But then, I find out that we lost at least 3 additional games yesterday! How the hell did that happen?!?!

What I found out
First one is interesting as it really doesn't have much to do with us...but I found out that Portland State is as good as Cal. I mean, you know, they both beat WSU by the same amount.

Then, I thought maybe something good- MSU looks beatable. Man, Purdue really gave them quite a game! - then the dread- dammit, we are worse the Purdue - Even freaking Purdue has passed us!!!!!

Indy - they actually do look better then I thought they would but then there is hope for our game against OSU, right? I mean look, they are only slightly better then the teams Indy has beaten...Southern Ill,, Western Kentucky, Wake Forest...

OSU- See above- that is crazy! you can't compare how one team does against another to determine how good they really are! Anyone that does that is not a realist and is delusional! Plus, OSU is allowed to have a few bad days.

Wisc - I saw the score and said- hmmm maybe we have a shot. But then, I remember - We are not Iowa, we are more like Mia-Oh, Troy and Hawaii.

Mich- dammit- I hate Harbaugh, good thing he is coaching the Colts next year

Nebraska - So, here is our break- they barely beat S. Miss and lost to Ill!!! yay! But dammit, you know they only had a couple of bad games and will improve before we see them. And you know damn well, we will only get worse

Army - They have kept their 4 losses close. Mark this as a loss. No way we can beat them...This is really getting depressing

Maryland - ahh obvious win at the end of the year. Whew...but noooo, it is the last game of the year and they have all this time to improve and figure out who they are. HCRE will figure out how to get his team ready to beat us. He always does, even at UConn. You guys know, he has our number- Hasn't he beaten us just about every time we have faced since 2005!!!! We have no chance guys!!!

So, it looks like my Saturday's have freed up for 2015. It really depresses me as a fan though. Usually I love the fall because every week, I wake up on a Saturday and am excited for a possible win. I guess that is the fan in me. But since the season is over already, I will just lay money down for our losses and just cash in for retirement.

Don't worry, RU can beat Texas.
Too bad they aren't on the schedule.

Yea Yesr (yer sarcasm is dripping), the difference this year between the haves and the have not's is very small. There are a couple elite teams at the moment and a lot of teams who are separated by a very small margin. I just looked over the stats for MSt. They have 6 int's which I believe is why they have won games that looked close. Our Offensive and defensive #'s are much alike. Cept our penalty's are way out in front. Statistically we are as close as it gets so Mich St may be a very interesting game if we have no TO's and few drive killer or drive alive penalties!
As for the games you so expertly reviewed I have to agree we are doomed!

The team has the talent to win games the rest of the way in and compete.

However, if they play how they played for the past few games they will not win more then 1-2. This team is clearly not playing to its potential.

Need to improve and get better.

You can't wake up Saturday excited for a win because others have formed an opinion we're not very good?

That's why I included "message board" in my comment. If you think emotional, sometimes irrational posts are inappropriate, you're in the wrong place. All your OP does is continue to divide the board.

There is good news. Football teams win in cycles. Baylor didn't become a winner until Art Briles moved from Houston to Baylor in 2008. RG3 committed to Houston but decided to go to Baylor with Briles. Baylor didn't have a winning season since 1995 before Briles. In 2008 and 2009, Baylor went 4-8 even with RG3 playing both years. In 2010, Baylor went 7-5 but lost to Illinois in the bowl game. In 2011, Baylor went 10-3 and RG3 won the Heisman Trophy. It's history after that.

The moral of the story is that Rutgers won't always be on the bottom. We had a winning cycle when Schiano was here. The coach and right QB is the starting point of turning a program around. The Briles Rg3 story sounds a lot like the Strong Bridgewater story.

I noticed the good coaches take about 3 years to turn around a program.

Kevin Sumlin move from Houston to Texas A&M got them on their winning ways in 2012 with Johnny Manziel. Mike Sherman during 2008 to 2011 hadn't done much.

