He brought in Mulcahy with five minutes left when Mulcahy had done nothing the whole game. Mulcahy dribbling and dribbling with no basket. It was all downhill from there.

yes...not ready for this spot yet....quite frankly we were rolling with Young, so why wouldnt you have him handle the ball, obviously it was a play designed that we have no idea how it would work but something was supposed to happen that didnt. Its likely that Myles would have had a slam if it was executed properly but Mulcahy needed to bail out when it was apparent that wasnt going to work...it was a huge missed opportunity..3 straight horrible possessions

It just wasn’t Paul’s game today, which is why I had a problem putting him in that spot.

He played Mulcahy way too much in that game he is just not ready for this he slows the whole offense down every time he comes in the game

Two moments killed us at the end. First Mulcahy kept dribbling the ball as if he didn't know where he wanted to go with it, which is strange because he's usually the best on the team even as a freshman to distribute the ball. I don't know if he had a brain fart there or what. Secondly, Johnson's fourth foul in that moment killed us and our opportunity to score and put the pressure right back on Illinois.

Sadly, Johnson was out of sorts all game because he got into foul trouble and never recovered. BTW, that's also why Illinois had so many offensive rebounds---Johnson was out so long the Illinois got too many second chance shots. As it turned out, all they needed was one or two and that's the game.

Mulcahy needs to play when Johnson is on the floor at this point in his career. He's a liability right now against better competition. This will improve over time obviously.

I'm sure watching his shot get pinned against the backboard is also a mild deterrent from shooting and that happened the one time he actually took a shot in the 2nd half.

We lost in the last minute by 3 points at their place. Yes moral victories suck but we are on a major trajectory forward. .I am staying calm. So should you.

I thought it was strange he was written up play iso out of time out with like minute left. I get it plan was for him to try and dump to Myles, but it wasn't there

Anyone blaming Myles for the 4th foul needs to put away the keyboard
Who's blaming Myles? That was a foul btw. It hurt us at an inopportune moment, just like Mulcahy, who confoundedly kept dribbling the ball with no place to go which I found puzzling because Mulcahy is usually so proficient there.

That’s the exact play. Yes.

Do we get upset when Mulcahy keeps dribble alive and then finds someone for a layup? Maybe it is possible people werent moving off the ball.

we were on offense and Mulcahy after a couple nice defensive plays was just as bad later
As good as Paul is, which I believe he needs to shoot more midrange jump shots and not look to distribute, for the first time this year, he looked like a freshman when he couldn't find Myles and kept dribbling the ball because Illinois bottled Myles up.

Jacob should be handling...Caleb should have been in. I get why Paul was in, we were going to Myles or likely someone cutting to the hoop for any easy basket. Obviously it didnt pan out

Sorry ...Caleb should not have been in

He was getting out muscled on the perimeter in the last 6 minutes and that mid-Match was big reason why Illinois got better looks against us in the last 6 minutes

It should have been

Young
Mathis
Yeboah
Harper
Johnson

But he didn't there. For the first time this season Paul got a bit flustered. Hopefully this is a learning experience he'll need later in the season.

2 way street....were guys moving off the ball?
Hey, Mister Contrarian you can't have it both ways man. I love Mulcahy, but when his first look was taken away there he panicked. That's okay. He's going to learn from it. How do you know if guys weren't moving there? What's that? Oh yeah, you don't know. You just want to argue to argue.

Give credit to IL. They had a plan for him. Plus the size to matchup. He’ll bounce back.

If guys were making a cut I know Paul would make the pass.
Again, how do you know they weren't making a cut? I saw one guy cutting, but was cutoff and at that moment, Illinois did a good job of bottling up the paint.

don't make me rewatch!
I'm not. But if you're going to be Mr. Contrarian just to be Mr. Contrarian I'm going to call you on it. I played the game on a high level and I coached as well. Paul is a great young player, and he will learn from it. That is all.
