Yep you're right it is my opinion...

In my opinion a player that acts like a jackass at the expense of his team, earns THREE 15 yard penalties, including a clear attempt to seriously injure a player from behind, REGARDLESS of his reasons is not in a defensible position. But you stick to your childish defense of a known head case and point to other examples (I always smh at the folks that defend these actions with the arguement that others are doing it too ... bottom line is wrong is wrong). It's all ok for you because there are other bad guys out there, right?

I don't mind the suspension. But the guy from Pittsburgh better be suspended as well. His hit was even later than Beckham's and caused the Denver player a concussion. If it's a fair system they'll suspend both and a couple more. Hell all retaliatory acts should be suspended from now on. Going to be a lot of guys suspended from here on out if they adhere to a fair system. Which I doubt.

If you read my last post you'll know where I stand on this issue. But lets not act like he's the first one or last one to commit a retaliatory act. I'm fine with the suspension. But others should be suspended as well if this is truly a fair system. Case in point the Pittsburgh hit was clearly later then what Beckham did and it caused the player to be concussed. We will see if he is suspended as well. Hell all retaliatory acts should result in suspension but they don't.

Fans of other teams didn't like Deion Sanders either.

When your guy is the one who is uncoverable, breaking every receiving record for where he is in his career and peacocks all over the place, you think he is "passionate" and "full of energy." When he's not your guy, he's a punk. Other than the Falcons and maybe the Bengals, there is not one fan base in the league that wouldn't trade their #1 WR straight up for OBJ. And when he got to your team and had 1,200 yards and 18 TDs you would be high hurdling over your living furniture right alongside him after he scored.

And LOL at the idea his catches are due to the "gloves." Nobody else wears gloves?

Its no secret lots of players hate Beckham's constant hot dogging. He can't score a TD where he doesn't have to jump around, gesture the crowd, jump on tables on the sidelines, talk trash to players on and off the field. He makes circus catches (with more help from gloves than is acknowledged) and then does circus antics. Even Beckham says he's a target.

"Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who took the league by storm in 2014 as a rookie, is now facing the consequences of his sudden success. Within his own team, he’s having to learn how to deal with ribbing. When playing other teams, he may have to learn how to deal with hits to the ribs...

Beckham later said he’d prefer that players make plays on the ball, not plays on the player trying to catch the ball.

“Guys have an opportunity to make a play on the ball, they’re not making a play on the ball, and it’s kinda going more towards me,” Beckham said. “But, like I said, it’s part of the game. I’m not gonna sit there and be the one to complain about it. It’s just like, man to man, if you have a chance to make a play, like make a play. Don’t make the play on me or feel like you’re trying to blow me up.”

Yeah, sorry, this doesn't come close to backing up your comments. Thanks.

(** again, I'm 100% against what he pulled yesterday and am glad he was suspended, he sure as hell deserved it...)

Giants are trying to deflect attention from the fact that Beckham runs their franchise now. The Panthers have been doing the bat thing for a while now, similar to what the Saints did a few years ago and even what Rutgers did with the ax/chop. Regardless if pro athletes on a NFL field really think other NFL players are going to attack them with a bat, they have bigger issues than they already seem to display.

The guy is an incredible talent, but to listen to a guy like Tom Coughlin essentially bow down to his antics was depressing.

I would agree with you in most cases. The WR's in the past have been getting the worst end of the stick. No longer. The refs are typically all over the db's now. But yesterday was something else. Beckham was essentially assaulting Norman. That was some other wordly stuff. He deserves a hefty fine and suspension. If he is lucky, that is the best thing that will happen. He keeps this up, someone is going to break his knees.

What is going on in the NFL now. Carolina carries bats around in pregame? Roger Goodell has a mess on his hands.

I don't have a problem with the suspension of Beckham, but the other story here is being ignored, and that is that Norman baited him. If Norman gets off scott free, it won't bode well for his behaviour in the future.

