Bell Final Two

Don't know if I agree. In a player's decision hierarchy:
1. Relationship with the coaches
2. Fit with the team and existing players
3. Facilities, weight room, stadium
4. Academics and majors (for some players this can be #1 or # 2)
5. Is the team a "hot" team like Michigan or tOSU or an up and comer
6. Fanbase - think that fans hold this in much higher regard than recruits.
7. Fanbase internet and social media presence-same as #6

I'm just saying it's sad when you got 50 RU fans wishing Bell well when there is like 1 UMD fan who even cares.

Also, if Bell followed your heirarchy he would be coming here.

Are you saying he has a better relationship with the RU coaches and players than Maryland's? And RU's facilities are better?

I wasnt happy another top NJ kid leaves the state and to a school in our own conference and division. Questios should be more to staff..If there are not wins on field to use in recruiting then what next advantage ,angle are they using to help in recruiting besides playing time to NJ kids?
Point being, there needs to be a NJ tied coach onto staff. This was my concern when the staff was put together. NJ is a unique place to recruit and without a local tie (other then Mantz who is campus only) the staff is at a disadvantage. Relationships take years to build with local high school coaches so an addition like Bobby Acosta or someone his equal is really needed unless the staff wants to wait another recruiting cycle or two to build and establish the relationships statewide with every HS coach staff.. the mindset was to fence the garden, which was correct..but you need the relationships with HS to do that here without 'brand' recognition like OSU or Michigan with wins and tradition .

Yes. Not sure if our facilities are better but they are close.
They won't even be close in the coming years, UM has been updating at a crazy pace due to UA money. RU is bottom half of conference for facilities, and that's okay because we don't have our B1G full share yet

Are you completely dense or are you personally butt hurt with your post... Rick Mantz is pretty good with his connections throughout the state...Bell wasn't coming here ... he used the tease as many have done before in order to acquire the one he's always wanted....funny how OSU finds room and Maryland has 28 verbals not counting the final 2 or 3 in the chute...the way you really pull in this type of player being advised by not family but "strap hangers" is win period... This is Ash's truly 1st class in the cycle.

I wouldn't tweet a HS kid either way but you guys act as if you know the people tweeting him are "adults". It's far more likely they are college kids or other young people. I don't see anything wrong with a 18-20 year old tweeting a 17-18 year old. That's what people that age do. Of course, I could be wrong.

Also, when kids make a spectacle of themselves on social media they are inviting adulation and perhaps the adverse

Durkin is a hell of a recruiter. Named recruiter of the year if I remember correctly.

Folks are saying how great Ash is recruiting after a 2-9 year and it's true but I wonder how much of it is simply the aura of a new staff.

I think Ash is doing great. Recruiting to a 2-9 team is brutal. He got shut out 3 times and still managed to be in the top 30. Durkin is out of this world good, but I wouldn't compare Ash to Durkin that's unfair.

If you look at whole Big Ten, Ash is doing very well. Again we are in a rockstar division. Consider this...

Harbaugh = Ace coach and Ace recruiter
Meyer = Ace coach and Ace recruiter
Dantonio = Ace coach and decent recruiter
Franklin = average coach and Ace recruiter
Durkin = ???? coach and Ace recruiter
Ash = ???? coach and good recruiter
Indiana guy = who gives a crap

So we don't really know what kind of coaches we have in Durkin and Ash right now, but it's clear we have top recruiters in this division.

Pretty easy to see some one tweeting under "John Ryan Sirvan" is an adult. You google his name and it says he is a "50 year old male" from. Caldwell NJ. The other idiot "sblb bbl 07". Is a constant jerk on twitter wrecking the name of Rutgers with his stupidity.

Lastly, this kid did not make a spectical. A news source reported he was down to two choices.....he did nothing on social media.

Like I said, I could be wrong. I could think of a million things I would do before I googled someone's Twitter handle to find out how old they are. I guess you are sure he's an adult. As for social media, anyone on there knows exactly what they're doing. If you're not interested in receiving negative comments just stay off of it.

