CBS Sports talking about RUs failures

This is pretty telling:

But Steve Pikiell's 2024 portal haul will go down as the worst of any high-major team. There are 79 high-major teams in college basketball now that Oregon State and Washington State have been forced to ship off to the West Coast Conference. Marquette is the only one that didn't take a transfer in the 2024 portal cycle. Seventy-seven other programs had at least one transfer average more than seven points per game.
Rutgers is the lone outlier.

and it is not just about roster building but also player utilization, game planning/preparation, and game day coaching. He may be great at player development but one could even argue that that is a good debate. Oh well. If you think it was disappointing this year (again) put on your seat belts.

Thanks for posting. I think he was too kind to Derkack. I admit that against mid-majors, Derkack looked good on defense. But against the stiffer competition and Princeton, he didn't get it done. Having watched him for a full season, it's crazy to think he was defensive POY in a mid major conference. And how many turnovers did he have with errant passes?
I hope he can improve in the off season because it seems like he is going to be an important piece next year.

How does Rutgers attract difference make type recruits from the transfer portal after such a disaster of a season?Wishful thinking isn't the answer.
the $$$$$$$$$.. That's it. Support NIL and we will get all the pieces we need

ignoring it does not change anything. we are in a new era of basketball. Spencer left for money, Cliff left for money, etc...

we need $5M just to be relevant. SEC schools are paying every single player on the roster all six figures.

i'm going to miss the quadruple head fakes in the paint vs 6' 9" dudes after he picked up his dribble

did he even play in the last game?

I think Merrimacks conf is ranked either 31 or 32 out of 32 conferences so in fairness it’s not even mid major. Seems to make it worse though.

this article isn't sucking pikes balls so you don't want anything to do with it

What an embarrassment this year was
I don't want to read any articles, ball sucking or otherwise.

Actually, Pike ball sucking fan fiction is at the bottom of my list, but you do you.

Few things........

1. The run that brought us back in to the game came when Harper was on the bench
2. Harper got absolutely toasted off the dribble in the 2nd to last possession of the game and shot an air ball in the last possession.

I don't want to hear it Harper had nothing to do with the loss. He was getting beat all day defensively. Defense and offense are equally important.

We do not need 5 mil in NIL to be relevant. Stop peddling this BS. Every team in the tournament has a 5 mil NIL endowment? Every team in the big ten? This is nonsense. We need a coach that can scheme offense and identify the next tier of talent in the transfer portal. We could've easily gotten someone that can contribute to our team vs the dead cost of acquiring a guy like Martini (who did better the previous year with a real HC)

Pike deserves every bullet he’s gonna take in the media, no doubt this season was a massive disappointment/failure.

What bugs me is that while I grow tired of reading every single article pointing this out (duh, we already know), others seem all too giddy to post them all.

Boomer and Recco we're talking to NIL this morning and Boomer said she doesn't contribute anymore to Maryland because players coming in for one year and leaving for a bigger bag

Funny how nobody considers the source. CBS byline but just another hack with a keyboard.

“Isaac is a national college basketball writer for 247Sports. He previously covered Illinois for 247Sports and also spent time covering preps in Rochester, Minnesota.”

National writer? Cut his teeth covering high school ball in MN. Impressive. Virtually nobody outside this board is reading this. Nobody cares.

Even the Pikes supporters acknowledge the fail in roster construction. He owns it but it doesn’t relegate Rutgers to perpetual darkness.

That’s the key, easy to jump on Pike, but would love to know our NIL rank and money available vrs all the Power Conference teams.
We knew we couldn’t retain Cliff.
We know St. John’s dwarfing us locally.

You are delusional. you are not coming to grips with reality. $4-5M is the minimum to be a top 25 team. Maryland for example, got a $10M donation just for mens basketball.

The good news with the house legislation coming up is all of it will be somewhat stabilized in 2026-2027 season pending legal challenges. The bad news is every single school will be emptying their "war chests" by july 1st this year. this season will be nuts.

Based on this, expect the same season maybe worse.

Probaby worse. If we retain all of our eligible players, get two high-impact starters to replace Dylan and Ace (which is doubtful), and retain Pike (which is a given), we will again be battling just to get into the B1G tournament.

Flux. You do know you don't have to click or read them, right?
Hey man. It is now the official off season for Rutgers basketball and football. This will die down eventually but what else are folks supposed to do for now? Just sit back again and watch the other teams play post- season? Frankly this is deserved. Be men and take the licking (no pun intended!)

Nowhere does it say I was happy to post it. I just thought if some didn’t see it they might like to. You just want to pretend no one is noticing nationally.

yes, fair take. IMO.

You just said it was the offseason and what else are we supposed to do. I found the article interesting and thought to post it. So you’re saying if I don’t have anything I realistically positive to say or post I shouldn’t? You think I take joy in knowing we’re a national joke

no that is not at all what I was saying. I was saying content (good or bad) is good to read given no game threads and a team to follow right now in the post season. relax. my fair point was in regard to any posters being giddy over it and I wasn't meaning you. Just i general.

(1) Yes but
(2) put it in his other thread about the same general topic. We don't need an individual thread for every random article

I have no idea how you can come to the conclusion that I “just want to pretend no one is noticing nationally” when I literally said that Pike deserves every bullet he’s going to get in the media.

My point is that you (and maybe others) seem to have made it your agenda to scour every corner of the internet for negative Rutgers bball articles and run here to post them all. For what? Information we all already know.

I think the part of the fanbase that is very critical of Pike at this point (my self included) will continue to emphasize what a bad job he has done recently until it either improves or he’s fired, particularly because we are trying to convince the others in the fanbase who still deny that he’s even doing a bad job

also fair (hey what can I say, I'm a Libra).

That’s fair, and I can understand that.

I also have soured on Pike drastically. But I’m very pragmatic. We don’t yet have a new President, which means we likely haven’t even started a search for a new AD. And Pike’s buyout is massive. So him getting fired now is 99.999999% not gonna happen. I’m just not into screaming at the sky all day for no outcome.

Any effort to convince other people in the fan base to do anything should be fundraising for NIL if they want different results, not turning on Pike for the reasons stated above.

I am sorry......if i was starving and someone gave me food and then continued to feed me for a few weeks. Then gave me steak (that he went out and got) I wouldn't complain that my carrots were undercooked.

So many fans on this board are fans PRIMARILY because of Pike.