Baiting seems like a broad term. Is talking sh*t about someone's Mom reason to cheap shot them? What constitutes baiting exactly? If so, baiting goes on all game. It is the person that responds to it that loses.

Giants - and Beckham - fan here...

Odell Beckham lost his damn mind yesterday. Norman (and Finnegan) are clowns and he totally took the bait.

I can't believe the "Norman started it with the body slam!" defense. I've seen female wrestlers deliver more legitimate body slams. That was a flop, not that there's anything wrong with Beckham trying to sell it. Also, "he started it" is a line of reasoning taken by kindergarteners and road-ragers who pull guns on people who cut them off. So Josh Norman was a little heavy handed with you and said some mean things...that doesn't mean you try to paralyze him.

I mean, he wasn't even running routes for most of the first half. It was the Panthers vs. 10 + 1. And shame on the Giants for having a complete lack of leadership. I didn't see one person try to rein him in, and that includes noted "disciplinarian" (even though his teams have no discipline) Tom Coughlin.

And finally, the lack of action by the refs is probably the biggest issue of all. Had they stepped in and done their jobs and taken control of the game, we wouldn't be having half the discussion we are today.

I would say picking a guy up and throwing him to the ground after the whistle has blown would be a good start. So would threatening him with a baseball bat prior to the game.

I'd love to see all of the plays between them. One interesting one is where Beckham got 15 for grabbing Norman's ankle. What the replays on ESPN don't show is that Norman was straddling Beckham after the play and taunting him. That is what caused Beckham to grab the ankle and get fifteen for it.

It's actually possible to consider these items separately. Beckham got tossed for a game and deservedly so. He took the encounter too far. At the same time, it is clear that the Panther game plan was to harass and taunt Beckham. The league should review the tapes and see what all Norman and Finnegan did. Will they? When pigs fly.

I can't wait for the ESPN e:60 where all the talking heads analyze Beckham and then he gets is a sit down with Ray Lewis.

Report came out that the panthers taunted him for being gay. This can't be tolerated in thus day and age. Panthers own part of this.

Good point. Roger Goodell really runs a well-oiled machine and deserves every penny of that $40mm+ salary. /s

Not surprising considering the remarks after the game from Norman and Finnegan, referencing "ballerinas" and "prancing" and "there must be something female in his blood". Misogynistic at best, but more likely homophobic.

Right the league won't do anything when one of the biggest superstars made a fool of himself on one of the NFL's pet franchises. Please, you think the Panthers have pull with the NFL like that?

The bat talk is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, this is an NFL game, not some school yard situation where people could actually use bats.

There was that accusation and the bat. Essentially they are going over the top to protect him and are trying to divert attention on his behavior. OBJ runs that organization right now and their record with him in charge is not good.

Honestly, I can't think of a time where someone acted that crazy on the football field outside of The Last Boy Scout.

Someone here couldn't be more obvious with his disdain for OBJ and/or the Giants as well (and it doesn't seem to just have begun yesterday...).

Time to even the playing field...yes I agree but 100%
Wrong...if Normen was ejected after the slam, no one of this crap would have happened.
What slam??? My word OBJ was out of control from the time he dropped the easy TD.
Stop making excuses

Well apparently you don't watch much Giants football. Because earlier in the year there was a Bills LB who went absolutely nuts and drew back to back unsportsman like penalties. He got so out of hand his own players needed to restrain him. You might want to watch a little more football before making this statement.

Yep that was in their report as well about the bat. Pathetic and panthers own part of this.

ummmmm.....The league just did penalise one of the biggest superstars. We all just saw that. What I was saying is that they won't go back and look at Norman or Finnegan, or the baseball bat nonsense. And it looks like they won't. Why? Because the media narrative isn't focused on those issues. Simple as. If the media were focused on Panther misbehaviour, the league would react. They aren't nearly as interested in the game and the players as they are in PR.