What I don't understand is why folks have written off the season and are apoplectic. Consider this line in the analysis of the Arizona State UCLA game:
"But the Arizona State defense, which had not been anything special through the first month of the season, stopped the UCLA run game. The Bruins had just 62 yards on the ground."

Can something like this happen for Rutgers? I believe it can, because I don't give up after the first sign of trouble like the sky is falling crowd. Now I will wait for them to chime in and call me a Flood lover, Flood apologist, and that I accept mediocrity, and listen to the Wahhhmbulance drive by.

What I don't accept is a loser's mentality.

And one more thing, maybe most of Michigan's State's defense was because of Narduzzi. There is this analysis of Pitt:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/winners-and-losers--200913687.html

"Pittsburgh’s defense: Either you side with the stance that Virginia Tech’s offense just isn’t very good, or that Pat Narduzzi has that Pittsburgh defense doing some things. We’re siding with both, but it doesn’t take anything away from how impressive the Panthers looked during a 17-13 win. The numbers for the Hokies were bleak. They were held to 100 yards of offense, and just nine rushing yards. Entering the day, Pittsburgh’s defense ranked 17th in the nation. Last year the Panthers finished 26th, so if they can keep up this pace, maybe Narduzzi really is the guy to turn things around there."

Pitt would rip Ohio State on the law of transitive wins and losses.

That's what you got out of his post?

That's not what I got.
Yes said "since the season is over I'll just lay money down and cash in on our loses"
I realize it is sarcasm and I know Yes is a great fan, I also know he's a knowledgable enough fan to refute the negatoids and tell us why we have a chance to all of a sudden play well.
Something other than the basic generic anything can happen or upsets do take place…tell us what were going to?
In order to win we're going to have to pressure the QB, cover receivers down field, stop the run, punt the ball well, not turn the ball over and have minimal penalties, not to mention use times outs wisely and not play conservative.
Besides blind hope, what makes you think any of that is going to take place?
I'm prepared to see none of it, support the kids and their efforts and enjoy the tail gate…I have no reason to believe we can win Saturday night.
Call me a miserable fan, I've been at it for 40 years.

zap, I don't think you are a miserable fan. Hell, I am surprised you are such a long time and loyal fan considering you don't have a direct connection to RU.
As a blue sky fan, even I have concerns that the coaches will continue with the same game plans and schemes that don't work, which will not put RU in a position to win. My biggest concern is the ability of our DL to pressure the QB. There, I said that, which is the most negativity you will see out of me.
What I can't stand is the bye week transitive victory/loss theorists predicting more gloom for Rutgers. Yesrutgers absolutely nailed it and turned the tables.
Michigan State looks vulnerable . Rutgers has been vulnerable. It's a hope game. it's a blackout. Hopefully the coaches and the team will bring their A game along with the crowd.

And whatever we do--don't play "In the Air Tonight" over the PA. That song is a freaking curse.

I agree that some of our fans can be totally negative and continue to post the same crap every day and every hour. I try not to be so negative but I'm sure there are some that say I am 100 % negative. The Blue Sky crowd tried to stop all the negative comments for a long time.

There's no question an A crowd will be there, and I'll be part of it as usual. Should be a great atmosphere. Offense is great to have, but I'm a believer the crowd feeds more off of rock solid defense and making stops, your toughness and edge is formed by the defense.
Can I go to sleep Friday night thinking were going to be nasty and physical on defense? I wish I could.
I sure am hoping we have a lot to cheer about Saturday, it's up to the team to feed us.

Dave- you are ok. I am fine with guys that are obvious fans who may be down but will at least discuss the team and game. Zap- Knight shift nails it, like everyone else, I do fear our coaches may not change it up- though, I did see hints of it changing against Kansas. And to answer your point- what do we have to do...well, watch the Wisconsin/Iowa game. It was all about pressure on both QB's and turnovers.
Anyone else who really thinks my OP was deciding the board or inflammatory- realize something...I was trying with sarcasm and humor to bring some of our "fans" away from the cliff who are usually hopeful each week...and not the "realists, negatoids" or whatever you want to call them...who gives a rats ass.

