Carino: Unfinished Business for Geo

Damn, Lou! That’s a 5-star post.
Ironically, those two institutions muzzle their students so they can’t express any of their opinions - “leaders” are only tolerated if they express the viewpoints of their institutions. Disagree with Geo if you want, but he’s got great leadership skills and he got a meeting with the NCAA president. He developed those leadership skills at Rutgers and he grew as person and a student. Isn’t that what a university education is all about?

So don’t watch the team Kyk and Cali if Geo offends you that much. It’s none of anyone’s business but theirs.
as an adult its fairly easy to root for players on the court and think theyre being childish off it. People like you are the issue in society. In your world if you disagree with someone, go scorched earth on them. I’ll still root for him on the court if he wears the RU jersey but until he starts acting like an adult off the court its hard to support how hes acting.

Disagreement with you does not mean he’s not acting like an adult.

Lol I’m far from “the issue” in society.

Im all for people fighting for what they want but do so in an adult manner. Hes approaching this in the worst way possible. Whining, complaining, saying hes treated like a slave, using emoji’s about an issue hes apparently serious about. Hes acting like a petulant privileged child, in large part because he is
Criticize Geo on the court all you want, you see him play. What do you know about him off the court? All the privileged people I know only help themselves. Geo worked hard to build up two basketball programs, helping with everything from recruiting to being a coach on the floor. He took care of his mother with cancer while working as much as he could, finishing school, and playing and coaching. I've lost count of the number of parents who have thanked his family for how much he has helped their kids, most recently at the Houston game. He's just continuing what he's always done, helping people.

Geo is NOT coming back to be a bench player

If he comes back it is to build the Geo brand with whatever NIL income he can generate.

Does he hoist up more shots and become more selfish as a player to accomplish that? Does that make the team better?

I would love to see geo come back and have a monster season. He needs to have the passion for Rutgers basketball. If that’s what drives him he should come back. He can obviously have other goals and things he’s passionate about that’s fine. But if the passion isn’t there for ru hoops he should get on with life because it won’t work.

I’m reading that as, he quickly is learning his likeness is worth squat and wants to stay on the ride one more year after all.

I rather he leave. He is going to be a distraction.
Do you always see athletes that play for Rutgers through the prism of your politics? It's really a bad look.

Disagreement with you does not mean he’s not acting like an adult.
Let me know the next time youre trying to negotiating a deal and tell your boss publicly hes treating you like a slave, use emojis to make fun of him on twitter and publicly blast them with pure rage porn

The same people who are critical of Geo, don't want to know the impact for the Women's Final Four or are not aware of the changes and improvements the NCAA has already agreed they dropped the ball on.

Instead of making this about a selfish NIL item, these meetings are creating long overdue changes and improvements to the sport. It's too bad fans are not willing to focus on that.

And these same fans will be the 1st ones calling Pike out, if Geo left and we didn't win as many games next year. Like it or not, Geo is a player who leads on and off the court and RU is more likely to get back to the NCAAS next year with him, vs him transferring out and helping someone else's program.

What I know about him off the court is what he puts out into the public ether. Its okay for me and you to disagree but to me its evident hes acting like a child while pretending to want to get adult things done

Is your guy with "University of Rutgers" & "I'm out"......still your standard of excellence, leadership and being about "adult things" and representing what you want as the leader of your program??......the double standards are laughable....

That’s a crazy analogy. There is no negotiation going on, first of all. You have to have two people willing to negotiate

They don't.

Why do I have to value Rutgers athletes over-and-above their entertainment value and ability to represent me (as an alumnus)?

Be still my beating heart. *swoon*
I still don’t get this represent you business. Rutgers is not a candidate for public office. It is a university you went to and molds students in copious ways. Does that not mean anything to you? You sure are a demanding alumnus.

Any time you are about to get a seller agree to let you rep them, have you show them your twitter history and rivals message board posts? I’m sure they’d have some reservations.

It's impossible. The margins are too small at this level. Notice all the guys leading this are guys whose teams are all out of the tournament.

YOu know who isn't interested in this stuff? Gonzaga players.

To be in the final four players can’t have any other interests guys. That’s why we haven’t been since ‘76, someone finally cracked the code. This is very serious, you need to tell Pikiell this ASAP.

When I first read the response letter Geo put out after Emmett said they would meet in two weeks (saying they were disappointed repeatedly) my first thought was it sounded like 90% of reply posts on this board

NEWSFLASH: Athletics Departments (specifically Football and Mens Basketball) exist to attract a larger applicant pool and to make the university money. It makes the university money by increasing alumni ($$$) engagement. Happy alumni are money-donating alumni. The athletes at the school represent the school and, by proxy, the school's alumni. If the university doesn't think so, they can stop calling me four times a year begging for money.

What politics? You guys think this team was playing cohesively?

What legit captain, before the biggest game in 30 years discusses with the other team protesting the game because he’s that out of touch with how good he has it.

If we somehow made the Sugar Bowl this fall and the captain pulled the same stunt I’d blast that kid too. Politics have nothing to do with this asinine likeness argument.

His likeness is so valuable yet he’s trying to come back for another year of slavery? Which one is it kid?

Ironically - there could be a path to solve the portal problem. The NCAA could grant a one time earning waiver for next year, but limit the applicability to kids who had played with their team the previous season to ensure no recruiting element to the earning.

You want to know what’s unprofessional? Trying to delay and delay an important conversation that has been requested for weeks. Attempting to pay off people to receive a favorable decision in court. Lying about the requests given to them and trying to limit the other side’s amount of voices. Perhaps the slavery comparison was immature, but besides that your criticisms of Geo are completely irrelevant and have given a blind eye to the NCAA. Wonder why someone would defend a corporation over a person, but i guess I shouldn’t expect difference from this board.

You can stand up for what you believe and still give your all in the game.
When it comes to having a problem that fogs your mind so it detracts from your best effort even though you give 100%, add relationships, family matters , academic problems and many other things besides the NIL fight.
And if you point out how the NIL fight for rights is the reason why schools didn't make the final 4: you just admitted most college basketball player are leading that charge.
As for the final four players , tell us, who among them has spoken out against it and how many on roster are not involved one way or another.
Just because players are not on the national leadership level, doesn't mean they don't support NIL in the locker-room.
Also if RU had a locker-room problem, it doesn't mean the NIL fight was the reason..

He never said he was “so valuable”. Not once. I think some of you don’t realize what passing up a year ~100k in overseas ball means financially to some of these kids. I mean seriously, if money was no object, we’re talking about a kid who eat sleeps and breathes Rutgers. Does anyone doubt this? I don’t understand why so many people can’t understand that being able to bring in a small about of money to help him mother, etc. while attending school for another year could help justify the decision to give up an overseas salary. Why is this such a terrible rationale to fight for?

You know damn well that he almost immediately recanted on the use of the word slave. Yet you keep bringing it up over and over. He seems to have some pretty big hitters (senators) listening to and working with him. Not bad for a ”child”.

Would those posts being presented to prospective sellers hurt affect* your ability to do your job? No. But would it hurt your ability to retain and expand your customer base? Definitely. So for you to criticize Geo for his online activity is laughable.

“Cute try tho.” What a clueless a*****e lol.

Haha cute strawman. Youre really pounding him. Talk about trying to compare an apple to an orange. Whoof. Good effort though

My concerns are not the NIL issue. I just don't think he is that good. Add to that he is going to be the captain and he doesnt really play hard defensively and when he is in a defensive position to take a charge he doesn't.

He shot 29.4% from 3 last year and 30.3% this year. That just isn't good enough.

I was hoping we upgrade his position in the portal.