You just answered your own question in the post you created..its his first cycle so the need for a NJ based coach on staff as an assistant is even greater the first 1-3 years. No need to name call, guess people feeling inferior have that problem?

Most of us RU fans are good on Twitter. The only ones I see getting into arguments with people all the time is SBLC, Brian Bonder and a few others. I think they are all long time RU fans, but just very opinionated.

Where did I name call in the reply ?... DENSE " is an adjective... that is NOT name calling it states a fact of how your whine is old...also ...feelings of inferiority on my part ?... you can rest assured I have no inferiority complex...I just disagree with your belief we need a " coach from New Jersey on staff " who goes out on the road...that scenario has not played out a number of times here... you are aware of that....right ?... Rick Mantz is a great person on the staff though he doesn't recruit off campus...he has tremendous outreach and respect by the entire state of coaches...

Forget Bell. He was never coming here. We have Fogg. And I doubt Maryland fans are harassing Fogg on Twitter.

Maryland already has 4 of the Top 10 2017 In State recruits committed to them ( and One more is a heavy lean).
Rutgers has 2 of the NJ Top 10. We need these players and should be upset if we don't get them.

Corey Bold looks promising and this would be huge for RU.

a better comparison then may be between first time head coaches at Maryland and Rutgers for on field improvement ,results, won loss record and how that translates into recruiting.
Ash vrs DJ Durkin:
Hiring this guy, Aazar Rahin.a Washington DC native with deep local Maryland and DC ties is allowing Durkin, not from Maryland area(hes from OHIO)..to do a great job in recruiting Maryland area.

Abdul-Rahim’s hiring is considered critical for Maryland’s local recruiting efforts under Durkin. While the future of Mike Locksley, the former interim coach who is considered the the area’s dominant recruiter, remains uncertain, Abdul-Rahim has a strong reputation as a local recruiter and helped net a commitment from Avalon wide receiver Trevon Diggs last month.

Abdul-Rahim also has several former Friendship Collegiate players currently on Maryland’s roster. That includes highly touted offensive lineman Derwin Gray, starting linebacker Jermaine Carter Jr. and reserve defensive end Cavon Walker. Another former Friendship Collegiate recruit, junior defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, declared for the NFL draft last week.

Didn't follow this but I'd say if a player enters the public domain willingly i.e. Public Twitter, Rivals/Star ranking in bio, etc then they welcome all interaction.

Wish Coaches and Parents would guide these kids when it comes to social media. They have no problem asking for edits and love all the followers. Comes with the territory. If they don't like the negativity then they need to keep profile in private. BOL to him. I hope we kick his ass the next 4 years. He's the enemy in my eyes.

You nailed it with the Bobby Acosta thing.

They are kids man. If a grown man is tweeting a 17 year old because he didn't come to his school, that guy is a loser. I don't think by having a twitter they consent to being harassed by grown ass men.

Am I mistaken or don't we have a VERY well respected NJ guy as our recruiting coordinator (or something similar)?

Nobody is arguing that. It's just the way it is though and should be expected.

I think the NC as DC carried a ton of sway. Glad the 2-9 didn't totally tarnish that ring, but not sure how long that gleam will hold up to repeated losing seasons.

Expected? OK. But accepted? Nah, the dumass on twitter harassing HS students should face scrutiny.

Agree. Just please be as upset the next time another fan base harasses one of our recruits.

Im not all that upset. I agree in a sense, there are weirdo's in the world, and seemingly even moreso on social media, so recruits should take all this with a grain of salt. And that goes for the praise they receive as well.

Now I'm not a twitter guy, but if I were, ya, I'd be in on harassing opposing fans who harass our recruits.

Yes,good guy,an ex longtime NJ high school coach,Rick Mantz, was head of HS coaches association. Problem is he has restrictions, not a full asst, cant leave campus to recruit.
Mantz and Acosta would be a great Duo for in state and NJ/NYC area.!
