Does anyone know if there is a plan to put flags of all the big ten schools around the north or south end zone? Seems like a cheap thing to do that would add to the overall look of the stadium.
When you are in the top conference in the country you make a point to show it off IMO...flags of Michigan, Ohio St., Nebraska, Iowa, etc. looks a lot better then flags of Memphis, Tulane, UCF, South Florida as it would have shown when we were in the AAC.Did we ever have big east or AAC flags? I can't think of a single football venue that I've been to where the entire conference is showcased...at A&M and Texas, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Kansas State, Clemsin and Baylor (where I've been) they always showcase the visiting team somewhere around the stadium...they may have the entire conference maybe in the AD area...not the football stadium (obviously MD does...)
Should be done immediately, if not sooner.

Well once the Big Ten gives us some of that extra revenue, maybe we'll do it.
I believe I read that this was a big item on the agenda of the Fan Committee & that Rutgers was going forward with it.
The old Yankee Conference used to display the positions of its members from week to week.Flags for all B1G teams in our division should be on one side of the stadium and the western division on the other. Flags should fly in the order of place teams currently hold. The week the Rutgers flag is raised in the pole position (and it will happen one day) it should be made into a huge deal pregame.

I don't like the idea of flying the flags. Too distracting. I prefer the clean look of the stadium as it is now.
Flags are a big part of the Medieval Times tournament showIf done correctly, give it a "knight" feel and add to the theme of or mascot.
How about this: have the 13 schools' emblems painted the scarlet steel roofing on the north end?I don't like the idea of flying the flags. Too distracting. I prefer the clean look of the stadium as it is now.
I just confirmed with someone on the Fan Advisory Board.
This topic WAS brought up at their meeting and Geoff Brown said that it would happen.
Agree that's its a great idea and should have happened yesterday. I will raise the bar and ask what about the rest of campus? EVERY other B1G school has the ALL the conference schools flags/banners hanging in student centers etc around their campuses. I watched the RU vs UM girls ball game on BTN....in the MSU student cafe while there. RU needs to be "ALL IN" and get some school spirit throughout the campuses. The B1G banners should be hanging in all 5 student center lobbies. Werblin/Livi Gym/CookGym/Barn/Loree would also be great places to hang the conference banners. How about the dining halls too?? How about in the YARD.....Cofiffa?
The problem at RU is now you have Athletics-Student Life-Recreation-Dining involved. Who pays for the banners? Who pays for the install? Who pays for their upkeep/replacement? Who decides where they're displayed? The Director of Common Sense needs to get it done.....however, not sure who that is.....[/QUOTE]
I am pretty sure you told me you volunteered for that job...... (email those ideas to Geoff Brown. he is pretty receptive to new ideas and will always get back to you gbrown@scarletknights.com )
Sorry, but this is a bad reference. We shouldn't look to James Madison or the CAA (whatever that stands for) as examples of what should be done at RU. Is that a high school behind the field?JMU flies flags for all the CAA schools. All of the flags are white, with each school's logo in the center. The display is quite clean and uniform and looks great IMO. I think white flags with each B1G school logo would look great at HPSS, maybe on top of the red roof above the north end zone sections
Couldn't find great photos online, but you can click/zoom to see the white flags on top of the visitor side stands:

I'm sorry but there is simply no chance that mounting some flags on the stadium would cost "over 1 million dollars". You're essentially trying to say that putting some flags up will cost the same amount of money as redoing the entire weight room and filling it with all brand new equipment. 0% chance

Are you paying for it or something? Maybe you ought to get rid of the football program because it costs too much. Either that, or get rid of your small conference mentality. How about this: have the 13 schools' emblems painted the scarlet steel roofing on the north end?
It'll cost way too much money to fly the 13 flags. Do you guys have any idea how much it costs to install a flag pole in NJ? It's about $2k per flagpole, $200 per flag (each season), $2k to install each flagpole. That's $55k. Add the 'Special NJ costs' line item and you're looking at over $1 million. That's too much for just some flags.
In case you missed the other thread, we only raised 30 million in six months. And in the short term, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has been running a $25 million deficit that won't be erased until at least 2020. Change things in accordance with Ash's philosophy (which I support): does it help make the team better, or does it make recruiting better? People are going to argue for the latter, but you don't need to spend a ton of money that we don't have on a bunch of flags to drive home what conference we're in. Call it small conference mentality if you want, but I think not digging yourself an unnecessary financial hole is sound. You keep spending money you haven't earned yet and you'll be just like the tons of NFL players on their first contract who declare bankruptcy when they're cut from the roster, never having earned the lucrative second contract. Are you paying for it or something? Yea, I get it. Sorry, I was just being a d**k. And I also think white might be boring. I'd prefer to be able to pick out the flags by their color alone because it might be hard to see the actual logo.I only used it because the flags are all the same color and uniform, which I think would be nice to do here. The pic RobotHunter posted in post 2, with all of the different-color flags looked a little too busy, IMO.
