Not trying to beat a dead horse, but I was looking at some stats and it looks like we only beat out Kent State, FIU, Idaho, and Bowling Green through 3 games for quarterback play. Amazing that a Big 10 program is in a position where after 3 games we are still calling him the starting quarterback.

CL is also one of only 24 Quarterbacks who through 3 games has a negative Total EPA (as I understand it its basically a measure of how many points you gained or lost by playing that player vs playing a scarecrow )

Ash knows he's not the guy! But this is what Flood left you. I hope people are finally seeing this. Ash needs to implement his own recruits and it will take 3 years or more before we see a solid team on the field. If he does it before then, he's a genius.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but…
Proceeds to beat dead horse. I realize I'm picking on you when this is really more of a societal issue at large but the use of qualifying statements like this is one of my pet peeves. The worst of these qualifiers is "I don't want to sound racist, but…" you know the next thing out of their mouth is gonna be racist and they should just shut their pie hole. It's almost like you've just given yourself permission to be the thing you claiming you don't want to be.

I'd much prefer people to own their words and demonstrate self awareness, I.e. "I realize this is beating a dead horse but I think it is an important stat to consider…"

Go to the threads before the Michigan game in 2014 and we were beating up Nova. We know what happened in that game. I am hoping for the same this this week.

Oh yeah, well I would look at the guy who can throw, and spread out
that defense. What's the harm Laviano has proved for 2 years now
he can't play, undisciplined with his behavior on and off the field. what would
have happened if he let Rettig go a quarter against Howard. What? this head coach
better get his head out of his Ash.

Jeez give it a rest already. Same old song and dance for you over and over.

My sister in law is famous for this, starts out a large majority of her convos with "not to offend you, but.. or not to sound mean, but." then proceeds to offend the person.

Personal favorite:
"Not to be a dick, but . . . "
Effective cutoff--"But you are going to be a dick anyway!"

Thanks for tip.
This is going to be somewhat racist... In addition to low rating, Lav is slow and I'm not sure he can out run the dead horse that was mentioned....

Sorry, can't do that if he is in, I will show my dismay. this anger is not about him
it about the young coaches, that every one is praising, but I hope the
growing pains won't go on forever.

Top 1AA team beat Iowa last week. I'm sure we out recruited them. I would think CL had a better ranking than their QB coming out of HS. Maybe it comes down to getting the most out of what you got? Here's to hoping Coach Ash can pull a rabbit out of his hat. Go RU.

You mean the same FCS team whose last QB is starting for the Eagles and is breaking NFL records, that team?

I'm pretty sure the QB that helped beat Iowa last week was Easton Stick from Omaha who was offered by RU very late in the process and you guys were not happy that the coaching staff was reaching for some FCS commit. The kid is a very good player.

FYI, Wentz went 4-2 as the starter for NDST before being injured. His back-up, Easton Stick, finished the season and playoffs 8-0.

I didn't know it was that bsd

I was about to say the same thing.

I think the coaches need to forget about dipping their toe in the water, just pick another QB and give the guy a real chance over several games. That stat shows we are literally at the point where the replacement really can't be any worse.

Why does this even need a thread. It's a below average QB who is 3 games into a completely new system. Our top guy is a former defensive coordinator, our OC is 28, our linemen are average at best, and our receivers are below average at best.

What part of that did you think would lead to mediocre QB play? Only time will change this.

How is it possible for a P5 program to have 3 P5 level QBs sitting on the bench and not one of them is better than the 120th best QB in the country?!
Laviano has some serious dirt on Rutgers and knowing Rutgers they are sh*tting their pants to make a move. This is bigger than Jimmy Hoffa buried at the Meadowlands. [roll][roll][roll]

Remember that stat is against 1 very good team, 1 doormat, and 1 mid level g5.

This stat is going go from atrocious to funny (at some point there's no choice?) In the next month.

It's a symbolism over substance thing. Laviano won Ash over when he was doing film study every day before Spring Practices started, and non of the other QB's followed suit. Ash said this after the Spring Game.

A couple of people here have said that Lav is lites out good in practice. You usually win the job by showing you can do it in practice. He obviously isn't doing the same thing during games, but other QBs may not be ready because they aren't getting the need prep reps with each week with the game plan. This is a catch 22.

Interesting perspective. It looks like we are now at the point where game performance will become the standard for which QB's see game action. But with three very tough B1G games up next can Ash and Mehringer trust any of the backups to give them major minutes ?

The thought of Gio, Allen or Oden facing Iowa, OSU and Michigan with so little game action to date is a little scary. Could Laviano be the safest choice for the coaching staff for the next 3 games ?

He misses his receivers too often. He over throws short passes. He routinely turns the receiver around when they are forced to adjust to bad passes. This takes them out of stride (especially on the short swing passes) and allows recovery time for the defense. He constantly throws very badly off his back foot even when there is no pressure. I could go on, but I want to know what part of "below average at best" receivers forces his bad throws and footwork?

Also, I don't believe that we have mediocre receivers. Good QB play elevates everyone on the offense. It mostly seems that what good plays that we have are despite Laviano. He is not elevating anyone at this point. Hopefully the light goes on for him this weekend.

Like I said, this is a catch 22. You may be right.

Thank you Kyle Flood for failing to recruit a single QB out of HS with an offer from top 75 program (and for some, with no FBS offers at all).

no,thank Nelson for punching/kicking the kid in head. Nelson was a talent.
But yes,kYLE Flood thanks for not Recruiting PJ Walker.SMH.
