Sorry!

...but you’re wrong. NOBODY is “fine” with 3 B1G win seasons, however, Most of us do realize the complete overhaul of the program that had to take place here, along with the difficulties that recruiting here has been, to begin with, for the past 30 years. So as long as we see progress within the program and recruiting, which 95% of us do, I’m not sure what else you could ask for at this time.

The guy that is penciled in to be a 25 MPG center is a JUCO who doesn't start on his team and didn't play much in their Final 4 run. I haven't heard 1 fan being concerned. We have a wing who is afraid to shoot and people get upset with the notion that his minutes need to go away and he will score 14 PPG.

I posted in the middle of the season that at the exact point of Rice, Hill and Waters regimes the fan base was either equally enthused or more. People didn't want to agree. they all said it is different this time.

I am a very big fan of this coach. I like what he does with the team defensively. I love how he carries himself and how he treats players and officials. I really want him to succeed. People are down right blind though on what he has done so far with the roster. Maybe the 5+ new guys break the cycle here. Based on what i see sanders or no sanders we have 3 win talent on the roster

It is Greene (Courtney Greene, Ray Rice, Farmer, Inman, Griffin)

Pitt fans wanted Dixon fired because he couldn't get them to a Final 4. Our fans are totally fine with with 3 win B1G seasons. Can't there be some where in between?

Just stop! You're a becoming the alter ego to Rutgers Al with your pessimism.

Greene has always been an honest poster as far as I've seen, he calls it like he sees it. I don't think it of as being pessimistic for the sake of it. I remember he called us beating Seton Hall last season.

Dude I have college hoop-crazy friends all around the country. Guys who have made fun of me, and ripped our program, for the last 2 1/2 decades, relentlessly. The same guys now, for the first time since maybe Quincy Douby, are absolutely in love with our head coach, how our team plays, and the direction of this program so, again, and I say this with all due respect, I think you need to relax a little bit.

Who's penciling Carter in as a 25 mpg center?

@rutgersal has turned negative on ash and rips him most of the time. Just doesn’t like the guy and wants to bring him down. He also was negative on flood at the end.

So i would think Greene rice FAT is posting pretty close to al. Sad!!!

You point out the 5+ new players yourself. He also turned the roster over a lot last year, bringing guys in that could help and turning over a large portion of the roster to do so. All coming off an Eddie Jordan regime that left the roster in an absolute garbage state. As such, I'm not sure what your problem is with the staff. Losing one 3* point guard to a a good team that has been in the NCAA's 16 straight years prior to this season isn't exactly cause for alarm.

As for Shaq Carter, you've brought it up yourself repeatedly, but there's a very good chance he had some kind of injury issue. Look at the minute distribution and its clear that in one of the games something seemed to be wrong.

Al never REALLY was an Ash “fan.” He’ll forever blame Ash for us not hiring you-know-who.

Concerned. :fistbump:

I think Steve can coach. In fact, I know he can coach. I just don’t think he can recruit.

As for pike
Pike, like ash will ultimately be judged based on how they perform in the BIG. How they do in the BIG will be based on how well they recruit and develop.
As of now it’s silly for anyone to rip these guys. Neither are perfect but both have those far improved the programs from where they started. Both programs are moving forward.
Let’s see how next year unfolds.

Before you make your next Debbie downer post can you just remind yourself that Pike took over one of the worst and least attractive jobs in all of D1 basketball.

If you can get past the W and L record, what he has done after 2 full years is unbelievable.

We are literally Knight and Day from the Jordan era which was a debacle other than recovering from the Rice saga.

@Greene Rice FIG relax bro.

You have FIG in your name, commenting on basketball recruiting is probably the last thing you should be doing.

Also, shouldn’t it be FIGG?

Farmer was the only one worth a damn. His dad was a really good guy too.

Elite 8, Semifinal and 3rd place games

I love when people give me an opening!!! How about the following:

FACT - over the last 4 games of the regular season and the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Quarters he AVERAGED 24 mpg

FACT - HE DID NOT PLAY in the "Sweet 16" game vs Trinity Valley

FACT - he then played ONLY 1 MINUTE in the Elite 8 Game vs Barton CC

FACT - he then played 12 minutes in the Semi-Final vs South Plains College

FACT - HE THEN PLAYED 26 MINUTES IN FINAL GAME vs Vincennes University

....so do you think maybe - JUST MAYBE - based on all that information (not just what you chose to pick out...), that he had some sort of injury/illness during that stretch??? I mean I could be wrong, it actually has happened before (lol, I kid...), but makes sense, right?

[cheers][cheers]

One game, Carter had 21 rebounds.....21 seems like a large number.....

There are 30+ games....not every game is going to be 0 points and not every game is 21 rebounds.....there was an average of 8 & 7 over 20-22 minutes per contest.....

It's a sad state of affairs to ignore the 3 games in MSG and say RU won 3 games in the B1G.....I know it's tough to admit fans are wrong, but we played Florida State, who was in the Elite 8.....and has a deep roster full of talented players....

It is like none of these things happened or RU didn't show some signs of improvement, even with a limited roster.

It's also pretty much known 2 years ago that year 3 "could" be a year where there is a step back of sorts.....it was Nigel Johnson, Shaq Doorson, Diallo, Laurent, Freeman all expected to depart after this past season.....and the potential that Sanders, whether ready or not, is a flight risk at any time.

I could always argue that RU should be further along, but I'm more confident now, after seeing the 3 performances where things ended in the B1G tournament vs season finale Illinois.....I'm not saying Greene's concerns aren't completely off base, but ignoring the positive items, with no supporting documentation, is baseless.

yawn re Greene...there is always at least 1 person who goes out of his/her way to be a board contrarian...you can predict what Greene will post it's become that obvious...nothing of substance.

Does recovering from a debacle with a debacle really mean you're recovering at all? Or have you just perpetuated a debacle in a different manner?

I would not call Pike’s 1st two years a debacle. It is the most I’ve enjoyed RU b-ball in god knows when.
I was talking about the Rice debacle followed by the Jordan debacle. So basically you've just perpetuated the debacle just in a different manner. I too have had fun watching basketball again instead of turning the games off at halftime. Just something now, even when they're down tells me there's a chance they might just come back. So I keep watching.

NJH,

I know both of us see a lot of the same things. You know my thoughts about what the staff has done defensively. My kenpom posse can demonstrate what this program has accomplished defensively.

Yes I am a contrarian. There is no to little balance about the programs view here. If everyone was negative about Pikiell and players I’d be the one bringing out the positives.

With the exception of Freeman driving my crazy (like Rosario did Year 2) I am very positive at games. I am a very good fan.

With all that being said I have serious doubts. Fortunately, unlike the past 3 coaches. I really like this guy. In addition, there a lot of players on this team very easy to root for.

It didn’t have to be. I said it now and said it at the time the mistake Pikiell made was keeping Shoes.

This is a very strong staff at the moment. Players like Knight because of his age. I do not think he is the best coach on the staff, and probably fourth best. Makes sense given the experience.

Pikiell right now is probably recruiting at a C+ rating. Again, he is in a tough spot, and is doing a very good job.

Us fans do not solely have to rely on Carter. I wonder why his past games have been inconsistent given the minutes/production. Luckily, Myles Johnson will be able to chip in as well. Carter will not be looked to play 25+ minutes plus.

That is so wrong and not fair. I have been on the money consistently for a LONG time.

Did I not get killed early in Year 1 talking about Rice?
I got killed bashing Rosario as a selfish player?
I was saying Jordan was a joke early and got killed.
I have many more examples.
