Carino: Brandin Knight an option for RU

Do we Need a big man coach ? I'll have to check if Pikiell had a coach designated for big men coach at Stony Brook.

There have been implications that for the right individual the budget for assistant coaches could be increased. I think Hobbs is a very good acquisition by RU. I also like Knight a great deal. My guess is RU would find the additional money necessary to have both Hobbs and Knight on staff. I do not think money will be the issue. I believe the challenge would be stature. Would someone at the level of Knight desire to potentially be considered "subservient" to Hobbs. If Knight were truly interested this is an issue that can be creatively addressed so that neither Hobbs nor Knight would be slighted, and they both would receive substantial opportunities to demonstrate their strengths as coaches. My guess is it is an unlikely result, but you never know. RU is in a geographical area that plays into the recruiting strengths and connections for both guys. We are in a strong conference that has never been particularly focused upon recruiting the northeast. If the money is there, Knight might perceive the opportunity to be a critical and well paid member of a strong staff to be intriguing. I like the Hobbs hire a great deal. Adding Knight would make this a very compelling staff. One can hope.

There was and will always be posters with connections coming on this board, but there also are those who see things differently that don't have a connection to anyone.
Also there are those who don't like being disagreed and look for reasons to discredit those they disagree with.
Then there are those who enjoy a friendly debate and push their POV and enjoy being over the top at times

.

No doubt there are all sorts of types here, however, read what I originally said: the guys I'm talking about are the "hit-and-run" types and there have been plenty.

Well Hobbs is the Associate HC. Could Knight by the #1 Asst still? Or is the Associate HC title in lieu of a #1 asst role?

I have a bunch of coaching specifics that are not "locks" but may materialize....

Knight may be targeting the HC job at Columbia that just opened up the day after Smyth and Columbia won the CIT tourney over Cal-Irvine......Smyth left for the San Francisco job which was available and provided upgrades Columbia couldn't offer....I would not be surprised if Knight interviewed or perhaps believes he has a better than 50/50 shot, but I would probably wait for a better job to target, Columbia is local, but isn't exactly a job that I think can be sold easily on the recruiting trail, even for kids capable of Ivy basketball and schoolwork.....I would take the RU or another Power 5 assistant job before I take the HC job at Columbia, especially if the compensation is relatively the same.

There are some "interesting" names circulating for the UAB job.....Jason Terry was reportedly interested, but there was a pretty dialed in person that had another "known" name linked to UAB....if that name pops up, it would be a familiar name for basketball fans in the south and NBA as well.

I believe Lornegan is being targeted by GTECH....Jeff Capel is supposedly interested as well.

If there was a way you could convince a Knight and Karl Hobbs to be on the same staff for even one season, it would make a huge impact.....I don't think it's possible, but part of sales is convincing or laying out a likely scenario or path towards what can be accomplished. Knight for all of his talents, is still associated with Pitt and Jamie Dixon and having him deliver at another "name" school would be the truest ticket towards a solid HC gig, vs. settling for one that you may not succeed at.

Well Knight is not getting the Columbia job. I wonder what happened with Jay Young? Still no announcement on the SBU job.
