I have been looking at outdoor chair cushions and for some reason they are very expensive. That got me thinking, do you think an exercise mat is good enough to be a chair cushion? They come in all different colors and look like they can be cut easily to have a custom fit in a chair.

You'll never be able to get an even cut without a band saw.

The cut edges will expose the foam inside, which absent the plasticized covering will deteriorate and look generally shitty.

Unless you're shooting for a photo spread in next month's issue of "Trailer Park & Garden", I would not recommend.

Okay, got it. I thought the exercise mats were foam rubber without a plasticized covering. What I am doing is restoring some old home made wood patio chairs. Grinding the old paint off, sanding and gluing and coating the chairs plus seat covers will probably be more expensive than buying brand new chairs with seats. I was trying to skimp on the seat cushions otherwise I may as well get brand new chairs for less.

Color coordinated duct tape is your friend here. lol

look up thermarest at EMS or rei. They have pretty cheap foam and inflatable seat pads.

Check out Lowes. They had lots of garden/patio items on sale over the weekend at 75% off, including some outdoor cushions.

I will check out Lowes tomorrow to see what kind of seat cushions they have.

OP's idea is right up there with "your seat cushion can be used as a flotation device." Sounds okay in theory, but not very practical.

The best part of the new website config. is that posts like these stick around for much longer. It's like the gift that keeps on giving!

Why spend money on a mechanic when you have a can of pringles? *bonus tip: eat all the pringles first. Waste not, want not.