The irritating part is posting the same stuff. It sure seems like there are posters who say to themselves "what hasn't been bitched about since yesterday?" and then rehash it.

There's indeed a lot to question and bitch about but there's a point where you're just beating a dead horse. I believe a lot of it is ego and the need to have people agree with you.

One thing for sure....Saban's 20% gets blown out of the water here.

Our coaching staff is brutal. Until that changes, not necessarily new coaches just better game plan, then everything else is irrelevant

Maybe they all work for Kevin Manahan and NJ.Com.
The funnier thing to me is those that accuse the non-negative posters of being Flood supporters or tolerating mediocrity. I consider it more to be about behaving with a little bit of class, not fanning the flames, and supporting the team.

I 100% agree with you, our only chance to win is with defense, as I said above it's what ignites the crowd it strikes fear into the opposition. Do we have the talent to do that?

If the coaches do their job, RU can win games. Players need direction and when you see some seemingly "bad" teams somehow rise up and bite somebody in the ass, it is due to them believing they can win and good game preparation.
Our game plans so far have not been stellar. Two weeks to prepare for the next game and the opportunity to watch them struggle should have a real positive effect.

I want to know if you consider that post non-supportive and fanning flames?…If I was a player reading that I'd want to shut my hole, I would not cry our fans suck

Lmao..the OP making this thread continues to ignite the flames and divide. Fact is yesterday showed that yes weaker teams can be competitive with better teams...will we? Past history says we will not but we can always hope and we will have our answer though next week and the board will once again be at its throats with one side claiming victory and one in denial

I have to agree that anything can happen in FB. IF,the coaches put in the correct schemes and if the players are motivated to execute them to the best of their ability, then good things can happen. Will that be the case with RU? Let's wait and watch and we will see.

I posted after you without reading your post. Totally agree with what you say.Schemes and execution bring results.

So, are you saying that if we lose, some like yourself will claim "victory"? If we lose, I will not be in denial, I will be disappointed. If the coaches try some things but we are outmatched, then what the hell can we do? If the coaches don't change things and we get slammed, then I will be pissed and disappointed. And guess what, Sunday morning, I will be cheering for this team to win next week. Sorry dude but anyone that wants to claim victory after a loss, sucks.
And do you think my OP divides or ignites? You realize that not a damn thing I wrote is my opinion but comments made by others or thought process that I saw yesterday.

"past history"- is not reflective of future experience--and in any event last year we went 8-5.

well some will say bac, areyounuts and nirh are a big reason for that divide

Yeah ... Didn't we have like a 10+ year down cycle? Always lost to top teams in Big East after a good first year. Are we in for another 10 years of beat downs in another bad cycle?

And the one time I try to post an OP in total agreement with our negative friends- the same guys don't like it and I am dividing the board...hmmmmmm

Gotcha. The problem is positive fans. They are such trouble-makers. They are the ones dividing the board with their sarcastic posts about all the negativity on this board.

Did you pass reading comprehension. ..I said BOTH sides

yesrutgers, yes, let's whitewash that our program is a trainwreck right now, our coach is suspended for negating the one good quality I ever thought he might possess (integrity), our lockdown CBs are all in lockdown and the top 4 remaining are all frosh, our more talented QB is sitting on the bench with no prospect of playing other than an injury or egregiously bad play by the starter, our OLs and DLs are losing the battles at the line of scrimmage (except against the bottom of the barrel teams), our best offensive talent is suspended and who knows if/when he'll be back this year, our D can't even line up properly at times, and our O is unimaginative and uninspiring. Other than that, all is well with the world.

Probably most depressing is the thought that nobody in the B1G is unbeatable this year, even the mighty tOSU and MSU, just unbeatable by us due to the trainwreck described above.

Like Zappaa, I will be there next Sat night rooting like crazy against MSU, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to be realistic about the current state of the program.

I'll remember this post when I'm reading "what did you expect with all the arrests, injuries and suspensions" What did you expect sounds completely negative , like we should have zero expectations.
