Chris Laviano to transfer

I expect scorn. I just don't care.

It wasn't his fault he wasn't the right fit for this offense, just like it wasn't his fault that Flood stuck with him. He didn't always carry himself perfectly but he was a college kid in a really tough spot. Best of luck to him down the road, no reason he can't be successful in the non-power-5 or at the FCS level.

I wonder where he ends up. My guess is an FCS program where he can start right away or a rebuilding AAC, MAC, or CUSA school.

Good luck to Chris. He played hard and tried. Consider the number of OC's he played under. Here is his part of his statement. He shows a lot of class, and hope everyone here does too:

"I've had a great relationship with every coach, every strength coach that I've had at Rutgers, no matter how many. And there's been a ton. I've been here for a really long time, and I've seen a lot of different stuff play out and unfold throughout the years. Coach (Chris) Ash and Coach (Kenny) Parker are doing something that is ultimately going to lead to Rutgers football bringing great success.

"That's not to say that I try to hide from the fans or the fans are people who just blog and have no idea what they are talking about. There is some of that, but at the same time there is no rivalry between me and the fans. I've had multiple encounters, multiple conversations of tremendous support throughout my career of them black-and-white wanting to see Rutgers do well and win.

Unfortunately, the amount of coaching changes, and offenses and things that have happened to us in the last four years is nothing that any program wants. You want stability in the players, stability in the coaches, and that's not what we had. That's just the way it is.

I liked the kid. It's a tough position being the Rutgers starter at QB. It's been a school tradition for decades around here to dump on the starter and to falsely believe that there is a back up that is undeniably better and the answer to all of our woes. He handled it as well as any of the QB's who had to deal with that same situation before him

Stony Brook? As tough as I have been on him here due to his tweeting last year he's busted his ass and by most accounts done a great job off the field. Best of luck.

He took the high road, much to his credit. A bad fit in the new system. Hope he finds success wherever he ends up.

Nineteen or so games of experience at Rutgers should bode well for him at his next stop. The comeback at Indiana will always be one of my favorite games. Good luck and thanks for representing scarlet on the field of play.

Classy kid and good job so far for all of the classy replies except for Chip who is always an A$$hole so no problem with his reply.

He is a kid who can step into a pro style Offense, or even a read option where his team is not over matched like we have been in many games and do a nice job given his experience and high Football IQ.

Best of Luck Chris. I appreciate all that you did for RU.

I respect Laviano's effort a lot. He was in an unwinnable situation, especially after the system changed. Lots of people, myself included, wanted to see others play at times. Frankly, I thought sitting him during a couple of his tougher games was a missed opportunity to COACH him and get him to relax. I remember the MD game last year when he got blown up, kid went right back in; no doubt he could take a hit. I WAS pissed that Flood didn't let the trainers get a good look at him, because that was a SHOT.

Always loyal to RU, I wish him well, and hope he gets a chance to play out the rest of his college career.

I wish him luck for the future. Would his scholly and HR's need to be used prior to signing day so as to not count against the 25 cap?

Thanks, Chris, for a great effort and for being a class act in a challenging situation.

He's from Long Island so maybe Stony Brook?
I missed that school. Looking at their roster they have a couple of 2nd year QBs and a 1st year QB. He should be able to step in as a 5th year senior while mentoring the younger QBs.

Difficult situation at RU for sure. Good Luck to him and much success.

Very impressive. It's difficult for one to speak so openly and candidly for 11 straight minutes and still come off as completely classy.

This kid is gonna be just fine in life. Best of luck Chris and thanks.

The strange case of Chris Laviano - more than any QB that I can recall, he is perplexing & exasperating -
- when he has resources & a clear skill set advantage & not in peril - he seems to excel (possibly plays 50% beyond his "normal?)
- but when he does not have the edge & the opponent is overpowering, he ends up looking like he is only at 50% of what he could be normally expected to do.

Always wanted to see - one - just one- game where the the post game analysis was - "on paper RU was no match - but Laviano was lights-out, just on fire and played the game of his life..and won it for RU." maybe there were one or two where he came close (but not close enough) and the win was not there - or maybe that game is yet to come - but if it is - it will be in a different uniform.

Don't know where he will end up - but would seem that, with just one year to play, the ideal move is to find a strong team in a more modest conference in great need of a QB to support a star running back & a fist full of talented receivers - but even more important - at a school where he is going to pick up credentials & connections that will prove to be highly valuable in the 'beyond football' career that he chooses to pursue.

Had a decent debut in relief at Nebraska . His best moment was Indiana in 2015. Most memorable moments were there 4th down spike against Msu and the mocking of fans against Maryland . Took a lot of grief on this board the last 2 seasons. Good luck to Laviano.
