Today in first half when we once again forced post feeds into Cliff the offense was stagnant, and it resulted in poor shots by Cliff. Not sure why we continue to insist on Cliffs post game, against a good defender or bigger body, he struggles. He often catches too far off the block and is indecisive resulting in a bad shot or turnover.

Cliff is a better high pick and roll player; Woolfork played the high pick and roll game and it resulted in rebound baskets for him. Thats how Cliff should be used. Plus our offense as a whole looked better with guards involved and creating.

I agree.
Feeding Cliff is a no go imo.
Dishes off penetration and allowing him to be in position for rebounds and put backs is best

Cliff is actually not great as a roller. I wish would would utilize him in some short rolls and let him operate from the free throw line facing up.

Would seem to utilize his strengths

He made one nice jump hook. Nice touch. That was it other than dunks

You can just run one set. Feeding Cliff accomplishes a few things. 1) it frees up guys for open shots. 2) it gets Cliff active and into the game. It was a tough match up today and while feeding Cliff wasn’t super successful, it forces the defense to shift and double. Today Simpson, Paul and Spencer worked well together. Part of the reason why they were successful was because Cliff drew attention from the defense.

Agree… especially when teams are quickly doubling him which too often results in a turnover. Ideally, we should be able to take advantage of the double teams. But the execution has been poor… Something I think Cliff needs to work on. Against certain teams and low post defenders who decide not to double, Cliff can certainly be effective.

Cliff lacks both the footwork and basic post moves to run any sort of offense through him in the post. It’s a turnover 90% of the time he gets it with his back to the basket.

He’s gotta receive the ball deeper. Work with a much wider stance. Develop some moves with shoulder and head fakes to get defender off balance. Get his footwork right so his angles are much better when making his move

It’s been mind boggling how much they’ve been feeding him in the post, especially the past month.

Not only did we did it too much, he’s catching it way too far out or they’re dumping it to him with 6-7 seconds left on the clock.

Luckily after Woolfolk had some good minutes and Cliff came back in during the 2nd half we got away from hammering Cliff in the post and back to the PnR.

NFW. I couldn't disagree more. The whole offense changed when we stopped forcing the ball to him. The oNLY post shot he made was early in the 2nd half when he quickly turned and shot the short hook.

Ru has to watch the 1st half and what Michigan did to get Dickinson the ball super deep in the low post.

We look like a 4th grade offense with no imagination. If cliff doesn't have 1 foot in the paint, we should not be throwing the ball into him. Period. Probably a 20% shooter on shots over 1 foot.

As noted previously.. under 50% near the rim and that was weeks ago.

He can jump thru the roof but is weak playing from behind. Why we are not fronting ty he other bigs and letting them post so deep I do not get.

Didn’t have a lot of success posting up but Cliff made his presence felt on the offensive glass today. And he was HUGE on the defensive end.

That's his game! His hops, length, and quickness are his advantages. Putbacks at the rim. Not posting up 7-10 away throwing up short hooks.
I'd rather see him face up and shoot.

Agree to disagree. With no post presence, it’s hard to find open shoots. Not suggesting Cliff should take bad shots but they need to post him up and force the defense to move. It has be part of the offense.

But the defense doesn't move because Cliff just holds the ball and NEVER passes back out of it (quickly). As Roby said today he just waits too long to make a move (and when he was fast he got the short hook), If he played a more traditional in/out game I would completely agree.

It is amazing how often he hits the front of the rim. The ball has no chance to go in if it doesn't get over the front rim.
